Bernardin's Restaurant - Charlotte
Sloppy service. Establishment needs updating
Awesome meal and great service.
Allison was an outstanding and personable server, providing candid and thoughtful comments to our menu questions. The food was outstanding. We were a little surprised it was not more crowded on a Friday night, but realized the Carolina Panthers were playing and downtown streets were closed due to the preparations for the PRIDE parade the next day. Our first time at Bernardin’s and we loved it. We’ll be back and bringing friends!
We were seated nicely in the dining room so that some in our party could see Tryon St. Very comfortable. The food choices provided both traditional and some unusual options (kangaroo) but all in our party were please with their choices including one who had the boar appetizer. We were able to talk easily. The service was smooth and consistent, and she recognized our need to get to the theater on time. All in all a fun time and my friend would like to go back in the future.
I found this restaurant very noisy and not easy to have a conversation in. We were a party of only two people. I found myself talking very loudly. Our service was very professional the waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. I think for the prices that were being asked this room had little ambience or warmth for my taste.
Excellent, excellent, excellent. From the food to the staff!!! I'm sorry I haven't been sooner!!!
From the amazing server, well-crafted drinks, perfectly prepared food and the homemade cheesecake, I highly recommend this place. I took my girlfriend out for a romantic date and she couldn't stop talking about it for the rest of the week. It was a fantastic experience and will be back for sure!
Had the mahi-mahi and it was fabulous.
Server was fun and attentive Goat cheese tart wonderful and outstanding cheesecake
My husband eats here on occasion for business dinners and enjoys it so we tried it for his birthday.
I had requested a table by the window when I made the reservation. When we got to the restaurant it was a little busy so we were seated way in the back and told there were no available tables by the window. Well, within five minutes after being seated 3/4 of the restaurant paid their bill and left to go see a show. Sadly, now, there are many tables by the window that are open. It is hard for me to understand why the hostess wouldn’t just ask us if we did not mind waiting five more minutes for some tables to open up. We took it upon ourselves to move to a better table.
I personally did not enjoy the food at all. I had ordered the Heirloom tomato salad and my tomato was not ripe so I did not eat it. The main courses were a little too gamy and chewy for me.
My husband, who has eaten there frequently, said it was not their best night.
The entrance/bar area Is very due for a makeover.
Excellent for dining before a performance at the Knight Theatre!
Food was fantastic and vey delicious. We ate the lobster and lobster ravioli, and steak. All cooked perfectly. Our server was very attentive and Creme brûlée was excellent. Will come again when visiting Charlotte
We really enjoyed this restaurant. The location was perfect for going to a show at the Knight Theatre. The food was delicious and our service was excellent especially since a huge party of about 20 people came in soon after we arrived. The noise level became extremely loud after the large party arrived which was too bad because we could hardly hear ourselves talk. Other than that we would definitely return.
Excellent food and service. Would highly recommend.
Delicious entrees — especially filet, which had great sear and was cooked to perfection. Scallops were over cooked and a bit fishy. Very disappointing. Server had three other tables and wasn’t as attentive as we would like. Overall, though, an excellent meal.
Date night was perfect. The food was sooo good, I ordered lamb for the first time ever lol and listen AMAZING. The crab cakes were really good, the shrimp appetizer that everyone ordered was also amazing. Really cute set up, our server did an awesome job!!! We loved it
My husband and I came during restaurant week - was looking forward to since it had great reviews. However, just ok. The decor and ambience was low rent 1990’s. Horrible art, weird columns, fake flowers, wobbly table and very loud. Server was sweet, but seemed very nervous. Food came out the fastest I’ve ever been served. My husband really like the tuna, but my salad was a little frozen - obviously had been made ahead of time and refrigerated. Overall, the rest of the food was decent, but I definitely wouldn’t go back and pay full price.
I typically don’t review restaurants while visiting during Restaurant Week because it’s not the normal menu, it’s abnormally packed, so I think it’s unfair. However, Bernardin’s rocked it! Still great service, still great/interesting food, very good wine list and fun cocktails. I had a perfectly cooked steak with a very fresh crab cake. The shrimp appetizer was fresh and simple. The tuna appetizer was superb. Homemade sorbet was the perfect ending. I love this place, even during the crazy week!
