The service was fantastic and the food was perfect from drinks through dessert.
Went here for a Friday night date. Once we walked in, the ambiance felt a bit off. The server was nice and the food was good but extremely unfulfilling. We left still hungry and having to buy snacks at the grocery store. I think this place has a lot of potential but it felt like there is just something missing.
We had company from out of town and chose Besaw’s as a specie treat. Truly enjoyed everything
We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff made sure everything was lovely. They bought us drinks while we waited for our table and that really set the tone for the entire evening. Our food was delicious the ambiance delightful.
This was our second year in a row that we went to Besaw's for Thanksgiving. The environment is always uplifting and positive. The food is never a disappointment and the drinks have the perfect balance of alcohol and other ingredients. I have a gluten allergy and they always accommodate my needs and the fear of getting sick is removed from thought. Thank you Besaw's for being open and taking care of all of your patrons on Thanksgiving. Cheers, Shawn and Dom
There were four of us and we had wonderful dinners. It was a Saturday night, and there were very few people there which was puzzling. The cost is a little high for the amount of food you get, but it is still very tasty. I would recommend it as a romantic or quiet spot to have a special dinner.
Nice atmosphere and staff. Our group ordered the rockfish (excellent) duck confit (pretty good, this was a gluten free and dairy free version of the dish) and I ordered the mushroom lasagna, which was disappointing. The greens were bitter and lasagna was grainy. For 23 dollars, I was disappointed
Extremely inattentive and slow service for not being busy. Seared tuna was okay. Burger was good. Brisket was decent, but almost half the serving was fat.
Overall, prices seemed high for the quality of food and we felt forgotten for most of the meal. Lackluster and missing that charm we’ve experienced in the past.
A few years ago I dined at the old location, and had been thinking about that meal since. inrecommend it to everyone I know going to Portland (I’m from Vancouver, Canada). On this return trip, we _had_ to make time for Besaw’s. Jenny made our night into a very memorable experience, with her care and her recommendations. The rockfish, and mushroom lasagna were simply decadent, and the root beer old fashioned made the perfect liquid dessert. Thank you!
I was quite upset when the staff at Bee Saw's did nothing for my birthday. My husband has never mentioned to a restaurant before that it was my birthday. The one time he makes a special effort to write it down in Open Table that we are going out to dinner because it is his wife's birthday, and there was no acknowledgement. Do you think he will waste his time again to mention my birthday? I don't think so.
Lots of hype for this restaurant and sometimes it is so busy, but honestly it’s just not that good.
Everything was excellent (food, service, etc.0 except I do not understand why some (so many) restaurants are compelled to play loud music. It makes it difficult to hear others at your table and to have a conversation without yelling. At Besaw's, it was rap music! So not relaxing, just annoying. I asked them to turn the music down (don't think they did) and to be moved to another quieter place in the restaurant.
Just flew in from the Midwest... lovely evening to start our stay in Portland! The staff were great, food excellent and company superb!
i thought it was misleading the happy hour could only be had at the bar top, i thought the food was delicious but a bit over priced. my main course wasnt but we got a cheese app and meat app and they were $15 and very little food for the price. our waitress was wonderful.
First time at the “new” location for dinner. Food and service were great, and the music was fun—some funk streaming channel. Only negative was a sense of being mildly rushed through the appetizer and first course. Fairly expensive, so definitely look to it again for another celebration event.
They have recreated the old Besaw's with a modern touch. Everything was perfect from the time we walked in the door until exit. The hostess was accommodating in seating us at a table conducive for a business meeting, the waitress was extremely professional and everything from the bar and kitchen was prepared to perfection.
Best brunch in Portland in my opinion. Such interesting elevated food with special twists that make it luscious and satisfying. The interior is beautiful and matches the food. Service is perfect.
Meeting friends for a great night together
The restaurant was empty for 7:30 on a Saturday night. There was 80s music blaring over our table, but our server graciously turned it down when asked. The food was fine but not memorable.
