We enjoyed the quiet of the restaurant, but we had early dinner and it wasn't busy. Would probably be noisier under other circumstances.
Chicken fabulous as usual...crab cake delicious...mac & cheese Spivey but creamy & tasty!
We had excellent service from friendly and appropriately attentive staff. Food was disappointing. One dish over salted (pasta), one meh (burger) and nothing but the side of greens was hot. Server gets bonus points for quickly addressing the only item we complained about which was cold onion rings. I think the timing on our order just got messed up somehow. We’ve had better meals here in the past, so won’t let this experience deter us from a return in the future.
I do not like carrot juice, but the master cleanse is one of the best cocktails I have ever had! I have been to Besaw’s for lunch and dinner. Never been disappointed.
Brought my wife for a Mother's Day dinner. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Not a large menu, but what they have is delicious.
The food was FANtastic. Best restaurant dinner meal I have had. Period. Wait service was wonderful- our waitress was lovely. Thank you for making my Birthday dinner amazing!
Celebrated a birthday with friends at Breakfast. Knowledgeable and friendly server. Great variety on the menu, plus they accommodated special requests. Highly recommend !!!
This is our favorite Portland restaurant, for many reasons. We've been Besaw's enthusiasts from the first time we ate there... even before they moved to the new, awesome, location! The service is wonderful and appropriately attentive, and the food ... OMG!!! Beyond delicious! Always creative too! One of our little "gifts back" is to bring our own wine (a very good wine ...), have a glass each, then make sure there's plenty left so we can thank them in a tangible, yummy way!
Josh was incredible. Super helpful and didn’t make us feel terrible for our health needs.
We're on vacation from Alabama, celebrating our wedding anniversary and wanted something affordable and homely. This place hit the spot. We got the fried chicken and meatloaf and both were outstanding. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food.
Delicious food, drinks, and great service!
Great food and service. The food arrived a bit too fast but that only allowed us more time to enjoy the rest of the menu.
Thank you for a lovely night out with our kids
We have had the brunch at Besaw's, which is excellent, and wanted to try out there dinner menu. Went during the 3 courses for $33 and had an excellent meal. Service was prompt and friendly. Will go back another time.
This was my first trip to the new location. It’s not the restaurant I remember. The food was expensive and mediocre. Not worth the money. I won’t be back. There are so many good restaurants in Portland these days. Besaw’s needs to take it up a notch.
This food hits you over the head. Not at all subtle. Was not impressed by the wine server as he did not know what grapes were included in the deep dark rose wine that was served as part of the wine pairing with the menu. Not my cup of tea. Would go back for a burger and onion rings, which looked good if asked to by a friend. Nothing to really complain about otherwise.
Food, ambiance, and the comfort of the booth was all amazing. Only gripe was that the food seemed just a tad over seasoned on all dishes, otherwise it was great!
Went for Portland Dining Month. Wonderful food! I've heard it's more of a brunch place but dinner was absolutely tasty. Thanks so much for making my Mom's birthday so great!
The food was really good but the kitchen was slammed. We waited over an hour for our main courses. We were under a bit of a time crunch and told our waiter about 45 min out that we needed to be aware of the time and get out by 7:15. Our reservation was at 6 and we had a show to get to by 8. Should have been plenty of time. We made it but just barely and we had to eat / drink fast which is never ideal.
We’ve been a few times for brunch, and have wanted to try it for dinner... it was wonderful.. the atmosphere in the evening is so nice and quiet compared to brunch time...:)
We had great service, cocktails and food.. 5 Star all the way... thanks Besaw’s
Fantastic, relaxed service staff, lovely and "genuine" atmosphere, despite being in a new building. The food was inventive, but not fussy or precious, perfectly prepared.
Wow, this was a super impressive find! My husband and I are from out of town and ate here before a Trailblazers game because it was close to our hotel. My husband had the beef cakes and I had the meatloaf and both were well above expectations. The staff was pleasant and accommodating and the ambience was charming and romantic. We loved the whole package!
First time here. Environment was good. Food was really good. Service was unimpressive. Our server rounding was unreliable, inattentive, and our drink orders & refill requests took way too long. Our drinks were empty for over 50% of our dining experience. Even after ordering, it took 15 minutes for the drink refills to be served. And with no apology or apparent awareness by the server of our perceptions and experience. Oh and I ordered one entree but the server ‘talked’ me out of it and pushed another dish at me. This was shady and a bit odd.
