Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely House
Food, service and atmosphere was exceptional. Our waitress, Brooke, did a fantastic job and we look forward to coming back.
Went last weekend to celebrate Husband's birthday. The patio was just re-opened after the damage from the snowstorm last year. The new gazebo and dining area are beautiful! The grounds/patio were always really pretty but what they did really takes it up a notch! Hubby had the lobster special which he loved and I had the Cab Filet which was on a par with some of the best I have ever tasted! A true medium rare perfectly cooked with amazing horseradish sauce YUM. Our Server, Monika (Moni) was amazing as well, very attentive without being overbearing. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list and was very patient while we pondered over what wine to drink ;-) We saved some room after our meals for the Creme Brulee, which was a perfect ending to a truly special celebration! Overall a great experience! Will be back again and again!
Great menu with diverse offerings. We started with the goat cheese tart and tuna tar-tar, both of which were fantastic. Our mains included the double lobster, tuna and crab encrusted mahi. The entire meal was fantastic.
Fantastic food. Needs a bit better wine selection to complete a great restaurant in Winston-Salem.
Our waitress was Brooke and she was a very nice young woman who was informative and very helpful.
Celebrating my wife's birthday and it was great. Tammy our waitress was there when you had a need for her, The surf and turf outstanding, lobster melted in your mouth and the fillet cooked perfect. Great drink specials perfect manhattan. Tammy had a special desert for my wife complete with a birthday candled .
I honestly can't say enough good about this Restaurant, as the other customers have stated, this Is a Top Notch Establishment. First, when my wife and I went inside to the Hostess, the pleasant, charming atmosphere started, then to our table, the waitress was Great, so kind and informative, she was Super. We never wanted for anything...I so wish I had remembered her name. Then, the food, of from the appetizers to the main diner, it was Wonderful. There could have not been a better meal. Everyone at the table talked about the style, and atmosphere this place has. Now as to another plus for the Bernardin, the prices I think were a little to modest, understand I'm not complaining....but for what the price was for some of the plates, I don't see how. Which is a good thing for a consumer, but we also want them to stay in business... in a nutshell, Fabulous, can't wait to go back
Best food around and they have a beautiful new patio area.
Our reservation included information that our dinner was to be a birthday celebration for two of the four family members coming to dinner. Since there was a request for reason we were reserving a table, I assumed these family members would be recognized as a treat for them, but no mention was made by the staff. I appreciated the interesting entree choices and enjoyed trying a different protein and starch, but both were more bland than I anticipated and costly; although the price understandably reflected the probable high cost to import kangaroo meat. The major problem was the noise! The three people eating next to our table talked so loud we had trouble hearing our family members speak. We considered moving to another room in the restaurant, and regret we did not do so. For the expense this restaurant commands, people should be more aware of others around them and use courteous "inside voices". The noise level was more like a school cafeteria than a 5 star restaurant.
Our server really made our experience amazing, she was knowledgeable of the menu, polite, and didn't hound our table so we could celebrate our anniversary. Easily one of the best steaks we have eaten in Winston.
Great mix of French and Asian cuisine. Incredible wine list. Great professional servers. Sit outside if the weather cooperates!
Absolutely amazing in every way. The atmosphere, food, and last but not least the service. Every time we go we have an amazing time. While the food is on the higher end of the price scale. The flavors and presentation make it worth every penny. They take such care in preparation of every dish. And it's like traveling the world from your seat. I highly recommend this place to anyone that is a real foodie.
And on another note our server Brooke was absolutely great! This is the first time we had her as a server, but she blew me away! She was super attentive. Great with recommendations, and really made us feel welcome and went well above her normal duties to make sure we were taken care of. She is hands down probably one of the best servers I've ever had. I definitely will be asking for her the next time I return!
Thanks so much for a great birthday dining experience.
Oh and if you haven't had a chance, check out the outdoor patio dining. It's wonderful!
Bernardin’s was highly recommended to us and it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely amazing, especially the crab cakes and lobster ravioli.
The service was excellent and the whole ambiance of the restaurant was perfect for an intermit dinner.
We had not eaten at Bernardins for several months. We had always considered it very good. However, this visit was outstanding! The menu has been changed a bit and wine offerings included some moderately priced wines.