I miss the old Besaw's. Obviously their focus has turned more to dinner than their previous specialty of breakfast/lunch. I still haven't had an amazing breakfast at this old Portland favorite and miss some of the items on their old menu, which makes me sad. But this was the first time trying their dinner, which was much better experience than brunch. Some items were great, some were ok, but all were cooked well which can't be said for the brunch. Love Solo Club next door. And will come back again for dinner.
Lovely space and not busy. As anyone knows from their brunch crowd, this place always draws a long line in the morning. Dinner and happy hour are an undiscovered gem!
I wouldn’t order anything but a burger if I went here again. The scallops tasted old and the hush puppies were raw inside, looked like brown rocks.
And they were the most expensive thing on the menu. Not impressed!
The drinks from the bar were good!
The service and food were excellent. As a non alcohol drinker I appreciated the mocktail options. I love it when my drink choices include more than soda or lemonade.
It was very nice they change up the menu a lot and have some real tasty options.
Small, nicely selected menu. Eclectic wine list, had a wine we had never had before. Lots of fun.
Besaw's it our "go to" special place, so we go there often. The servers are the best The food is good, although the cuts of meat (I had steak, my SO had lamb) was a bit tough/gristly,but the appetizers are fabulous.
Loved the pork shoulder, but the turnips were cold. The hangar steak was rather chewy, but the creamed greens with bread crumbs and carmelized onions that came with it made the dinner worthwhile. Loved them. I’m sorry to say that the Walla Walla onion rings are cut so smalll - like shoestrings - that they lose the great onion flavor. We will give it another go because we enjoyed the patio dining.
Can't go wrong with brunch at Besaw. The booth for 6 is really amazing -- so easy to talk and comfortable!
Our meals took forever to arrive— and when they did the lamb was raw and the pork was cold and the items did not go well together— very disappointed
Lots of other restaurants in the area were very crowded but we were able to enjoy our dinner there with no wait. The seasonal pizza was amazing and the standard menu items were all delicious, as always!
Disappointed with Besaw's. The cheese platter was more of a fruit and cheese platter. I requested a substitution of potatoes instead of the turnips and still received the turnips. My friend had the virgin margarita and it was like orange juice. Finally, it was rather warm in the restaurant. Either the air conditioning was broken or they didn't bother turning it on.
As always great food and great service attitude. Been many times at new and old. Food service was extremely sloooowwwww. Worst I've ever experienced at your restaurant. Will definitely come back again but this was not your best day.
It was really the worst service I have had in over twenty years in a restaurant. I even emailed Besaws privately and let them know. I let them know I sent it to them directly because as a business owner I know that I would not want it on Yelp or Google and I was respecting. But no one ever bothered to respond to the email. So oh well. Hopefully they get it together over there.
Great menu, food was excellent...and don’t pass us the rolls with honey butter!
This was our first visit, and we were thoroughly impressed with the level of service we received! The food was absolutely amazing and the overall experience was superb! We will definitely be going back in the near future!
Every month we get together with a friend for dinner. Good food, good conversation, etc. We've been doing this for over five years & I have to say that of all the great restaurants we've visited, Besaw's definitely ranks in the top five. The service was perfect, and the food was perfectly delicious. These are great people and they make the dining experience great as well. If I could give more than five stars, I would.
Besaws is a great reinvented neighborhood institution and it continues to be a good option with nicely seasoned, well-prepared food. Our concern was in the limited presence of vegetables on the menu, both as vegetarian options, but perhaps more so in the presence of vegetables as part of the main dishes. With four of us, including one vegetarian, we shared two main dishes and used sides to have more vegetables in our selection. The service and atmosphere were great.
We enjoyed the quiet of the restaurant, but we had early dinner and it wasn't busy. Would probably be noisier under other circumstances.
Chicken fabulous as usual...crab cake delicious...mac & cheese Spivey but creamy & tasty!
