Besito Mexican - West Hartford - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I base my overall positive rating on my three visits to the restaurant. The last was a bit of a disappointment, however. First of all, there were no specials to choose from, which was surprising given that the menu is not that extensive. The entrees were good, but the accompaniments were mediocre.
When it was time for dessert we had neither a menu nor a platter from which to choose our selection - only the verbal descriptions given by our waitress. And knowing what the desserts looked like would have certainly changed our choices. The wait staff was polite but seemed eager to be rid of us, despite the fact that the place wasn't very busy. As for the ambience, we did go a little early for dinner, but they could have dimmed the lights. It was lit up like a cafeteria.
As I said, i have had better experiences there and I'm sure I will try it again. I don't think I'll bring friends next time though as the experience was a bit of an embarrassment after I talked the place up.
I was very impressed with everything. The host was very professional, the wait staff was very knowledgeable. We were able to take our time and chat without being pressured to order and the food was excellent.
This is definitely on my list of frequent haunts.
Waiter was obviously preoccupied with a larger table and had to call other hosts over several times for basic needs. Food was very good as usual, steak was hard to portion for the tacos. Brought out bananas and avocados for children which was very nice. Repeatedly asked for items such as a line which were never received
It was a great evening. They accommodated my reservation request for outdoor seating and it was perfect. I was able to treat my parents to a lovely meal out on their patio. They were both impressed with the
Food and drinks and both said they would return, which is a success in my book. The food looked great and tasted great. We all cleared out plates.
Besitos was even kind enough to compliment us with a lovey trea leches and churros (amazing!).
It was a great relaxing experience and I would be happy to go back.
Unfortunately food was mediocre as was service. Have dined in past with better experience. Enchiladas bland. Main course showed up as appetizers were being cleared. No apologies. Waitress was talking with co-workers several minutes before we could attract attention.
We have always enjoyed Besito , great atmosphere and good service . This time though the food wasn't up to their normal standards , my short ribs were very dry and my wife's salmon was over cooked . It was Cinco de Mayo and it was very busy but still a little disappointed.
Food at Besito is always excellent. But the bar service was SLOW. Yes its Cinco de Mayo, but being a Mexican restaurant, they should be able to plan for a busy night. We ordered food and 3 Coronas at the same time, and we got the food first. Then the bus person wouldnt allow me to keep my beer glass, saying I will get a fresh one. You guessed it, I did not. Overall nice evening, but when you get charged such a premium price for liquor it is annoying to have such terrible service.
When making my reservation several days in advance, I indicated that we were celebrating a significant birthday and requested a booth. Open Table showed availability for a party of 4 at all times throughout the evening, so accommodating a request for a booth seemed reasonable.
We arrived 5 minutes prior to our 7pm reservation and checked in with the 2 hostesses on duty. The restaurant was no more than half full and that there were 5 open booths - 3 seating 4 patrons, the other 2 seating more. Instead of being offered a booth for 4, the hostess brought us to a table. When I asked to be seated at the booth for 4 right next to the table, indicating that I had requested a booth in the reservation I made on Open Table several days before, she told me "we try to accommodate requests, but tonight, this is your table, not the booth." When I told her about my request and our celebration, she was unwavering. I had to say that I would like to speak with a manager regarding our seating before she contacted the other hostess, and then agreed to seat us at one of the 5 empty booths. A very unpleasant start to our celebration.
We ordered the signature house drinks, 2 pomegranate Petron margaritas and 2 signature mojitos. The margaritas tasted like berry flavored water and had no trace of tequila. A real disapointment for $12 per drink! The mojitos also lacked flavor and were very light on the rum.
We ordered the spicy version of their "signature" table side prepared guacamole - it was very bland (I can't imagine what the mild version would taste like) and very dry - we watched the preparation and no fresh limes or lime juice was used. The complimentary salsa was also very bland and the portion was very small for 4 people.
The entrees and the dessert and coffee were very good as was the service provided by the wait staff. The decor is lovely.
From photos I've seen I was expecting the ambience to be quieter. There was Mexican party music playing quite loudly similar to any other Mexican restaurant. On top of that our appetizer was undercooked and our entree orders were incorrect. The servers were able to correct both issues very quickly.
My husband and I love Besito! We always have a great dining experience. Food is fabulous and unique, both the nightly specials as well as from the menu. Last night I had the skirt steak and blue cheese enchilada special which was outstanding! Service is equally as Impressive as the food. What truly puts Besito above other restaurants is the manager Bruce who is extremely welcoming and accommodating!
Great time meeting friends after work for a drink! Table side guacamole was perfectly made! Tacos Asada and Flautas were delic and perfect for sharing! Our server Adrienne was wonderful! She made great suggestions and we went with the tequila mojitos and the apps she suggested too! Our glasses were always filled and we did not feel rushed at all! Great experience overall!
