Berimbau Do Brasil Ratings and Reviews
The food was very tasty. The dishes we selected were rich but fitting for a cold night. The waitresses were very nice and accomodating. Unfortunately, the maitre-d/host was less than friendly. We made a reservation via opentable and were less than 10 min late. After being asked to wait for several minutes, he came back telling us that we were more than 15 mins late and that he already gave our table away. We had to wait for another table for another 10 mins. The second thing that left an aftertaste was when we got a check, an automatic gratuity of 20% was added (the 20% was calculated on the total with tax and we were only 4 people). We were planning to leave a generous tip but being "forced" into a mandatory amount seemed quite unethical.
I was excited by all the rave reviews but not very impressed with the actual meal. Food was OK, but nothing special. I've eaten in many Brazilian restaurants in the US and in Brazil so I am familiar with the cuisine. Even the Caipirinha was uninspired. Service was terrific.
Based on other reviews, we gave Berimbau a try and were very pleased. We go out to eat a lot, as do our friends who dined with us, and all of us are still raving about how good the food was.
Couple that with a nice atmosphere (terrific Brazilian music in the background but not overwhelming) and friendly, relaxed service and we had a really terrific evening out.
My boyfriend and I tried all the Brazilian restaurants in NYC and we simply fell in love with Berimbau. They have *the real* Brazilian food for a fair price. Their menu is great and even the vegetarian stroganoff rocks ! Their caipirinhas are also the best ! We love this place .
Very good meal! Highly recommend the trio of empanadas, the special Brazilian bread, and the croquettes. Service was friendly and very happy to help make a recommendation based our tastes. Very bright and light restaurant - the lighting is adjusted as the night progresses to feel more intimate. Great Brazilian beer and really enjoyed the dry white wine. Highly recommend this place - I didn't even know if I liked Brazilian food before this visit! Careful when you are looking for it - it's a smaller store front!
Food was great. Waitress seemed like she would rather be doing something besides waiting on us. When I asked that she turn the over loud music down so my dinner companion and I could converse, she frowned but did lower the volume on the music. When I wanted the check, it took quite a while for me to get her attention.
I went to Berimbau with my Portuguese class. My students and I really enjoyed it! They were super friendly, and had a lot of patience while they took their orders. The environment was wonderful and the music added a special ambiance. The food was really good too, especially the p~ao de queijo! It felt like home!
I've been to Berimbau Do Brazil twice, once for lunch a year ago and once for dinner recently. In my experience, the servers have been super personable, fun and kind. They humored my bad attempts at pronouncing the food and taught me new words in Portuguese. They suggested the same cocktail both times I went and both times it was yummy and STRONG. The food is a little pricey for the portion size if you're aren't a big spender but certainly worth it. Going with friends we split the "cheesy bread" a skirt steak dish and a shrimp dish and it was a comfortable amount of food. There's lots of savory favors and the dishes were attractive. The ambiance is bright, pleasant and authentic but it can get a bit loud as the kitchen is open in the middle of the small space. I'll be trying to go back more often though!
terrific food and very creative. Though the place was small the table was comfortable. The skirt steak was the best i ever had and the collard greens were amazing for there flavor. We definitely would come back to this wonderful gem of a place. The service was excellent and the experience is definitely worth a return visit
The food is amazing. Good variety and totally Brazilian. The service is very warm with very nice hosts and the background music is perfect.
The restaurant is a little bit on the smaller size so make sure you book the table. But with this food... they should expand to a bigger place!
