A GOOD MEAL IN A QUIET AND REFINED SETTING. THE EXPERIECES AT BERNARD'S HAVE ALWAYS BEEN POSITIVE.
Wonderful brunch on Fathers Day. Lobster bisque was excellent. Salmon entree as well. Nice deserts. Great piano music in the background. Wonderful civilized experience in this fast paced world.
Absolutely fantastic brunch across the board. Food, service and ambience were all equally superb. Expensive but well worth the occasional splurge.
We had table next to kitchen hall/piano and were generally ignored by the wait staff -- we felt invisible. Scallop appetizer was cool when served. Entrees were excellent,
A slice of class. Cooking and service are a profession and art.
I had to go to Ridgefield with my son and booked for lunch after reading reviews. It was better than we expected. Amazing service and delicious food. Waitress went extra mile to serve us and even with my small kids everyone was super nice and caring. Nico did am AMAZING job helping us to pick the right wine. He knows everything about it and we ended up having 2 bottles. Loved the place and going back for sure!
Quiet night at Bernard's, but my wife and I were very happy and able to talk at a good decibel level. Service was very friendly, but professional; dinner high quality...food well prepared and served in an enticing manner. Ambiance was quiet (they purposely keep a large group in a separate room) and quite romantic atmosphere! It has become our "go to" restaurant!
Bernard's is always good. The food is great French style "comfort food". This last time the service was its usual outstanding. After being there many times, I have to admit the duck I had was tough and the sping like rolls were burned. That just tells me that something was wrong in the kitchen that night. That's not the usual situation. I plan on going back again and again.
Fantastic service and attention to detail.
Overall pleasant experience for my Daughters Graduation Ceremony luncheon. Only complaint would be demeanor of our waitress. Not very friendly or informative. Food was excellent but long wait for dessert.
Impeccable, yet genuinely friendly, warm service! Great piano playing during dinner added to the evening - wish we lived closer! Impressive wine list too.
we had the pleasure of dining here 3 times lately. The tasting menu with wine was amazing. Having a regular dinner was superb also. Servers, Chris who is fantastic and Tito who is wonderful, made our dining experience altogether great. It is a lovely, quiet place with extraordinary food and wine and I wished I lived nearer than the 2 hr. drive or we'd be there much more often.
A lovely dinner indeed
Softshell Crabs were to die for
Halibut main course excellent
And the crème brulee trio a great dessert to share.
All in all a wonderful experience.
Wish the piano player was there.
Bernard's never disappoints. A real restaurants for grown-ups. Excellent wine list.
Good selection of seasonal dishes. Very well prepared. Special wishes totally accepted. Very quit dining room. Service was outstanding. Very busy at around 6 pm . Much better at 7:30 or later. We have recommended this restaurant all ready to other people.
Our first experience was excellent. We will be back soon
A wonderful special occasion restaurant for us. When in town for a show at the Ridgefield Playhouse, Bernards is a must. Incredible wine list, attentive service, made a special request and the chef was excited to oblige!!
Outstanding food. Exceptional service. From start to finish we felt well cared for by everyone. Stella's experience.
Asked for a nice table for anniversary dinner; was seated next to cash resister and wait station, about the single least romantic spot in the entire establishment. Really?
If you love French inspired food-----this is the place to go. Service was very good and caring. We ate in the smaller room and it was medium quiet. No overdone laughs were heard.
The restaurant atmosphere and cuisine were delighful!
what an amazing tasting dinner we experienced. Our server Chris was just excellent in describing the many dishes we had; each a triumph. Each accompanying wine was also described in detail and was perfectly matched to the course. We had tried this restaurant once many years ago on a busy Sat. night with a much simpler menu. This time, a week night , was quiet and the menu was so much more than I recall before. It was one of our best dining moments ever. I would recommend anyone to try this but allow time as the courses are spaced apart so one can savor each in a relaxed way.