We were truly impressed with the food. The smoked salmon with wasabi cream sauce was superb. We had tuna and scallops both well prepared and presented. Bread pudding for desert was great.
This was complemented by excellent service from Corey who was quite attentive.
We certainly will be back soon.
We were very impressed on our recent date night at Bernardin's. We were seated outside on a beautiful evening and received excellent service. The food was exceptional and the open air space made for a wonderful evening. Would highly recommend.
Quiet, well lighted, excellent service, great food.
Food was not up to the standard of previous visits.
Very disappointed in the standard of the bathrooms.
Flexible when outdoor seating had to become indoor seating with a big storm. Great service and food was excellent.
Not even close to a five star experience, food is just ok.
Enjoyed the evening with friends.
I must have written a half dozen reviews on Bernardin's and am always happy to do it because the Lee family owns several restaurants in Winston Salem and the same high standards are always on display. They are a genuine asset to Winston-Salem. We happen to prefer Bernardin's at Zevely House because it is a block from our home, has the best outdoor dining I have experienced in urban America, a friendly and knowledgeable service staff and simply the best food in town. We have eaten at any number of good restaurants in Winston-Salem, but there is just something about Bernardin's at Zevely House that appeals to us over all the rest, as good as they might be. Now if they would just open a truly French restaurant, my life would be complete. Otherwise we will have to travel to Wilmington, about a four hour car trip, to eat at Caprice.
The Drumfish special was so delicious. I am still dreaming about it!
My new favorite. Everything about this restaurant was even better than expected. Will definitely return.
Excellent meal and service
Our waitress Brooke was amazing! The food was phenomenal as always and the drinks where fantastic. Such a great spot in town.
Always enjoy everything about it!
Out of a couple of things on the menu but what they did have was excellent. Server was great. Small martinis but excellently made
Showed up for or 8.30 pm. Hostess was great. Sat next to the bar and after a few minutes had to ask for somebody to help us.
Then, very quickly we were informed that the kitchen was closing at 9.00 and would be better for us to sit and order our food.
Being a Friday night, we didn’t want to be rushed and decided to pay for our drinks and go somewhere else to eat.
I wouldn’t say the service was rude but it was rushed and careless. For a restaurant like this it is unacceptable.
I don’t think I’ll be back.
Flexible seating and accommodating staff. Top quality food and wine offerings. Cooked to perfection. Flavorful but never overbearing dishes that delight the palate and satisfy.
The restaurant was beyond my expectations we were greeted with a welcoming smile and hello, the service was outstanding and the food was delicious (amazing) me and the ladies said we have to come back.
Fantastic food, excellent service; this restaurant continues to excel!
This is the best restaurant in the Greensboro area. Excellent menu, flavor and ambiance.
We loved sitting outside for dinner. It was quiet, beautiful, and of course, the food was delicious. This was our second time at Bernardin's, and we will go again!
Food very good but wait-staff not personable. Will give it another try sometime.
The service was extremely slow. Everything from beginning to end was a waiting game for service. I had planned on leaving a minimal tip for the bad service, but when I got the bill, a twenty percent tip had been handwritten in by Bernardin’s. So there is zero incentive for the waiter to do a good job. If you don’t mind hanging out at Bernardin’s a long, long time, and having a waiter that looks like his hates his life, this place might be alright.
This restaurant is not handicapped accessable. My party included two people with limited mobility who were forced to navigate over a treacherous path leading to the entrance, climb rickety steps to enter, and then climb a long flight of steep stairs to get to our table. (You can imagine how they felt after finally sitting down.) In this day and age, that is unconscionable! I shouldn't have to ask if a restaurant is ADA compliant -- in 2019, I should be able to assume it is. As my party's host, I was humiliated a chose a restaurant so unwilling to accommodate two special needs diners. This was a very bad experience.
Good food, cool environment, but certainly a little overrated.
The food is always excellent!
Lovely historic house, excellent food and service. The restaurant is divided into several rooms. both upstairs and down, so that you have a good chance of a quiet meal Because the house is old, restrooms are down some winding, uneven brick stairs, so be careful.
