Great meal, great service, wonderful cocktails. Never disappointed!
The food was great. Apparently the menu changes and the chef had recently been to Miami so they offered a Miami style steak with black beens and fried plantains. Was tasty.
I ate at the bar but got a good look at the dining room, it was kind of wide open with freestanding tables. Didn't seem very intimate as you would be on the floor with everyone else in a big room. Even the bar was wide open to the rest of the floor. Seemed like they needed some separations between parts of the dining room to make it seem more special.
The service was skilled but kind of snobbish. Did get into conversations with other patrons and the bar staff and it started out good, but by the time I left I felt like I just didn't belong there, so I won't be recommending this place or going back.
Friendly, pleasant service. Very good food. Great variety of people enjoying themselves.
Great food, cozy atmosphere, and a wait staff that is out of this world.
Food was good, but excessively flavorful. I prefer simpler food with natural taste of what you eat, not what spies and saucers give you. Although the size of meals was excessively modest, my stomach was slightly upset next morning. I would recommend this restaurant for creative cuisine, but definitely not as a place to feed your self.
Easter brunch. Food was uninspired. Every app and entrée on toast/bread, which added to the dullness of the food. The Bloody Mary was awful. I was going to send it back, but waitress didn't come to table that much and I couldn't find her. Had to chase her down to get refill on coffee.
The desserts were good......actually very good. So it wasn't all that bad.
Delightful and surprising dishes, well described by our excellent server. We will return soon!
My husband and I used to go to this restaurant since we started dating 7 years ago. This past Saturday it was our wedding anniversary and we chose to go back to it.. We always liked it because of their artistic ways of cooking. But this time!! The quantity was so little that my husband who is lean and does not eat much went back home hungry!!!! It was barely enough for me so I can imagine how little it was for my husband!!! They care now more about the presentation for stupid pictures and I understand that it is "Gourmet" food but still!!! the prices and quantities will let you go home both hungry and angry!!! I don't mind paying, but if i am paying that much I'd rather go back to my bed feeling satisfied and not still hungry!! got salty too so!!! so hungry, thirsty and angry that night.. We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 main course and two desserts.. STILL!!!!
Bergamot is one of the restaurants that my wife and I like for special occasions, like birthdays. We enjoyed the food and the wine at this meal, and our server.
Service was outstanding. I used a groupon for a 5 course tasting menu which I didn’t know needed advance notice but they were happy to accommodate us nonetheless with the chefs approval. It was absolutely delicious. The steak was mouth watering. Servers were attentive and we were not rushed in any way. It was a delicious meal and a nice experience.
Pleasant looking space, nice vibe, nice staff. Crab tagliatelle had good flavor, but barely a tablespoon of crab in it. Monkfish not hot enough. Sauces and vegetables flavorful . Dessert list a bit dull.
The tasting menu was outstanding solicitous service and impeccable dessert chai pannacotta was delicious
Would definitely go again
Nice place not far from Sanders Theatre. INvesntive cuisine, and friendly attentive service. Great cocktails.
This is a wonderful neighborhood spot for special occasion dining - with very friendly staff. The food is delicious, creative and presented well. There's a nice wine list and creative cocktails as well. The noise level is low and seating is not crowded, which is nice.
This was our first dinner at Bergamot but we will definitely be back! The restaurant is charming and the food and service (especially the bar service) was excellent! The swordfish was perfectly cooked and enjoyed the unique wine selection.
HOME COOKING
If you feel like going out for dinner and eating what you could have cooked yourself, this is the place. We were floored when the waiter brought bread and said "this is seven grain from Whole Foods."
Service, as always, was amazing. Food is always memorable. Great staff. Fun atmosphere. Always recommend for a knock out experience.
Server really was not friendly. Made the experience less enjoyable.
Waitstaff made our dinner special, with informed discussion and suggestions for the food and wines.
Very pleasant ambiance: We could easily hear our own table conversation, but not other people's dinner conversations.
Food was incredible! We loved the experience and that food was even better than the reviews said. We enjoyed dessert too, it was on point. Will definitely go back!
Another excellent meal at Bergamot. Limited but creative menu, very nice presentation, interesting combinations. On a Sunday evening the service was slow in the dining room but all hands pitched in and courses were served by any available staff. Lively scene at the bar where the bartenders were engaged with patrons to the point that those at tables waited some time for their beverages. That was the only negative. Both the lamb with Israeli couscous, preserved lemon, olives and muhamarra & grilled swordfish with escarole, fingerlings, red onion & salsa verde were delicious and portioned just right. Our diners Birthday was acknowledged and in addition to a greeting as part of the dessert presentation, Bergamot offered a nifty little package of their own tea blend as a take home gift. It had been some time between visits but we were very pleased to note that Bergamot has maintained a high standard for unique and delicious offerings of food and drink.
Everything was amazing! We ordered the chefs choice 5 course tasting dinner and everything was fabulous.
