Great food and great environment. The filet was cooked perfectly and the lobster lobster was outstanding. Will be back.
Amazing service, exquisite food! Thanks so much!
My wife had grilled salmon and it was wonderful. I had pepper crusted shrimp. The name is misleading. There were a few flakes of pepper on the shrimp and not much pepper flavor. The dish was very good but the name does not represent the actual dish.
Pricey menu but extremely good. Food was great. Sat outside and it was windy. Staff put down screen for us which helped a lot. Will definitively go back. Great dining.
The ingredients at this restaurant are top notch. Unfortunately the rest of the experience was lacking. My husbands food was very flavorful and well balanced. Mine was not. I had the Emu for an entree and the dish was very sweet, no balance to the flavors at all. For a first course, I had the foie gras, which was delicious, but was supposed to be paired with a pecan peach compote and instead came with walnuts. I know this seems rather trivial, but it is the attention to detail in a plate that makes a dish stand out.
The service was mediocre. Our dinner was rushed. Each course coming out almost instantaneously with no time between. The dinner took less than 40 minutes from ordering to our entrees being cleared. We had to ask them to wait to bring the desert menu until we had finished the wine from dinner. I’m not used to feeling rushed at any fine dining establishment. Oddly, the couple two tables away were informed on arriving that dinner usually lasted and hour and a half, and the wait staff wanted to ensure this would be okay. I’m not sure wether our waiter was in a hurry but we would have appreciated a more relaxed dining experience.
It was also a little concerning that on arriving one of the waiters was slumped in a chair by the front door playing on his cell phone. He did not even look up as we entered. Just unprofessional.
The bar service is oddly lacking at this restaurant. We asked for a cocktail menu on arrival and were informed that they had a full bar, but no signature drinks. Good wine selection though.
The seating was also a little odd. We were the first guests to arrive and were sat in the main dining room. If you are familiar with the restaurant, their is a main room and two smaller ones off the side. They then proceeded to seat an 8 tip and another two top in the same room. It seemed silly to crowd everyone into the same room when they had plenty of available space. We spent the evening listening to an interview.
Excellent food, would like some improvements to the wine list.
We were happy with the service and the taste of our food.
But, the menu did not reflect the same prices as our dining ticket.
The server was to inquire, and the manager didn't seem approachable.
My husband called Monday evening to discuss this with the manager & he
said, "Sorry", "Yeah you got a whole lobster tail, instead of 1/2 lobster tail".
The menu didn't reflect 1/2 or whole, just one price. We weren't that concerned
about $6. His steak was also priced $1.00 higher than the menu price. So, we want to
know what we are paying and be able to choose our value for money spent. Not see one
price and be charged for another.
Good food, nice place, but the service made it hard to enjoy. I'm sure it was just an off night, but it was way off. Mac12 on the rocks arrived as a dribble of Glenlivet served in a brandy snifter neat. Wine didn't go any better. Appetizers and salads came after the entrée, which was cold. The server and manager were very kind and apologetic. Just an off night i'm sure.
Food and service was Fantastic, varied menu something for everyone all has a twist which is very different and great!
We were late getting there and closing the kitchen but accommodated us and we were so grateful. As it turned out it was the best meal I had the entire week I was in North Carolina trying new places.
I very much enjoyed my dinner at this restaurant. However, I will not return because dining is on the second floor and rest rooms are down a flight of stairs. Due to age related physical problems, this put an edge on the dining experience.
The filet was amazing as was the emu. We stayed for dinner and dessert. It was all noteworthy. The wine list was exceptional and we had a great bottle of red to complement everything. I would highly recommend this restaurant
Enjoyed it very much, pleasant setting, prompt service and food was top notch.
Hands down my favorite in town.
Mother/son dinner. We enjoyed our meals very much and the service was very good.
Worst service of any restaurant I’ve been to in Winston
I dine out a lot and will NOT go back here
Had to keep asking other servers to send our server
Food was brought out late and cold
A surprise to find in downtown Winston Salem. Delicious food and wonderful atmosphere.
Corey our waiter was outstanding! The setting is fantastic and the food is delicious! We traveled 75 miles to dine at Bernandin’s and it was most definitely worth the trip!
