Bernard's Ratings and Reviews
We met friends at the upstairs bar and found several other couples enjoying their very creative cocktails. Our bartender was extremely friendly as were the guests in the bar area. We then went downstairs for dinner and each of us ordered something different. The venison was delicious (the best my friend's husband has ever had). We had two fish dishes and a beef dish--all were excellent. We loved the brussel sprouts that were served with the fish dishes. We also had two salads--split them and was plenty for the four of us. Don't forget to meet the owners--great story about their family and their business venture!!
Always a delightful experience - Wine and food, service and ambiance are all wonderful. I especially enjoy the piano player in the main dining room. Also, tables are not crowded together and your table conversation is private. A bit pricy but worth the cost.
We had Thanksgiving dinner at Bernard's. It was our first meal there and everything was delicious. We went there with little information other than online reviews and we were not disappointed. It was not an inexpensive meal, but thoroughly enjoyable. The service was excellent and the meal not rushed.
Very nice dinner. A bit pretentious with the parking and coat check. I’m not in favor of the mandatory 20% tip....Owner spent much time talking to one table, but did not interact with the other 4 tables. Would have been a classy move to ask all the diners if they were pleased and enjoyed their food.....
For years I have rated Chez Bernard as the best suburban restaurant in the region. We went for the Brunch service, at noon. Fresh flowers, soft live piano music in the background, wonderful choices of French cuisine including terrine, salmon, creme brulee, elegant service.
Although Bernard is a little far from Manhattan (about 1 1/2 hr going and closed to 2 hr for the return) we would recommend to try this restaurant. We have been there a few times and are yet to be disappointed. We like the ambiance, the relaxing decor, etc. Food served is good to very good, selection for lunches and brunches are varied; products used are fresh and prepared with care; small croissants served with the breads selection are very good. Personnel well trained and attentive. Wine list by the bottles, although huge, offers a few bottles at reasonable prices, which is not that always the case in most upscale restaurants in the Tri-State area. Bravo to the Chef and his wife Sarah.
Attentive and knowledgeable service. Provided the table requested on the Saturday night of a holiday weekend. Very classy. Live piano music great touch. Quality food creative menu. Lovely outdoor decorations for the season. Chef sent over drinks and special birthday dessert. Co-owner Sarah paid us a visit. Would definitely return.
Haven't dined at Bernard's in sometime and sadly, it has lost it's luster. Granted, it was a Tuesday evening, not busy, but still , it was a special occasion and we were all underwhelmed. Food was just not the quality I was hoping for. The striped bass was rubbery, dry and flavor- free, and was not anything like striped bass that I'd seen before. Under cooked Brussel sprouts, and an OK risotto were the sides. Wouldn't go back.
We arrived early and the place was quiet. The waitstaff was very attentive, intelligent and informative. Great place for a spirited conversation among 3 couples. Wine was excellent, the pace was proper. As for the food, it was interesting and definitely of the sort of what even an excellent cook such as my wife, would not make at home. Flavorful, eye pleasing and somewhat off the beaten path of high end restaurants. All prepared properly and shared among the 6 of us with equal response...delightful !
We wish the owners an long and successful run. Keep this standard and the rest is assured.
We have dined here numerous times. Driving 45 minutes one-way and worth every moment!!
Upstairs is Sarah's Wine Bar, upbeat, lighter fair with small bands on certain evenings. Downstairs is more formal (blazers very common) with a fantastic piano player on some evenings. Food is superb!!
Absolutely delicious - every course from oysters on the half shell and crabmeat stuffed squash blossoms (fresh from Chef's garden) to the fabulous lamb , beautifully presented - was A+. Assorted rolls fresh from the oven were welcoming as were the excellent mango margaritas! This all topped off with a trio of chocolate dessert samplings. Compliments to The Chef! Looking forward to returning.
Attentive service , the food was excellent ! Try the bacon sampler . If you love wine I have never seen a better wine list , with pictures of the country of the wine you are looking at . I never order fish(red meat , lamb) at a high end restaurant , ordered the grouper and was not disappointed. My wife got the duck who usually orders fish and she loved it. Very very good food . A perfect ending to a relaxing 12 th Anniversery day.
Have dined many times at Bernard's, and always congratulate myself on doing so.
One of my favorite dishes is the house speciality, pork chop ...perhaps the finest, on a regular basis, I've ever eaten.
I recommend the "staples" over all, and haven't found them to be lacking.
Love it here.
