This is an outstanding restaurant - great for a special occasion. The food is delicious, and it is prepared artfully as well. The wine choices are excellent, too. We had three people in our party ordering different meals, and we all thought the food was superb.

We went on a Saturday night, and there was a piano player who added to the wonderful ambiance.

Dinner for three (with wine and dessert) ran in the $200 range, so that is why I suggested that this is best for a special occasion, when you want great food to celebrate a special event.

One of our favorites for special nights out. We like it so much we got married in the wine bar upstairs! Traditional French menu with some interesting twists. Good wine and beverage list and very knowledgeable staff.

Wonderful atmosphere especially with the Jazz Masters show on Sunday. Food and service were excellent, on par with the best of NYC establishments. The Jazz is the icing on the cake.

Dined on a recent Saturday evening and food was exceptional. Excellent ambience with a piano player in the background who was fabulous. Service excellent as always.

Due to an event upstairs, the food was slightly delayed from the kitchen but alas no worries- all was great.

One of my favorite restaurants for fine dining - highly recommended.

My wife and I went here for my birthday. I am not a foodie, but if I was I would really be pleased with Bernard’s. Awesome food. Service was excellent (and I am very demanding). Piano music in the background made this a cozy, romantic getaway.

As usual, Bernard's does not disappoint. We almost always do the 7 course tasting. Everything is divine, and perfectly cooked. It's an elegant, proper but not stuffy atmosphere. Our favorite restaurant for special occasions. 5 stars!

Service was superb as was the food. Swordfish was like butter, surrounded by tiny bits of
veggies of all kinds. Everyone loved their choices, mostly vegetarian. The crabmeat stuffed
blossom was priceless and heavenly. The garden area was quiet and lovely. Dessert of
sorbets were fruity fresh and included fresh fruits. We couldn't have asked for more perfection
in every instance. Thank you Sarah and Bernard for making the farewell gathering so memorable.

Excellent Saturday evening dinner. Always a treat for a special occasion or a relaxing & classy night out. Only restaurant around that offers live piano yet doesn’t drown out dinner conversation. We’ve come here for years & will be continuing to do so.

Bernard's is the epitomy of fine dining, the food is delicious and complex. The service is excellent, friendly and efficient. The ambiance of the restaurant is elegant. EVERYTHING about this restaurant is superb. We had the tasting menu and each dish was delectable. Bernard is a 5 star chef with imagination and he has a commitment to prepare the best food beyond ones imagination. This is a great restaurant. Our family had a wonderful evening with great wine and food.

Bernard’s is one of our top 5 Connecticut restaurants. Service has always been impeccable, and the menu is outstanding. Food always impresses. A bit pricey, but just a bit, and since we keep coming back it’s clearly worth the extra few dollars.

Bernard's was incredible from the amuse-bouche compliments of the Chef to the appetizers of mussels/crab stuffed squash flowers/lobster bisque/scallops to the entrees of halibut/t-bone steak/lobster to the desserts of chocolate sampler/creme brulee trio/cheesecake with berries every bite was thoroughly enjoyed by our family dining out to celebrate our 25th anniversary.

This is the 3rd time we've been to Bernard's since it opened. We went for Mother's Day years ago when it first opened. Was there last Spring for an evening performance & dinner. It was good-we just ordered burgers & salads - a light meal. Decided to try it for Mother's Day. I thought the price fixe was $55/person when I made the reservations. That was the price for the brunch from 11-12:30 only (similar menu with more egg dishes). The dinner after 1:30 jumped up to $90/person! I didn't realize it til I looked at the menu before we left our house that morning. Drinks, tax & 20% gratuity (included) was extra. The restaurant was not full & we were placed in the back room, next to the kitchen. Service was slow. Food was ok. The amuse bouche (starter) was bland. The 3 of us ordered different things to try. The tuna tartar was good, lobster fricasse was good, ramp soup-ok. The entrees were good-Beef Wellington, chicken (nice crispy skin) & pork chop. We ended up bringing some of our entrees home as leftovers. Dessert trio (strawberry themed ?) was unremarkable.
We travel during holidays sometimes & I find, in general, that going out to restaurants for a holiday or special day like Mother's Day very disappointing these days.

