    This review is somewhat unfair. In our opinion the Bernardsville Inn was always a bit tired and stodgy in terms of atmosphere and having been to 1776 I guess we were expecting that DB was going to transform this place. An unfair expectation given the historic landmark nature of the building. Also, we went on Valentines Day which is always a tough day for a restaurant to make a first impression. However we did have to wait an extremely long time between each and every course. ( 40 minutes from apps cleared to entrees served). And for a server to get it wrong in terms of who ordered which dish on every course at a table of two is irksome. So, two people, one mocktail, one cocktail, food fine but not outstanding for $300+ was not a great value. Folks, you're not missing much.

    Valentines Day is not the best way to experience a restaurant but this was our first time eating here and sadly, it will be our last. Pre-fixe menu had decent choices but all in all, for what we ate…it was just too expensive and the atmosphere was anything but romantic or intimate. The atmosphere was hectic and we felt as if there was a time limit to our dinner experience. Filet mignon was very good but the sirloin was fatty and grizzled and went uneaten…and with an up charge for that choice, the steak should have been perfection. It was not. Cocktails were just OK. We love dining out and do it often so we know when dinner is cooked and curated to your experience and when it is cooked en masse and ready to serve, this was not the curated evening we’d hoped for.

    We came for Valentine’s Day. The food was excellent. Bartenders were friendly and David our server was awesome

    Great experience! Food was perfect! Octopus was amazing and the filet Diana cooked to perfection medium rare with a super savory mushrooms sauce. I suggest to add some ambience music like jazz to the place.

    I'll start off my review by saying our server was great. She was very attentive and professional. That was the highlight of our visit. We've been to both 1776 and Orchard Park so we were eager to try this location. Believe the bad reviews. Atmosphere: It is LOUD in there. The tables are so small and so close together you are basically eating with strangers with no room to move. Having a server's a$$ in your face when you're trying to eat is kind of annoying. Being constantly bumped into in your seat is annoying. One of the couples seated next to us complained of the same things. (It's impossible to ignore other conversations when you're on top of each other) Food: we started with the clothesline bacon and the bread service. Both a miss. The clothesline bacon was the worst (always enjoyed at the other restaurants). It was burnt to a crisp and dry. No juice to drip onto the pickle. The bread (4 rolls) looked like it might've been baked fresh but it tasted stale and was almost inedible! How can you screw up bread? Even if it were free (it's $8) I would've still been mad. For entrees I ordered the chicken which was very good and my husband ordered the ribeye which came cooked incorrectly and lacked any flavor. There was no seasoning on it whatsoever. They provided a steak sauce which my husband never uses and he actually used it just to be able to eat the steak. The dessert was good and the drinks were good but for the quality of the food everything was overpriced. Overall we were so disappointed. I am surprised that in spite of all the other similar negative reviews nothing has changed. Shame.

    The service was excellent. The remodel done very well. Cocktails were great along with the appetizers. The main courses were disappointing, Cod in parchment was very fresh but had little or no taste. New York Prime Strip Steak was subpar. It was tough and had little taste. Don’t think it was a “Prime” cut. Desert cake cooked fresh in a tin pan was very good!

    Our server Andrew was attentive. The steak and seafood was flavorful and cooked perfectly.