We had a lovely evening. Everthing met or exceeded our expectations. We were a party of 4 and our table was ready when we arrived. The service was great, we never felt rushed even though it was queensfest. We all had different selections and every one lovedtheirs. I had the garlic shrimp ist course it was delicious. My main was the filet (3) and crab cake. Perfect again. Great night will definitely return . So many good things on the menu to try next time.
My Birthday Celebration was over the top everyone made me feel special
Nice place, good food.
Food was delicious and came out not soon after ordering. A little loud from chatter but all in all great experience.
innovative cooking and great service in a sophisticated atmosphere.
Good food great value. Love the sea bass and lamb chunk.
Bernardin’s has unquestionably good food. For my meal, I had a Caesar salad to start, the 9oz filet as the entree, a blueberry peach crumble for dessert along with some delicious dinner rolls and a few very well-made vodka martinis. Everything was good. The only issue I had is that there are a lot of new and interesting places opening up in Charlotte. Atmospherically, Bernardin’s felt a little bit dated and was not quite as elegant as the prices suggest. That said, If you are looking for a really strong traditional meal centered around meat, fish, and vegetables, it is certainly recommended.
Bernardin's never disappoints me One of the Best hands down!
Great food. Great location.
Shrimp appetizer, filet and crab cake entree, and chocolate torte were all amazing. It was our first visit and we plan to return. It is now one of our favorite Charlotte restaurants.
Nice atmosphere, white table cloth restaurant. Matt was a good server meeting customer requests. Had the Foie Gras with an available 10 yr old tawny port in lieu of Sauterne. The tandoori kangaroo loin was perfect mid-rare with a nice melange of vegetables. The biscuit strawberry shortcake is not to be missed with a fresh, hot cup of coffee. Worth the premium, regardless of QF 2019.
We went for Queen’s Feast (restaurant week) with a 9:15 reservation. The restaurant was fairly full when we arrived, but only a couple tables remained when we left. The service was slow throughout our meal. My wife had the bass which was very good. I had filet and crab. My steak was ordered medium rare and delivered very rare. The crab cake was very dry and difficult to find any crab. Our server was busy setting empty tables and could not be bothered to check in with us on air entrees. It was our anniversary, however, not once were we acknowledged. The only acknowledgment we received was Bernardin’s cancelling the Rez in Opentable (who put it back in after I wrote).
Not a great experience for what is normally a great restaurant.
The food was fabulous and we loved our waiter Matt who was very attentive even though we were sitting upstairs. It was private but nice because we could see everyone in the dining room and that was cool. The shrimp appetizer was especially delicious and also loved the torte and sorbet for dessert. WONDERFUL MEAL for restaurant week!
Alex the waiter was awesome. Food was great and room was beautiful
We came for restaurant week and the whole experience was exceptional. This was our first restaurant week experience since moving to Charlotte and we were not sure what to expect. Bernardin’s hit every note. Beautiful establishment, excellent service, and the food was yummy.
I believe Matt waited on us....excellent server! There were 6 of us & everyone enjoyed!
I went for my birthday. Our server was incredibly nice and made very good suggestions, It was restaurant week and she gave us the option to other entrees just by paying an extra $10, which was worth it. My husband order the scallops, they were delicious and I had venison... not too crazy about it. Our appetizers were delicious (shrimps and clam chowder) and dessert was good too. The food was served at an amazing speed, I hate slow service but they were fast. I loved that.
A friend and I took advantage of Charlotte Restaurant Week and were thrilled with Bernardin's food [the lamb shank out of this world] the staff, the ambiance and the service. It was a delight!
Went to Bernardin’s to experience the Queen’s Feast menu
Great dinner tonight, we had the kangaroo and the emu, loved both! Also had the peach blueberry cobbler and oreo cheesecake for dessert, yum!
I loved everything about the place except that, with a group of 11 that really needed to connect, it would have been beneficial to have been in a secluded room. It was so boisterous in there that it was difficult to hear one another; quite the competition for airspace!
Great spot for a large group. Food is always amazing!
