Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely House
Not even close to a five star experience, food is just ok.
Enjoyed the evening with friends.
I must have written a half dozen reviews on Bernardin's and am always happy to do it because the Lee family owns several restaurants in Winston Salem and the same high standards are always on display. They are a genuine asset to Winston-Salem. We happen to prefer Bernardin's at Zevely House because it is a block from our home, has the best outdoor dining I have experienced in urban America, a friendly and knowledgeable service staff and simply the best food in town. We have eaten at any number of good restaurants in Winston-Salem, but there is just something about Bernardin's at Zevely House that appeals to us over all the rest, as good as they might be. Now if they would just open a truly French restaurant, my life would be complete. Otherwise we will have to travel to Wilmington, about a four hour car trip, to eat at Caprice.
The Drumfish special was so delicious. I am still dreaming about it!
My new favorite. Everything about this restaurant was even better than expected. Will definitely return.
Excellent meal and service
Our waitress Brooke was amazing! The food was phenomenal as always and the drinks where fantastic. Such a great spot in town.
Always enjoy everything about it!
Out of a couple of things on the menu but what they did have was excellent. Server was great. Small martinis but excellently made
Showed up for or 8.30 pm. Hostess was great. Sat next to the bar and after a few minutes had to ask for somebody to help us.
Then, very quickly we were informed that the kitchen was closing at 9.00 and would be better for us to sit and order our food.
Being a Friday night, we didn’t want to be rushed and decided to pay for our drinks and go somewhere else to eat.
I wouldn’t say the service was rude but it was rushed and careless. For a restaurant like this it is unacceptable.
I don’t think I’ll be back.
Flexible seating and accommodating staff. Top quality food and wine offerings. Cooked to perfection. Flavorful but never overbearing dishes that delight the palate and satisfy.
The restaurant was beyond my expectations we were greeted with a welcoming smile and hello, the service was outstanding and the food was delicious (amazing) me and the ladies said we have to come back.
Fantastic food, excellent service; this restaurant continues to excel!
This is the best restaurant in the Greensboro area. Excellent menu, flavor and ambiance.
We loved sitting outside for dinner. It was quiet, beautiful, and of course, the food was delicious. This was our second time at Bernardin's, and we will go again!
Food very good but wait-staff not personable. Will give it another try sometime.
The service was extremely slow. Everything from beginning to end was a waiting game for service. I had planned on leaving a minimal tip for the bad service, but when I got the bill, a twenty percent tip had been handwritten in by Bernardin’s. So there is zero incentive for the waiter to do a good job. If you don’t mind hanging out at Bernardin’s a long, long time, and having a waiter that looks like his hates his life, this place might be alright.
This restaurant is not handicapped accessable. My party included two people with limited mobility who were forced to navigate over a treacherous path leading to the entrance, climb rickety steps to enter, and then climb a long flight of steep stairs to get to our table. (You can imagine how they felt after finally sitting down.) In this day and age, that is unconscionable! I shouldn't have to ask if a restaurant is ADA compliant -- in 2019, I should be able to assume it is. As my party's host, I was humiliated a chose a restaurant so unwilling to accommodate two special needs diners. This was a very bad experience.
Good food, cool environment, but certainly a little overrated.
The food is always excellent!
Lovely historic house, excellent food and service. The restaurant is divided into several rooms. both upstairs and down, so that you have a good chance of a quiet meal Because the house is old, restrooms are down some winding, uneven brick stairs, so be careful.
Dinner celebrating graduation (small group). The servers were helpful and the right amount of attentive. Atmosphere great. Food was wonderful! My chicken was far above what you might think when you say ‘I’ll just have the chicken’. Per my companions the emu was excellent and the beef as well. Scallop entree top notch. Goat cheese tart was very good - just not as much of a standout versus other items. Already thinking ahead to next time we can visit.
Bernardin's is, and remains, one of our favorite restaurants in Winston-Salem. It is a go-to for anniversaries, Valentines, and other special occasions. The prices are on the high end for Winston, but it is white-table cloth dining and few (if any) restaurants here have such an interesting and exotic menu. There are other restaurants in the same or higher price range that may be considered "better" but they have very narrow menus.
The service was very well-paced; not too fast and not too slow. Drinks/refills came out with good timing.
The cocktails were good (made as they should be) but nothing exotic. It's not a craft cocktail bar, so that's fine. The escargot appetizer was amazing; the best I've ever had. The goat cheese app was great.
The main courses which we had (duck, emu, ribeye, and venison) were all great. For what it's worth, across several visits I have noticed that Bernardin's tends to cook things a little on the rare side compared to many other restaurants; Bernardin's medium rare is like rare at other places; medium here is like medium-rare. That's fine for us but you may want to revise your doneness preference. The wine is a little over-priced (I get it, that's where the margins are), but the foie gras was overcooked.
Will undoubtedly return.
We went for a birthday dinner for my husband. Great service and amazing food!
Always an enjoyable experience. Excellent setting, friendly, attentive staff, sublime cuisine.
Incredible restaurant in historic Winston Salem. The setting was lovely and the food was outstanding. Highly recommend!
Excellent and distinctive dishes not readily found at other restaurants in our area.
One of THE BEST meals I have ever eaten! The "Lobster Lobster" special was exquisite. First time here in 3 years. Both meals were among the best I have EVER had!
Perfect outdoor spring meal. Fabulous service, fabulous location, Bernardin's does an amazing job.
Great food, great patio.
We dined outside in the beautiful courtyard. Everything was fantastic: the food, the evening, the atmosphere. Monica was great! Loved it.
If your craving first class and many American cuisine favorites prepared at a higher level of skill and detail then this is your place
Great food and wonderful service. We sat outside which was very nice.
I've lived in Winston Salem for almost 5 years. My wife and I agreed on the way home, this is officially our favorite restaurant. The food was amazing. I hesitate to write this because I may not be able to get a table in the future but it is just too good not to write this review.
Wonderful! Our waiter Corey was amazing!
so yummy get the scallops and risotto! it was unreal! outdoor dining area looks amazing
The special was great. There actually is a parking lot, but be careful. Service was good too.
The food was excellentat Bernardin's but we felt that the management & staff were not as well schooled on the menu and wine selection and how to treat patrons.
My friend from the DC area was visiting and he said he would not want to revisit the restaurant when he returned in a few weeks. In fact he never wanted to go there again.
It all started when we had asked for a table on the first floor and the greeter/receptionist said I have nothing noted on your reservations for first floor. At that point we should have left because the receptionist & the manager basically called us liars and were very rude. I explained that I made the reservation online and I called once during the week and then again on Saturday and spoke with the receptionist/greeter to confirm first floor seating. It only got worse from then on.
We were seated on the 2nd floor and it was very noisy and hot. There was a large party behind us that made conversation at our table difficult.
My friend and I said all the management had to say was we are so sorry about the mix-up etc. Please accept our apologies let's find a solution to the issue. In stead we were basically called liars and insulted. Not a good way to start a lovely meal with friends and family.
When we had finished our meal. The manager appeared after he realized we weren't the $29 special meal deal crowd, and apologized. He gave us a free dessert.
All in all a little too late for the embarrassment experienced.
Being a local my husband and I had first come to know the Zeverly House some 30 years ago and were excited to see and enjoy the new Bernardin's Restaurant. You can imagine our disappointment.
Sunday we went across the street to Mozelle's and it was a delight!!
Excellent good as always but pace of service is too slow, even for a leisurely Saturday night dinner out with friends
