Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely House Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated Valentine’s Day by having dinner with some friends. The restaurant was busier than usual and either the staff hadn’t been trained to handle the volume or the management didn’t have enough staff on duty. The waiter told us (multiple times) how busy he was and was rather brusque throughout our meal. The food was delicious though.
I’ve been to Bernardin’s on regular nights and the service was impeccable.
Exceeded our expectations. Steak was great and probably the best Ranch dressing I’ve ever had. Only minor negative was the small steps leading to the second floor (especially for my wife in high heels...lol). This is the first time I’ve eaten at their new location. Ate many times at the old location and the food was just as good now or possibly better. I have already recommended this to many of our friends.
Reserved for special occasion. Scallops were outstanding as was waiter. But we asked for a quiet table upstairs and not only got placed downstairs in a crowded noisy room but the waitress for the table next to us was literally obnoxious. For 20+ minutes she used her loudest voice to talk with her customers - yelling her remarks, laughing like a buffoon, inappropriately telling jokes. She did this without regard for us and despite the fact that we were obviously upset as we could NOT talk at all above her and we made sure she knew it by staring at her. Even our waiter looked at her multiple times in an attempt to shut her up. But she couldn't have cared. We came away with headaches, and she literally ruined out meal. $150 outlay for a terrible evening. We did call to complain and while the manager apologized for her rudeness, he made no effort to compensate us for our ruined evening and never even said - give us another chance...we'll make it right. I for one won't be coming back.
Our first visit. Fantastic service from Monica. Delicious food. Cozy feeling.
Portions are small so we each ordered dessert and still left hungry. Our bill was 100.00 for the two of us, so would expect to not be hungry. Other restaurants nearby with same attributes are a better value.
My wife and I went on a Wednesday night as a date and catchup to celebrate our birthdays. There were two business parties in the larger dining area, but the host offered a cozier adjacent room that buffered us from most of the noise. The food was excellent as well as service from Monica who steered us to a recommended wine. We don't typically eat desserts, but the chocolate cake is a must. Bernardin's is one of our favorite restaurants in WS and we haven't been disappointed yet.
A recommendation. If you wish a quiet experience for two, you may wish to try a weeknight when optional seating is available. These old taverns have small rooms with hard walls, floors, and ceilings. It's easy for your conversation to be overwhelmed when crowded or having adjacent parties of 4 or more. Plan your night accordingly.
I went here for the Big Eat with the special being 1/2 off the Sauteed Brie Stuffed Chicken. It was easy to make a reservation, did not wait to be seated. Was sat in a small room with two other couples but was not too loud or as bad as I expected. The food was presented beautifully and was very delicious! The waitress was nice to us but a little snappy with her co-worker in front of us. This place is in a beautiful old house and I would definitely come back. I do recommend this place!
Went to restaurant for husband's birthday. The location was perfect. Very old house and had that special charm. As soon as we walked in we were taken to our table which was in a room upstairs. The restaurant was full, but the room we had dinner in was empty. Very private.
Meal was great. Service good. Would definitely go back.
Glad we were able get a reservation for New Year"s Eve dinner. Service with a smile, is always wonderful. Wine recommendation was spot on. Indoor dining setting, in my opinion, is too crammed. We'll have to go back to check out the "Patio" dining experience, once the weather warms up. Upscale pricing. & good quality food, not too bad. We had a nice family dinner. Thank you!
We were a little bit disappointed in the service. Also when the bread was delivered to the table there was on 2 rolls for 4 people. The waiter decided to discuss the specials between two tables and it was as hard to hear. I wish he would have delivered the special to individual tables and showed more excitement when describing. The food tasted awesome.
Everyone there was seated upstairs while the dining room downstairs was empty with the lights turned off I am elderly with asthma and the stairs were very hard for and on me to manage. My friends food had to be returned and the room was so loud with noise and chatter we could not hear each other’s conversation. The experience was not enjoyable at all and both of us said going down those narrow uneven steps we would not be returning. And the walkway from the parking lot to the front door. Is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
We had been to Bernardin's for lunch and decided to try it for my husband's birthday and the restaurant far exceeded our expectations. My husband had the kangaroo and I had the duck - both equally delicious! The owner/chef came around to discuss how the meal tasted and one could tell, he was very interested in the voice of the customer. Would recommend this restaurant for any special occasion - don't wait to try it!
We went for our anniversary and it didn’t disappoint. This is my favorite restaurant in town. The filet is perfection. The service is subtle and perfect. The seating is private and cozy in the house. There are usually stairs so be prepare for that as it is a historic home. Terry and his team delivered a lovely evening. We can’t wait to go back again.
Went there for "date night" on a Tuesday. The food was excellently prepared and presented, with great flavors. Our waitress was a little slow (my wife's second glass of wind was not delivered until after she had finished her entrée), but knowledgeable about the dishes, and made excellent suggestions.
Outstanding quality and presentation, as well as the loveliest of settings. I'm a jaded NYer whose expectations run high. Bernadin's price points are great value, as well. Thinking one more meal before returning home this week and looking forward to our next visit. As it was raining, I didn't take note of outdoor seating.