Outstanding experience!!!!! Handicap friendly and helpful; absolutely delicious food; authentic French cuisine; three of four smallish rooms with live pianist. It was a truly great experience. It was expensive, but absolutely worth it.

Unique dining experience.

Bernard's is one of the few places in Fairfield County, CT where you can enjoy a fantastic dining experience.

Yes. There are many great restaurants in Fairfield County, serving great food, but, they are limited to the food. Don't get me wrong, I love great food, but when I dine out I want more than just food. I want an experience. I want great food, great service, attention to detail, a warm and friendly atmosphere. . .

Ambiance makes the meal, and Bernard's is the only place within many miles of Ridgfield that delivers on food, service and ambience.

***This is a restaurant that my wife and I have been to over 100 times, and I'm very "fussy". See my other reviews for proof.

This is only the second time in my life I have had the only occupied table in a restaurant. The other was fifty years ago, in Nikko, Japan in the off-season. This was a Sunday night in Ridgefield after a late afternoon music performance at Caramoor. The chef/owner wasn't in residence (why would he be?) and I felt the food's preparation was a notch below what it was the prior time, on a Saturday night. It was still excellent, but I think I'd prefer someplace with more people around. Very good wine from my region of France, the Haute Savoie, which should tell you that one of the attractions of this place is the carte des vins. Well-priced as well.

AMBIENCE WAS NICE FOOD JUST OK. NOT REALLY IMPRESSED WITH SERVICE.
WAITER NEEDED MORE TRAINING TO DETAILS AND SPECIFICS ON MENU.
AT THE PRICES THEY ARE CHARGING LET'S GET THE SPARK NEEDED TO REV THINGS UP A BIT.
THIS SEEMS TO BE A REGULARS MEETING SPOT FROM LONG AGO. FOR A SATURDAY DINNER IN MY OPINION THE PLACE WAS EMPTY. HATE LEAVING SO-SO REVIEWS BUT IT'S JUST CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM!!

Dining was excellent however restaurant allowed a child to play the dining room piano which was loud and distracting. This should not be permitted in a fine restaurant.

Easter at Bernard's was a wonderful experience! The food, ambiance and service are truly outstanding....and if you knew me you'd know I'm a very tough marker. Interesting wines, lovely live piano music at dinner kind attention to our 3 year old granddaughter. We've been before for special occasions and will certainly come again! It is quite expensive....even for the exceptional experience if provides.

First time here for first time and was disappointed. Had heard great things and was looking forward to it. Waited years to come. Easter Brunch was uninspired. No surprises on menu. Food was good. Ambiance was depressed and low energy. Decor was tired old New England inn. Service was poor in that waiters dropped silverware right and left. Children’s menu advertised ice cream sundaes but they served same dessert as on regular menu and disappointed. Not worth complaining about. We had had enough. Just not the special meal I had been long anticipating.

Must have passed Bernard's fifty times going to/from the Ridgefield Playhouse, but never at a time that seemed good for dinner. Finally decided to try it because we had both afternoon and evening performances and thus had to eat someplace. Wow and double Wow! Extraordinary food, both classically French and still inventive. Utterly delicious. Everything perfect. What a surprise to find top shelf wines hardly marked up at all from retail. Going back in two weeks! And since the road there is a major thoroughfare, it's worth going just to go and eat, even though it's over twenty miles away.

Everything was great, as usual.

Near the end of dinner the electricity went out, but rather than panic, the staff brought out dozens of candles, the piano kept playing, and the kitchen kept cooking, by the light of lanterns and emergency lighting.

It was quite a memorable night!

Don’t order the Tomahawk, chicken or the tomato soup. What a disappointment. Tomahawk was all fat, chicken entree disgusting and the tomato soup was pizza sauce from a jar garnished with basil. Our waiter tells us that several entrées are sold by 8:00. We were a party of 8. I was so embarrassed to have recommended this restaurant. The upstairs cafe is cheap and fun if you enjoy eating in an attic!
Go to Gallo around the corner for a good meal in Ridgefield or Planet Pizza.
