Berret's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The temperature in the restaurant was rather chilly. Many customers were wearing their coats
while dining. We were celebrating a birthday and even though the waiter was aware and acknowledged the same, we felt rushed. The food was very good but we were not impressed with the carrot cake.
Calamari and oysters were great. Entrees were disappointing. Had tuna with fried crabcake. Sauce was pasty, thick and no flavor. Too many items fried. Catfish and scallops in parchment not overly flavorful.
Our server was pleasant. Room was cool. They were getting ready to close for a week to do a facelift.
We celebrated New Year's Eve in 2017. Two of us enjoyed the Blue Plate special, which included a bowl of she-crab soup. The meal was excellent and a great value. The other members of the party enjoyed their Filets and seafood medley. Everyone had a great time. And our waitress was knowledgeable and fun. This was our 2nd New Year in a row at Berrets, and we will be shooting for 3. Make reservations well in advance for special occasions.
On a busy New Year's Eve, we were seated on time, and there was no delay in any of our service. We both had seafood dishes and were delighted. The macadamia nut mahi mahi was superb. It was a perfectly cooked and generous piece of very fresh fish. My wife had the Red White and Blue (salmon, scallops and crab cake) and was also very pleased. The star at this restaurant is the food, and it's reasonably priced. Plus, the location, just off Mechants Square provides for a nice stroll after dinner.
We first dined at Berret's about 25-years ago and have been back twice since then. It's a 2.5-hour drive from our home in the VA. foothills but their food and quality service makes it our go to spot for special occasions. Just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary there last week. No need to say more except their fried shrimp is amazing. Great seafood experience. Reservations suggested.
Berret's is always our goto restaurant when company arrives because we know everyone will be pleased with their meal. Today was no exception. All 3 of our out of town guests were thrilled with their lunch. The blue plate special is hard not to please! The oysters were wonderful!
Thanks Berret's for being such a wonderful place to eat, no matter what time of year it is.
Food was very uninspiring. Came out too fast so was probably frozen and went right to microwave. Sat us in a booth directly across from hallway to kitchen and next to glass and ice station so it was cold and very noisy w/servers walking in and out of kitchen and getting ice. Was very disappointed in entire experience.
No visit to Williamsburg would be complete without dining at Berret’s. It is clearly one of the best restaurants in town. Food, service, and ambiance are top notch. It is a bit pricey, but well worth the splurge. Soups, hot crab dip, parchment seafood, and skillet cobblers are divine.
Another fabulous experience at Berret's. It just doesn't get any better than this. Their very lightly-breaded calamari is the best we've had anywhere and to top it off they serve rings as well as tentacles in their ample portions as well as two dipping sauces, a superb remoulade and their signature soy ginger sauce. We followed that up with some wonderful oysters Rockefeller, then their crab cakes with goat cheese bacon grits and fresh asparagus for me, baked brie in puff pastry with shrimp and a pear and fig chutney for hubby. Couple this with perfect service from our delightful server Mike (whose wine advice was spot on), a charming hostess, and a warm greeting from the manager and you have the reason this is our absolute favorite restaurant. It really is what dining out is all about.
Easy walking distance from the historic district, and lovely seafood. The parchment-wrapped special of the day was delicious, and perfectly cooked. The blue plate had a startling variety of seafood, each one delicious and decadent. We particularly enjoyed the oyster appetizer special for happy hour, which allowed us to have roasted oysters as well as raw. Service was prompt, and we had a very enjoyable evening.
Always a favorite when I come to Williamsburg. Great location, right in the heart of things. The service and food are always great and prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend the Calamari and the raw oysters. Watch the Bloody Marys though, they’re very spicy!
Nice ambience and good food, accompanied by top notch service, make this a convenient meal choice for those in or visiting the Williamsburg area. Adjacent to a number of very nice shops and within short walking distance to the Colonial Williamsburg shuttle.
The occasion was our wedding anniversary. They provided a table by the fireplace. Our service was timely and efficient. We were served a special dessert. Also a small bottle of champagne noted with “Happy Anniversary.”
Having been to Berret’s many times since we were married, it still is a great place to go.
My family loves Berret's but on this occasion, things fell short.
Our waiter forgot a side order we had placed (with the food order for the table). In addition, my husband ordered an after dinner special coffee (amazing). When he finished the cup, we saw a hair in the mug. We had already paid for dinner but called our server over to let him know. He did apologize and told us he would let the bartender know and walked off. We we're a bit disappointed in that and the fact our table had a tab of $191 yet a hair still managed to sneak it's way into our drink.
We try to get to Berret's every year but may decide to venture to another spot for our annual first lunch of the trip next year...