All in all... a good experience. Nothing to write home about, but just ‘good’ with opportunity to be better.
We went to Besaw's for Portland restaurant month and had a really good dinner. Loved the smoked salmon salad! The desert was also the bomb. Highly recommend it.
We have a women's group that meets here for lunch once a month. The wait staff is always happy to split the check (even if there are 8 of us)! The food is consistently good and the cocktails are creative and fun. Thanks Besaw's!
I had made a reservation for 4 on 03/12/2018 at 5pm. They called the day before to confirm the reservation at 5pm the following day. Both parties agreed to the date and time. We had gotten there early (4:30 pm) with doors wide open and people working in the hopes to be seated early. When we got in, the bartender informed us they close shop from 4-5pm to make the switch from lunch to dinner. Fine, I can live. They at five, they were still closed while they watched me tug on the door. 5:10, same story. We left and grabbed a pie from Escape from NEW YORK. Solid pizza at least, but not what we wanted when left home.
We had been to be Besaw’s for breakfast in the past but this was our first visit for dinner. We ranged in age from 12 to 70 so trying to please everyone wasn’t easy. We all had meals that were delicious and everyone was pleased. It was a great time
We enjoyed Besaw's so much. It followed a fantastic previous meal at Ava Gene's. Portland can match any city's restaurant scene. No question about it. We were in town for my birthday and chose some highly recommended places. None disappointed. Besaw's was wonderful and we certainly have it on the list for next time. Great comfort food with nods to various cuisines.
I do not like loud music in restaurants and don't understand the reason for thinking people have to be stimulated all the time.
Food was terrific and I like the architecture.
Meat loaf dish was very tasty.
Great food, friendly staff and they were very kid friendly to my 2 year old.
Besaw's was our first "Portland Dining Month" choice this year and we were so pleased with our experience. Service was impeccable but not intrusive. The food was lovely from the smoked trout salad to start (bits of pickled red onion, hazelnuts and a creamy dressing) to beef cheeks in a rich sauce over asparagus to a lovely slice of cake for dessert. Care was taken with taste as well as presentation and even the dishes on which the food is served are a nice aesthetic experience. The server was able to suggest a good choice of wine to accompany our three course meal and told us they are contemplating a flight of wines to accompany the three-course dinner. I think that would be a great idea! We ate early (6 pm) since we had theater tickets for 7:30 and while it was on the quiet side at this early hour, we noticed on our way back after the theater that the place was full. I enjoyed seeing the beautiful bar and various seating areas with people coming and going - definitely a lovely spot for a night of good food and excellent service at a very reasonable price!
Food at dinner okay, nothing outstanding, think their best gig is breakfast. So tired of restaurants trying to be so trendy serving odd and different items, stick to what you are good at and maybe good old American food and various other nationalities, like Italian, etc. are fine for the most part.
Great experience! We were here for Valentine’s Day as a family. Everyone was so nice to our children. The manager was so sweet and we adored our server. Wonderful evening!
Very good food and service.
We will return!!
I just love Besaw's for Sunday breakfast and go often. But our Valentine's Day dinner was over the top delicious.
I had two of their V-day specials. The Sunchoke and Crab Soup was a treat with every bite. I was so sad to take my last spoonful. Rich flavors and a lovely smooth taste made it an incredible starter. Then I had the Scallops. Of course, if scallops are on the menu, I will order them. But these scallops were the perfect texture and just the right amount of this rich-tasting treat. It came on some polenta and with a frisee salad. The meal was light while the soup was rich. A perfect combination.
My husband had the meatloaf, a Besaw's standard. I had a taste: it rivals mine. Delish. The staff was attentive but not overbearing. The service was impeccable.
I will definitely be back for dinner again.
Food was great, said everyone in our party. It wasn’t a busy night, but service seemed a little slow. I would still return in spite of that.
Great as always. The beef cheeks were amazing and the Walla Walla onion rings awesome.
Wow! Had always heard of Besaws, so decide to give them a try. Glad I did because it was an amazing evening. The food was fabulous and our waitress Jenny was very attentive and a delight to talk to. Enjoyed that the restaurant, although full, was very quiet and we had no issues conversing at the table. Can not recommend this place enough and I look forward to my next visit.
Nice experience. Felt the fish portion could have been bigger or served with something else. I added carrots which were delicious. Others had fried chicken and loved it.