Food excellent, as usual. 2 of us had swordfish; one turbot. Fried Brussels sprouts also a hit. Service at Bergamot usually excellent. I eat there a few times a year, enough to be familiar-but not enough to be a regular---and to have high expectations. The food was up to its usual very high standards, but the service was not. An off night?
Kind patient helpful staff
Delicious tasting menu
Great crafted drinks
Third visit will come back !
Small servings bc many courses exquisite flavors!!
I love Bergamot. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston. The food is always very on point, and they have tasty cocktails. The service is very good. My only complaint was they accidentally over-charged us for our meal (entered our tasting menu in twice), but they corrected it without any issue when we brought it to their attention.
Appetizer, entree were good. The chocolate tart dessert was a little too salty. I also got not one, but two paper cuts from the paper table cover. Also, my cocktail came in a glass with water drips all around the insides that looks like it had just been rinsed. It wasn’t dirty, but just seems a little sloppy.
By now a neighborhood stalwart, the food is always very well prepared, if not the most inventive or original. The staff are a pleasure and always engaged to the perfect level. I wouldn't necessarily make this a special night out, but I would absolutely count on it for a cozy dinner at the bar with a friend. And they do rate a special place for introducing me to the Roman style gnocchi, which I had never seen nor tasted. Ask about them before assuming you know what they are, but they are tasty!
Bergamont is one of our favorite places to take out of town friends. It never fails to deliver on a delicious, cozy experience.
We tried the Chef tasting menu. Gorgeous presentation and excellent food. Combinations of food imaginative and delicious. Only "ding" is waitstaff reached across table multiple times for re-filling water or putting plates down/picking up.
Our first time there--and it was superb. Great bar as well as the menu.
My favorite restaurant in the Boston area.
My only criticism is the music which played over our table. I found it distracting. I just don't understand why people need it if we are there to be with friends or a friend and savor good wine and food.
This is the second time we have been to Bergamot. We were here a couple of years ago and both times we have the tasting menu. And despite the time in between, the food at Bergamot remains excellent. Both our fish and meat dishes were cooked to perfection and the salads and appetizers are innovative and refreshing. During this visit, we asked that they substitute another dish for our dessert and they provided another salad dish without extra charge. The waitress recommended a burgundy wine which went quite well with dinner. They had some problem with their charge card machine and our departure was delayed but the wait staff was pleasant enough that we did not mind the wait. We find Bergamot quite a value considering the sophistication of the food preparation and the number of dishes they served for the tasting menu . The neighborhood is at a relatively busy interaction in Somerville but they own a nearby parking lot so parking is not a problem. The restaurant décor is simple so it is not overly stuffy for a formal restaurant. We really enjoy dining here.
Great night out with another couple, and there is parking around the corner. We sat next to window which was a little cool in January.
I invited my leadership team (5 people including me) to a post-holiday celebration dinner. You're easy to get to and its a major bonus that you have parking! The service was great - attentive but not hovering. We shared appetizers/lite-bites. Excellent flavors, but only a few were shareable. You might want to think about adding more that are shareable. Entrees were fabulous - simple, with incredible flavor and texture! Yum! You have a great and varied cocktail/wine selection, so everyone was able find what they liked the most without needing to get a bottle for the table.
I went with a friend on New Years Eve. The food and service were excellent! Having said that, $115 was a bit steep, even for six courses. It was a special occasion, so we treated ourselves but I do think a little less expensive would have been appreciated.
Started off strong but went south. Usually a great meal but wasn't up to par. Too saucey, too much apple, pine nuts. Scallop dish didn't make sense. Chestnut cake was underwhelming.
This place is becoming my favorite fine dining place. Surprisingly it's jus friendly and I brought my 2 year old daughter rice and had good experience both times.
Dined here maybe 6-8 times and always enjoyed it. This was a less memorable visit -- we were seated in the Jetstream from the door on a cold night and, befitting the weather, our waiter was atypically cool and uncommunicative. The food, cocktails and wine were fine and the visits from the kitchen were friendly and informative.
Excellent service...waaaay too skimpy on portions. Pleasant atmosphere
Such an incredible disappointment! 8pm reservation; not a crumb of food arrived until 9:10pm - not even a piece of bread. One appetizer/soup was cold + foie gras was flavorless and overpowered by over-buttered/soggy toast + poached egg. Waited a long time for entree + one had to be sent back because it too was cold. Meat had more fat than meat. I said something to waitstaff + we were given a free glass of Granacha at end of meal. Frankly, should not have been charged for the entree; there was literally 3 edible bites. I NEVER write poor reviews but this experience was just all around bad + very pricey for being bad. I've been fortunate enough to eat in great inexpensive and expensive restaurants around the world + in Boston, where I now live. This will go down as one of the worst experiences I've had. Wait staff was extremely courteous + wine selections are wonderful. Too bad food doesn't come close to to their kindness and wine/cocktail list!
