I invited my leadership team (5 people including me) to a post-holiday celebration dinner. You're easy to get to and its a major bonus that you have parking! The service was great - attentive but not hovering. We shared appetizers/lite-bites. Excellent flavors, but only a few were shareable. You might want to think about adding more that are shareable. Entrees were fabulous - simple, with incredible flavor and texture! Yum! You have a great and varied cocktail/wine selection, so everyone was able find what they liked the most without needing to get a bottle for the table.
Dined here maybe 6-8 times and always enjoyed it. This was a less memorable visit -- we were seated in the Jetstream from the door on a cold night and, befitting the weather, our waiter was atypically cool and uncommunicative. The food, cocktails and wine were fine and the visits from the kitchen were friendly and informative.
Such an incredible disappointment! 8pm reservation; not a crumb of food arrived until 9:10pm - not even a piece of bread. One appetizer/soup was cold + foie gras was flavorless and overpowered by over-buttered/soggy toast + poached egg. Waited a long time for entree + one had to be sent back because it too was cold. Meat had more fat than meat. I said something to waitstaff + we were given a free glass of Granacha at end of meal. Frankly, should not have been charged for the entree; there was literally 3 edible bites. I NEVER write poor reviews but this experience was just all around bad + very pricey for being bad. I've been fortunate enough to eat in great inexpensive and expensive restaurants around the world + in Boston, where I now live. This will go down as one of the worst experiences I've had. Wait staff was extremely courteous + wine selections are wonderful. Too bad food doesn't come close to to their kindness and wine/cocktail list!
This was our 4th time at the Bergamot and it was unfortunately disappointing after previous great visits. The food was still good, we shared the duck appetizer and I had the salmon and both were great, although my wife's gnocchi was a little below expectations. Our biggest complaint was the service, and specifically our server. We had a total bill ~150 for 2 but at every interaction he was noticably displeased with us not ordering more or a pricier option. He was also not attentive, our wine came out after our appetizer was served and we waiting ~30 minutes after we were finished eating for plates to be cleared. After leaving we could only think about the server, not what we would expect for the bergamot. I'll be sticking to the Scott's back alley BBQ in the future.
While there are many good restaurants in Boston/Somerville area nowadays, few have the lasting quality of a European style restaurant's service, ambiance, and food quality. Bergamot is a restaurant you want to return to because it feels like home. Sophisticated service, great food, nice environment with just the right amount of noise and activity. I recommend it highly!
The bread was excellently crusty and chewy. The rabbit appetizer was stellar. Our main dishes were very nice, though the Osso Bucco was a bit under-seasoned and the monkfish could have done with more butternut purée, to last every bite of the monkfish. The chocolate dessert was another stand-out, rich and creamy and just sweet enough. Cocktail and wine list was impressive, and my husband was happy to see different types of Amaro on the menu. Nice ambiance, special enough for a celebration, and perfect for a date, as you can very comfortably hold a conversation. The chef/owner himself delivered some of the dishes, which was a nice touch.
It's my favorite restaurant in the Boston area. I can always find a dish that is delicious and really interesting without it being over complicated and pretentious. The bartender is a delight and the staff seem upbeat and glad to be contributing to people enjoying themselves. It's a gem.
Excellent experience - the drinks and food were great, and the atmosphere is warm and cozy and welcoming. Only slight negative was that the wait staff was a little overwhelmed, and would have benefitted from additional staff to handle the large volume. They were otherwise excellent. We will return.
I had cauliflower puttanesca. The taste combinations were excellent and imaginative. The serving was quite small. The wine list is very high-priced, and this is an issue the reatarant could easily address by having a few lower priced bottles. Service was really good. A nice restaurant that with a few tweaks could be a superb reatarant with good value.
Small portions, but decent food. Wish I tried the tasting menu, but the ravioli was definitley good, albeit small. My date had the duck ragu, which she liked, but was surprised that it was served cold. The House Pickles appetizer was good, as well as the Deviled Eggs. The Parmesean Black Pepper Butter served with sourdough bread was a nice highlight, as were the drinks we ordered. I had the La Pistola ( which if you like Mezcal is a great drink). I forgot what my date had, but she liked her drink as well. I would say this place is good, but will not knock you off your feet if you frequent restaurants often.
