Berret's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We arrived before our reservation and yet seated promptly. We asked for a gluten-free menu and delighted with the many GF options. Our server went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable, well served and everything provided. Going back this Friday!!!
After spending an afternoon tasting the wines in the tasting room capped off a great day at the Winery with Dinner at the Café . Service was friendly , attentive without being over the top! The menu was creative from the Oysters which had great flavor but were a little heavy on the breading, Beef Wellington seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection as was the Rack of Lamb. Overall dinner was we wanted it to be an early Valentine special experience definitely would return
Was curious when looking to make a reservation...Berret's was the only place we were able to reserve...all the other restaurants were booked for the night. Sadly, we now know why. Our food was simply bad. The She Crab soup was unrecognizable. The flounder special was tasteless...and the grilled shrimp had absolutely no flavor and were slightly undercooked...I couldn't even eat them. Wish I could give a better review...but we will never be returning.
Truly a Williamsburg jewel. I literally go there every time I’m in Williamsburg. Sometimes just for the happy hour and mussels. Sometimes for lunch and sometimes for dinner. The seafood is fresh and there are non seafood options too. Always great !!!! with a friendly staff. The outside patio is a great place to sit and people-watch when the weather is nice.
We wanted fresh seafood but all that was available was a bunch of fried options. Scallops and salmon were not fried but they were not memorable. Service was great. Husband had the flight of bourbon which was good. Outside patio looked nice when weather is warm. Too many others to try in Williamsburg. Will not return.
Berrets is continuing a "25 year tradition" by giving a coupon for $15 off which it started as a cooperative effort with some parents in our town who sold coupon books to make college scholarships happen for students at Lafayette High School. That was back when we only had 1 high school! I appreciate Brian Maloney and his cheerful staff.
4 of us had dinner, with 1 being an interview candidate and 2 dining at Berret’s for the first time. All loved our meals and service, and get it was the perfect place for our meet-up. While there was a large group seated next to us, there was no noise level issue, and in fact the well-minded kids in the group provided joyful entertainment.
The temperature in the restaurant was rather chilly. Many customers were wearing their coats
while dining. We were celebrating a birthday and even though the waiter was aware and acknowledged the same, we felt rushed. The food was very good but we were not impressed with the carrot cake.
Calamari and oysters were great. Entrees were disappointing. Had tuna with fried crabcake. Sauce was pasty, thick and no flavor. Too many items fried. Catfish and scallops in parchment not overly flavorful.
Our server was pleasant. Room was cool. They were getting ready to close for a week to do a facelift.
We celebrated New Year's Eve in 2017. Two of us enjoyed the Blue Plate special, which included a bowl of she-crab soup. The meal was excellent and a great value. The other members of the party enjoyed their Filets and seafood medley. Everyone had a great time. And our waitress was knowledgeable and fun. This was our 2nd New Year in a row at Berrets, and we will be shooting for 3. Make reservations well in advance for special occasions.
On a busy New Year's Eve, we were seated on time, and there was no delay in any of our service. We both had seafood dishes and were delighted. The macadamia nut mahi mahi was superb. It was a perfectly cooked and generous piece of very fresh fish. My wife had the Red White and Blue (salmon, scallops and crab cake) and was also very pleased. The star at this restaurant is the food, and it's reasonably priced. Plus, the location, just off Mechants Square provides for a nice stroll after dinner.
We first dined at Berret's about 25-years ago and have been back twice since then. It's a 2.5-hour drive from our home in the VA. foothills but their food and quality service makes it our go to spot for special occasions. Just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary there last week. No need to say more except their fried shrimp is amazing. Great seafood experience. Reservations suggested.
Berret's is always our goto restaurant when company arrives because we know everyone will be pleased with their meal. Today was no exception. All 3 of our out of town guests were thrilled with their lunch. The blue plate special is hard not to please! The oysters were wonderful!
Thanks Berret's for being such a wonderful place to eat, no matter what time of year it is.
Food was very uninspiring. Came out too fast so was probably frozen and went right to microwave. Sat us in a booth directly across from hallway to kitchen and next to glass and ice station so it was cold and very noisy w/servers walking in and out of kitchen and getting ice. Was very disappointed in entire experience.
