The food, service and ambiance at the Bernards Inn can’t be matched. Dave and his staff are phenomenal.
An excellent dining experience based on exceptional food and service in a lovely atmosphere.
This has been our favorite place for years and this time was no exception. The food was delicious and the service impeccable.
Great place for a nice evening out. A very nice old school restaurant with superior service.
My wife and I came to Bernards Inn for dinner. on Saturday. From the time we walk in the staff was amazing. Our waitress was outstanding. Her name was Wendy and her customer service skills were exceptional. She made us feel so welcome and gave us great tips about the menu. We will be back back for dinner or brunch in the future.
The food was not all as good as I expected. We were there for the Prix-Fixe dinner - the mushroom soup was cold and tasteless. The ham entree was excellent but portions were small. Dessert was good. Our service was excellent so it is a shame that the meal did not meet the excellence of the service.
Easter 3-course prix fixe
Service was attentive and friendly, but not overbearing.
Home-baked raisin bread was killer as was the mushroom soup.
The filet was cooked to perfection. Sauteed onion pepper topping had just the right hint of spice. Veggies (creamed spinach and potato points) were very good.
Cocktails tasty, but not exceptional.
Dessert was a let down:
Rice pudding was peculiarly over-spiced and home-made pistachio ice cream also had an unusual flavor/ingredient. Chocolate was very good, though.
Overall, pleasant. But I've had far better meals for $300. This will probably be a one-time only, though I may try the Sunday buffet.
Went for Easter brunch. Loved the food selection, ambiance and service. So kid and consistent choice.
An elegant room and a very well planned menu!
Wonderful food! Can't wait to go back!
Haven't been here in years, but went for BF's birthday. Wow, the food is EXCELLENT! So is the service! He had mushroom soup, little gem salad, and cavatelli with crab. I had tuna tartare, Caesar salad, and swordfish. Bread was top notch, a telling point in a restaurant. Usually I pass but I couldn't resist. Excellent wine list. At the end of the meal they brought out some desert with a candle and a birthday card signed by our waiter and the heads of all the staff in the inn! WOW!!! What a personal touch. My only complaint, if it is that, is the bar is right next to the restaurant and can get noisy. But once we got a drink and settled in we didn't really notice it. We highly recommend this restaurant and will DEFINITELY be back, the sooner the better!!
My wife and I dine in New York many times, however, if we decide to eat in New Jersey (we live in Princeton, NJ), and want a “New York Experience, we only visit the Bernards Inn. The food is always outstanding, the wine selection is remarkable and the service is excellent. My wife had duck and I had pork loin. Each meal was done to perfection. Since we were eating a different meal, the sommelier helped us choose a wine that would be an excellent choice to pair with our main dishes. Her choice was perfect. Whenever we celebrate a special event or want to have dinner with special friends, this is our go to restaurant. The Bernard Inn has been consistently outstanding for the past 10 years.
Nothing special. Tried so hard to like it. We used to frequent at Bernards Inn, just 2 miles from us, it was like our kitchen with Ed Stone as the chef but it was going down since. Been coming here every now and then but Friday night was nothing special. The foie gras with French toast underneath was so soggy, I thought it was wet cotton gauze. Did not eat it. My husband ate his $54.00 8oz Filet mignon. I had for my main course was scallops. They gave me 4 scallops and scattered it on a rectangular plate with some kind of sauteed cabbage. Scallops were sandy. I did not complaint for we just want to end the evening. we did not order dessert but cappuccino. It was drafty too. Sorry to be candied but can't help it.
The Bernards Inn never disappoints. The food, service and ambiance are first rate. We went for our anniversary but would recommend it for any occasion or just dinner. I would also recommend the bar.
Great. Love this place
Love this restaurant but tonight very disappointed. $40 for lobster thermidore. Was skimpy and awful. Take off menu.
Another outstanding combination of food, wine, and service here at the inn; every dining experience is always a pleasure.
Excellent food and wonderful selection of wine tastings or you can ask Terri Baldwin, super Sommelier, to make a special tasting for you. The cocktails were excellent and creative with special ingredients made in house by the bartender.
Love this restaurant - consistently provides excellent food, service and wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend this restaurant. Favorite place to go to enjoy a romantic dinner with my husband.
We had a breakfast as well as lunch. A person serving us was nice. We had very satisfying meals especially breakfast.
Wife and I had a pre-Valentine's lunch and my usual Open Table special request was once again fulfilled. The menu is changed seasonally and is creative. The bar area and table areas evoke beautiful wood decor and class. Lunch menu is limited but every offering appears to be carefully thought-out while the explanation of each leads you into thoughts of interesting tastes. We ordered the grilled sirloin burger and fish & chips - both outstanding for lunch. The burger meat was tasty with caramelized onions, applewood smoked bacon and Vermont white cheddar cheese while the fish was cod and lightly beer battered with old bay spiced fries. Table service was professional and helpful but not pushy. This restaurant is worth travelling to for a romantic special occasion dinner or just hang out at the bar for drinks and casual food offerings. This is one of our favorite go-to places.