We love going there. Food is always so delicious. The wait staff is unreal. Wonderful. Very friendly.
Great Food. Great Service. Awesome Atmosphere. One in our party had a medical emergency and the staff was so helpful and accommodating. This was my first visit since it became Bernardin's. I will return.
We loved our dinner. We went for a Birthdsy celebration and sat outside under the lights and it was great.
Server was not very friendly. Manager was borderline rude to our guest. Food was bland.
Always one of our favorites!!! A must if you’re in Winston-Salem, NC!!!
Server and staff made us feel a bit rushed. Food had good flavor, moderate portions; could have been served hotter. Staff smoking on/near the porch, and we were near the door, so the smell was very overpowering. Lots of kitchen noise (lots of broken glass!) heard during our meal. I might try brunch/lunch to see if the overall experience is better, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.
Was the perfect place for a business dinner. Food was excellent!
Very good, but the menu does not seem as good as it once was. Not sure if there has been a chef or ownership change. Don’t get me wrong. Still very good.
We celebrated Valentine’s Day by having dinner with some friends. The restaurant was busier than usual and either the staff hadn’t been trained to handle the volume or the management didn’t have enough staff on duty. The waiter told us (multiple times) how busy he was and was rather brusque throughout our meal. The food was delicious though.
I’ve been to Bernardin’s on regular nights and the service was impeccable.
We ate Valentines dinner. The meal choices were excellent with several local options. The service was very good. Would recommend this restaurant I’m highly.
Valentines Day. Food was great, waitress was nice and experienced.
Exceeded our expectations. Steak was great and probably the best Ranch dressing I’ve ever had. Only minor negative was the small steps leading to the second floor (especially for my wife in high heels...lol). This is the first time I’ve eaten at their new location. Ate many times at the old location and the food was just as good now or possibly better. I have already recommended this to many of our friends.
Great food, great service and impressive wine list. The menu is very creative and everything was done to perfection. Looking forward to spring and dining on the covered patio while enjoying the fire pit.
The scallops and filet mignon were cooked perfectly. Our server was excellent.
Reserved for special occasion. Scallops were outstanding as was waiter. But we asked for a quiet table upstairs and not only got placed downstairs in a crowded noisy room but the waitress for the table next to us was literally obnoxious. For 20+ minutes she used her loudest voice to talk with her customers - yelling her remarks, laughing like a buffoon, inappropriately telling jokes. She did this without regard for us and despite the fact that we were obviously upset as we could NOT talk at all above her and we made sure she knew it by staring at her. Even our waiter looked at her multiple times in an attempt to shut her up. But she couldn't have cared. We came away with headaches, and she literally ruined out meal. $150 outlay for a terrible evening. We did call to complain and while the manager apologized for her rudeness, he made no effort to compensate us for our ruined evening and never even said - give us another chance...we'll make it right. I for one won't be coming back.
Our first visit. Fantastic service from Monica. Delicious food. Cozy feeling.
Portions are small so we each ordered dessert and still left hungry. Our bill was 100.00 for the two of us, so would expect to not be hungry. Other restaurants nearby with same attributes are a better value.
Outstanding meal on both occasions that I have dined there. Highly recommended.
Wow, what a hidden gem! The food was outstanding! Great selection and presentation. The entrees and sides were very unique and delicious! Our new favorite!
My wife and I went on a Wednesday night as a date and catchup to celebrate our birthdays. There were two business parties in the larger dining area, but the host offered a cozier adjacent room that buffered us from most of the noise. The food was excellent as well as service from Monica who steered us to a recommended wine. We don't typically eat desserts, but the chocolate cake is a must. Bernardin's is one of our favorite restaurants in WS and we haven't been disappointed yet.
A recommendation. If you wish a quiet experience for two, you may wish to try a weeknight when optional seating is available. These old taverns have small rooms with hard walls, floors, and ceilings. It's easy for your conversation to be overwhelmed when crowded or having adjacent parties of 4 or more. Plan your night accordingly.
Great food, dining experience being a historical home made dining a little cramped..
The food, as it always is, was quite excellent. The ribeye my husband ordered was perfectly prepared and the grouper I ordered was delicious. Monica was an attentive server and very knowledgeable about the menu.