Our service was excellent, however. Servers were attentive and our food came fast. I am a fan of that... :)

The Pinot selection was very good
Food wasn’t great- hubs’ pork was super fatty (I mean, more than one expect one would expect). I ordered a weird pirogi/ravioli that was not very successful. That said, we still ended up having a nice time - they sent us over a glass of something bubbly and pink which made up for some of it
It’s the second time I’ve been dining with Bergamot and did the chef tasting menus. It was outstanding, the food arrived right at the perfect timing, service was fantastic, staff is very friendly the only thing is the I think the portions can be a bit bigger, especially my last meal last night was extremely small, there was one shrimp, 2 muscles and very little veggies in the whole dish. I understand the concept of chef’s tasting menu it this was especially small. Overall, highly recommended.
I honestly wasn't super-impressed. A lot of the menu was based on food that would normally get thrown away-- chicken livers, pig's ears, etc. I know this is trendy, but honestly to pay exorbitant prices for stuff that generally gets put into cat food seems a bit much to me. Also, the portions were ridiculously small for the price. My husband ordered gnocchi for his main dish, and he got about 6 tiny gnocchi and 10 tiny cauliflower florets. I ordered delicata squash and got two paper thin rings of squash with about a tablespoon of some pate.
The dessert was definitely the best part of the meal-- I got the smokey blue cheese plate and that was more substantial than my dinner.
I have had better tasting and more filling small dishes at Sarma-- ended up leaving full and paying less.
Went on Monday night and got lucky to be there for $1 oyster night. I believe they were from New Brunswick Canada; small to medium size oysters that were very fresh and had a nice brininess to them. Presentation with the Oysters sitting on top of bed of salt and being delivered by the Chef was a nice touch.
I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant immediately upon walking in. Server was prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. Wanted a smaller course so I ordered the chicken sausage appetizer with potatoes, rich sauce with great flavor all around. Wife had cheeseburger that was cooked to temp and enjoyable. Didn't have a chance for dessert but will be back to try the housemade pastas and other delicious dishes.
I entered that it was my anniversary but the waiter never acknowledged it. The steak was not to the standards I would usually get at this restaurant it was fatty and not all of the fat was rendered. I felt the sauce lacked enough seasoning. I felt disappointed that the experience was not as stunning as I usually receive when I have visited Bergamot in the past.
Reviews about Bergamot being great with dietary restrictions were the tipping factor to come here. But the kitchen dropped the ball. They were very gracious, however, about the redo of the duck confit gnocchi dish which was then enjoyable and creative. But my husband was finished with his before I got the redo, and had to watch me eat it. Then his ribeye was so tough that it was hard to cut. After having to send a dish back, he just suffered through. My swordfish was passing but underwhelming. The root vegetables side was very flavorful and tender.
The waiter seemed sullen the whole evening, and interaction felt awkward. But he was patient and helpful with figuring out a game plan, given my dietary restrictions. It was the kitchen that dropped the ball, not him.
We shared a caramel brownie dessert that was too cold to taste the full chocolate flavor until about half way through but then was rich and delicious. We also shared an apple fritter. It seemed we got the bad luck of the draw with an apple neglected edge piece that got baked more than the rest, so was very hard to cut and chew. Again we had already sent a dish back and didn't feel comfortable asking for another piece. The caramel sauce was decent. We skipped the ice cream bc of lactose intolerance.
Water service was almost too good until just before dessert. We were without water almost until the end of the dessert, when we finally could get the attention of our waiter. The water server had seemed to look at our glasses before dessert but never came back, and then seemed to be helping with other things across the dining room.
Finally, I had requested a quiet table and got seated in between 2 tables in the banquette seating area. We find it hard to enjoy ourselves when we feel like we are having dinner with 4 others. I don't think attention was paid to my open table requests bc the waiter also had not been informed about my dietary restrictions.
Great potential. A different night might go better.
We love the cocktails and often come to sit at the bar and have their very good burger along with the drinks. This time we went for the full experience. The drinks were incomparable and so was the food. Gnocchi with duck confit, a short rib dish and a lamb dish were every bit as good as the cocktails - try La Pistola a mezcal-based drink.
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and wanted to try a tasting menu. We were so pleased with our experience at Bergamot! We had five fabulous courses (for a very reasonable price) and the service was amazing. Our dessert course even had "happy anniversary" written on each plate! We'll definitely be back!
The new menu held very few options of interest for our group. Strongest item we tried was the shishito peppers with bread cheese--delicious! Service was friendly and helpful and the chef was able to prepare something off-menu for one person in our party with limited dietary options, which was much appreciated.
The food at Bergamot is creative and delicious at the same time. The chef clearly knows what to combine to appeal to the palette while letting the individual flavors peek through without taking over. It was a pleasure to be at a restaurant where it was possible to carry on a conversation with dinner partners.