Excellent attention to gluten-free needs, outstanding food and service.
Mother's Day brunch. Very limited choices. Food was good. Price was $85 per. Online said $39.
Mother's Day. Very nice
All aspects of our experience was outstanding. Bernard's is a beautiful restaurant with wonderful ambience and congenial and attentive service. Food beautifully prepared and presented and chef's special and seasonal preparations were so original, such as the trio of foie gras and the bacon tasting plate. Desserts were a tasty finale to a five-star meal and dining experience.
We had a great time. The server was informed, friendly, and energetic. The warm olive rolls were wonderful. My husband loved them. I am gluten free and have a nut allergy. The chef went out of his way to make creative substitutions to menu dishes so they conformed to my needs.
My second time at Bernard's - I have a review posted from about mid-May 2015. I live in CA, not CT, so my opportunities to visit are limited. This was weekday lunch. The previous occasion was Sunday brunch. I remain very positive about Bernard's. Lovely traditional setting, diverse menu, a surprisingly well rounded wine list and attentive, non-intrusive service which I would call smooth without being self-consciously polished or refined (not that I object to those things in the right setting or occasion) . That said, we early on had a glitch. I ordered a gibson up to start. Our server LeAnn (possible misspelling alert) brought a gimlet. I pointed this out to her, she appropriately apologized and offered to replace it. Since I can't remember having a gimlet and it looked good, I decided to keep it. Very nice - so a happy accident. I had longnecks and the hanger steak - both excellent. I don't recall what my two companions had. Last thing - we were joined at about 3 pm for a glass of wine by an old family friend whom I had not seen in 17 years. It was time for a shift change, so LeAnn excused herself and introduced our new server Nico. Most of the work had been done, so not much for Nico to do for us. We did say to Nico that if we were getting in the way of their transition to dinner service, we can take a polite hint that it's time to go. Of course, he encouraged us to stay. Bottom line, I'm ready to go back to Bernard's and I'm hoping that would be within a year and certainly not more than 2 years.
Went for our 50th anniversary. Ambiance was spectacular--waitstaff was accommodating and friendly--food---can't say enough about the food--well prepared and promptly served. I would recommend this restaurant highly . Loved the piano player
It is one of the very few elegant restaurants left that has outstanding food, great service and you can have a table conversation. Lovely experience and celebration!
Bernard's is one of my favorite special occasion restaurants. Food is always top notch and very friendly and efficient service. Looking forward to next visit.
We went in the afternoon on Easter. It was a wonderful experience. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and the preparation of the food. We had the smoked salmon first which was a delicious and a great preparation. The Branzini in a motel sauce was the best I have ever had. Highly recommend this restaurant
Just excellent in every measurable aspect. One of our favorites in the area.
Perfect on all levels but one. This restaurant should have a Michelin star or two. From the maitre'd who warmly and professionally greets you to the friendly and gracious owner this place hits on all notes but one. The service is highly trained and knows the product they sell. The piano player plays at a great level just right for a pleasant night allowing for conversation without shouting. The amuse-bouche is a nice touch. The menu is amazing with so many choices. The chef is not just cooking food he is an artist. This place is a gem and a throwback. My only critique is the decor including color choice That is dated to the mid 1980s. A gem and must go restaurant.
Appetizers and main dishes were excellent, as usual, except for the rabbit which we sent back since it was over cooked and partially burnt. They were very quick and gracious with a substitute.
Cozy, lovely restaurant. Food is fine French cuisine, that being said, a very sophisticated palate is essential to really enjoy. We had a hard time with the menu and the food was not what we were expecting in terms of taste. It was a nice experience for a special occasion but were not overly enthused about the food.
Wonderful atmosphere. Very attentive wait staff. Food is excellent with wine pairings. This visit was with friends who had never been here before and they are wine connoisseurs. They gave their stamp of approval on this experience.
Anything is superlative... the team makes every visit special!