As a party of 4, we dined on Sunday evening. Before we began, a small serving of complimentary mushroom soup was brought to the table. I could have eaten a pot of it! I started with Caesar salad (which was split--in the kitchen--with my husband), followed by the L.I. duck breast in corn emulsion, and had the chocolate mousse for dessert. My meal was excellent! I have never had such succulent and delicious duck breast. I cannot wait to have this entree again. Two others at the table had the scallops and felt they were cooked to perfection. A server brought assorted fresh, homebaked breads for us to select. The mousse was made with fine quality chocolate and was superb! After dessert, a complimentary assortment of chocolates and sweets was brought to the table. Our server was professional and attentive without being over-bearing. This was my birthday and I must say we could not have selected a better restaurant. In many ways, not mentioned, the wait staff and chef made my birthday memorable. The architecture and ambiance of this historic building also contributed to a very special evening. For years, we have enjoyed The Bernards Inn and it is not resting on its laurels, but has only gotten better! Thank you to the staff and chef of the Bernards Inn for making my special day so very memorable!
The food was good and the service was exceptional. Our Waitress was so friendly and accommodating.
Delicious brunch. Beautiful ambiance. Very elegant. Attentive and top notch service!!
The Bernard’s Inn exceeds our expectations every time. I highly suggest trying the 6 course chefs menu.
Still a special occasion to dine at Bernard's Inn but service seems to have slipped a bit from the very high bar set years ago. The salt roasted beets were tasty but the horseradish crème fraiche was barely present. Oysters were pricey and, although tasty and clean, were a little banged up. Both the filet ands the venison were prepared well and were very flavorful. As always the gem was the wine list, including an expanded selection at lower price points. Seeing the Lewis Alec's Blend on the list was a real treat and at a good price point too. Cockburn 20-year tawny paired well with a yummy crème brulee.
Everything was wonderful. We sat in the bar area and it was a little loud. However there was no one in the lower dining room that wasn’t as beautiful. But we had an overall lovely time.
This was our first time having brunch at the Bernard's Inn. I had the lobster roll and my hubby had the brisket burger - both were delicious. Pricey but worth it. Definitely a great date night or special occasion place. Service is impeccable.
All were very attentive
Food presented nicely and very good
Food was excellent and the service could not have been better. Piano bar is really great for a nightcap
A great restaurant with outstanding food and service in a historic inn that has great ambiance. I had a venison steak that was tender and cooked to perfection with a very tasty sauce. The deserts are also delicious - I had toffee cake. We were celebrating a special occasion and it was the perfect venue for that.
Loved the experience....
I was really looking forward to going there to celebrate my celebrate my 75th birthday. Went with my son, daughter son-in-law and significant other. When we were arrived and were seated we were offered bread. We then proceeded to order drinks and food. That was the last time we saw anything in terms of bread. Service up to this point was good but nothing special. I won’t comment on the food ordered by my children or son-in-law. My significant other and I ordered two of each of the oysters on the menu. When they arrived we asked which were which and were told thy types by size but not by what was on the plate. We asked for fresh horseradish and were served overly vinegared prepared horseradish. We had to ask twice to get fresh ground pepper for one of the appetizers. I ordered pair special lobster pot pie which was actually a deconstructed pot pie. The lobster tail was way overcooked and tough, the potatoes were undercooked and hard. Under ordinary circumstances I would have sent the dish back. My significant ordered the pasta special which was mediocre at best. The ice cream dessert was very good and it was nice to receive a card and foxes chocolates from the staff. Overall I was very unhappy and shelf at the restaurant did not live up to its reputation.
Food is good but the portion was very small. Expensive. You can get a better value anywhere else in the area.
We started at the bar while waiting for the restaurant to open. Each got a drink. My wife asked for a drink that wasn’t on the menu and the bar tender created something to accommodate and it was delicious. We were seated for dinner right next to the bar, which we didn’t really care for but it is what it is. She tried the butternut squash soup and I tried the salt roasted beets for starters. She enjoyed her soup and the roasted beet appetizer was also good. For the main course I tried the mushroom cavatelli and she had the quinoa and kale salad. Again both were good. For desert we tried 3 of the deserts. The apple pie creme brûlée, the bread pudding and the chocolate mouse. The bread pudding was more cake like and dry but still had a good flavor. Over all it was a good experience however I felt for the money, it was over priced.
The Bernards Inn is a lovely spot for a celebratory dinner. We enjoyed drinks at the bar and dinner in the lovely dining room. Its a classy place with good food and atmosphere in Bernardville NJ.
We returned to Bernard's Inn for our anniversary, having been there several times before. It was just OK this time. We were surprised to see three empty tables at 7:00 on the Friday before Christmas. The food (steak for me and lobster for my wife) was satisfactory, not great. Wine didn't appear until we were halfway through our main course. We'll try another place next anniversary.
Bernards Inn is spectacular. Cudos to Sherri our sever and Terry our sommelier.
We dine at Bernard’s Inn often at least once a month or so and it never disappoints , the service is impeccable and the food top notch , no matter what one orders , they change their menu constantly which is wonderful ! My husband had the calves liver and I the bolognese both were excellent ! The roasted beet for appetizers was fabulous too !
Great food and service good for a relaxing lunch
Good for any occasion
