We have been to The Bernards Inn several times over the years. The food is good. This time the service was lacking. Our female server had a pout on her face the whole time and wasn't pleasant at all. No greeting of any kind when she first came to the table, not even a "hello"---just "can I take a drink order?" I felt like I was in Applebee's. The rest of the night I felt like we were bothering her. We were offered bread before our appetizers came and as always, it was delicious. However, I feel like during dinner we should be offered another piece and not have to ask for it. It's a small thing, but annoying in an upscale restaurant.

Great food, excellent service! It was our anniversary - the server proactively sent us over a special treat and card recognizing our anniversary! Nice touch!

Hadn’t been to the Inn in a long time and now intend to return more often. Everything was excellent. The somallier helped us pick out a fantastic wine and everyone enjoyed their food.

We decided spur of the moment to go to the Bernards Inn and sit in the bar area. Since Opentable reservations don't allow you to specify the main dining room vs. the library and the times for reservations were wide open, we headed over. It was a lively crowd and we ask the person at the reservations desk about a table. They said there were none even though we saw most of the tables were empty. Grabbed a small bar table and two stools near the piano and ordered a drink and made a reservation on Opentable for 30 minutes from the time we arrived.
Guess what? They seated us in one of the three empty tables and the others remained empty for the rest of the evening. I don't understand what this is all about. We have been going to this place for more than 20 years and never once has this happened before. Really is off putting and there is no excuse for it in my view. On the bright side, the holiday decorations are beautiful, the pianist was terrific, and our servers Wendy and Christine were great. Had a delicious lobster bisque and a mediocre burger with fries that were no better than okay.

An outstanding meal for Black Friday; I've dined here several times at this time of year and it's usually the first place I see with the Christmas decorations going up. It's all tastefully done, but so is everything else about the inn.

Must say tonight was a bit of a disappointment. This is usually our go-to place for consistently good food. Tonight was not the case. Both my husband and I had the fois gras. The fios gras itself was very good, however the twist of it to come off more like a dessert wasn’t so pleasant. It was served with a type of sweet bread pudding and some caramelized apples and dusted with confectioners sugar. Wasn’t my favorite. My husband had the steak and I had the lobster entree. Both lacked flavor and basically no seasoning. Disappointing. I had no dessert. My husband had the apple pie Creme brûlée. One very thin layer of torched sugar glaze which was extremely disappointing. The Creme brûlée itself had no flavor.. not even vanilla tasting. It was as served over a cookie with some small apple balls that seemed to have been poached in apple cider. Over all it was just ok. Will go back but not for a while. Will let the new chef get it together first,

We had a great experience. Went there for our anniversary. The most customized, caring service ever!!! Food was excellent. My lobster bisque, and partridge as main course was done very well. The pumpkin cheesecake was innovative and tasty. Restaurant is obviously serving excellent food under the leadership of Todd, new chef.

Excellent fish dishes, better than I expected. The wait staff had great recommendations, all courteous, no noisy table mates in the restaurant so we were able to enjoy our conversation and our waiter watched to make sure we were taken care of.

Consistently good. Love the ambiance and the wine list while not extensive but has some great choices. Food is solid (4 out of 5) but not the draw (at least for us). Generally a high quality piano player providing an interesting sound track for your dining experience. I noted the bar scene...for an older crowd. The Bernards Inn is solidly in our rotation.

This a special place for a special occasion. The food was excellent. My scallops were perfectly seared and my wife, who only has salmon rare, was not disappointed. Service was outstanding and the wine list extraordinary. It was a great way to celebrate our anniversary.

Ordered sirloin steal and duck. the steak tasted like it was sitting under a fluorescent light while the duck "cooked". Duck was undercooked and not tasty. Thought this would be a romantic setting but tables were too close together for that.

Last two visits to Bernards Inn have been disappointing for food and service . Service in this case applies to wait staff not the sommelier. Wait staff is slow and seems bothered or overwhelmed - in both visits. For the food, I had the tuna appetizer which was fresh, but otherwise no flavor -sauce or additional texture and the filet mignon which was cooked as requested (I asked for modification), but the overall dish had little flavor with the single potato slice and minimal dry vegetables. The Bernards Inn was always a "count on" place for special occasions or a "splurge". The value is not there at the moment. Hopefully this will change!

Went to the Bernards Inn to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The bar area is lively with a piano player and we enjoyed a pre-dinner cocktail that was expertly prepared. The dining room was well appointed and very comfortable. The service was extremely attentive and professional. We found the sommelier to be both knowledgeable and approachable. The food was excellent in both quality and presentation. We will certainly be returning.

We had a wonderful evening celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary at Bernards Inn. The food was wonderful....I highly recommend the grilled watermelon with burrata, which was fabulous. Also the scallops served on a bed of lemon risotto with asparagus. To die for! Our desserts were great and had happy anniversary written on the plates. The entire staff was professional and friendly and they all wished us happy anniversary and gave us a card signed by all as well as a box of chocolates as we left. We had a great celebratory dinner!

My husband and I were married at the Bernard's Inn last year, so we came back on our anniversary to dine at the restaurant. Frankly, the service was awful. Our server was impersonal and abrupt, and he barely came to check on us. We opted for the tasting menu and when the cheese course came out, we asked the server to tell us about the cheese. He literally said "the menu has the names of the cheese (but never got us a menu to reference), and said "this is like a blue cheese, this one has the consistency of a provolone, and this one has the consistency of a brie". We asked to speak to the sommelier when we sat down at 7:15 and by 8:00, after being served two of the tasting menu courses, she STILL had not come. We finally ordered a bottle of wine we had before (though we really wanted to celebrate with a new bottle we had not tried before). Service was really awful and we were really upset by this. We thought that we would go back to the Bernard's Inn each year to celebrate our anniversary but are certain that we will never be back given how awful we were treated on our anniversary dinner.

The food is excellent. We had a 5 course dinner and it was fantastic. I would say the individual meals were just a little too big . the appetizers had the right size, but course 3 and 4 was too much. So a little bit smaller portions would be great. I know it is pricy and maybe people expect bigger portions but personally i prefer smaller ones.

As always, a lovely meal here. 'Ambiance' is a challenge to review as we took advantage of the lovely weather and sat outside...having sat inside plenty of times, I can say that the atmosphere is lovely...except in the room with the tile floor, as it is quite loud. But the library/bar area is nice (more contemporary) and th formal dining room is fantastic (traditional fine dining style and quieter). The menu is always interesting, the quality of the ingredients is without parallel and if you even like soup a little, this guy is a true genius with soups (best lobster bisque on the planet). Some dishes may seem a little 'weird'/CIA, but trust him...they flat out WORK. Highlights include butter poached lobster (lobster foam was exquisite!), grilled watermelon (just try it) and, believe it or not, amazing fish n chips (light batter, halibut, amazing!).

lovely historic building, very enjoyable ambiance and well prepared entrée dishes. The salmon was prepared as requested and it was exquisite. The pork porterhouse was also very tasty and prepared perfectly! The key lime dessert left something to be desired as the dessert chef would not leave off the berry topping.

We did not appreciate that we were put in the back dark room with only two other sets of diners
