Bentwood Tavern Ratings and Reviews
The location of Bentwood Tavern is beautifully located on the docks of Lake Michigan, which provides a great view from inside the restaurant. The appetizer and entree menu is unique in options, but also has some everyday go-to's to accommodate every palate. The amount of food on the plate is perfect; not too much, not too little. The Bangkok Chicken and cucumber salad was amazing! Great atomsphere for a group of 10 or less. Wine, beer and cocktail menu had great options as well.
We were delayed and arriving later than our reservation so I called Bentwood to let them know. The hostess couldn't have been kinder or more accommodating and changed our reservation by 30 minutes. Our waiter was wonderful, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. We love so many things on the menu that it's always difficult to choose. We sometimes go with favorites, or we venture out to try new menu items. Either way, it's a win! I took a moment when we were leaving to let the manager know what a great job the hostess did in accommodating our late arrival. The staff did an outstanding job and we had a wonderful evening.
Made reservations here after spending the day on the very nice New Buffalo Beach. The decor leading up to the entrance of the Tavern was modern retro, the decor inside the Tavern just seems retro and in need of updating, new colors and overall a different vibe. We were seated right away even though we arrived earlier than our reserved time. My wife had the fish and chips and I had the Bangkok chicken. The Bangkok chicken was very very good. I likes everything about the dish, ESPECIALLY the cucumber salad! It is the best I have ever had. The fish and chips were also very good with the exception of the coleslaw, it was horrendous. Without exception, the worst I have ever had. I am hoping it was just a bad batch. It also seemed the menu was limited and expanding the choices would have huge benefits. Our server, Kathleen, was very very good. Especially near the end of the meal when I sat my lemonade down and bumped my water glass which exploded like it had been hit by a hammer. The first words out of her mouth was to ask if we were alright and to make sure neither of us had been hit by flying glass. Will we return? Yes, for the Cucumber salad.
We have a weekend home in New Buffalo, and use OpenTable to plan ahead and make reservations.
Unfortunately, the past two times, we have had mishaps using it at Bentwood.
Last time, we received a notification that we missed our reservation. We had to respond with a copy of our receipt for the evenings meal.
Last night, we showed up at the reservation time, only to be told that they had no record of the reservation.
We were able to pull it up on our IPhone to prove that we in fact had a reservation.
After some conversation, they did accommodate us.
I would suggest that if you make
We absolutely LOVE going to Bentwood!!
The foos is phenomenal and you can't beat the waterfront views!! So far we have been here a couple times & have not been disappointed. Highly recommend reservations. The only downside I would have to say is the noise level sometimes because it is a smaller place. Well worth the drive. They also have a joint hotel as well.
Our server had a lot of tables that were seated within a half hour but this did not deter her from checking on us and providing a detailed explanation of the specials. Our orders came out as expected and were very hot - as well as delicious. The dining room was loud but at our small table our conversation was easy to overcome it. Overall it was a good value for what we ordered.
Saturday night dinner to celebrate our wedding Anniversary. It is an hour drive for us. But, we sure enjoyed.
Service was very good. Wine list was way above average, better then some in Chicago. Food was very good.
Only downfall was a bachelorette party in the dining room. So, an already active space, sound-wise, was fairly loud. We walked around the docks and the near silence was a marked difference.
