About Bentley's Grill - The Grand Hotel in Salem
Bentley's Grill offers comfortable fine dining in an elegant atmosphere in the heart of downtown Salem. The menu features Northwest ingredients with items to include fresh seasonal seafood, artfully presented salads or a choice steak like our Filet Mignon served with a Forest Mushroom Demi Glace. Our show kitchen offers an opportunity to see our chefs at work. Service is friendly and knowledgeable, serving clientele ranging from professionals to families with children. Bentley's lounge and wine bar is an incredible place to unwind from a busy day or to relax in the company of friends. Our bar features the Willamette Valley's largest array of premium liquors. Bentley's wine bar has a state of the art wine-keeper using nitrogen to keep open wine bottles fresh and oxygen free, and over 40 wines by the glass and 200 by the bottle.

Our food was excellent, everyone thought their meal was very good. We have been here a number of times and it actually seems to be getting better. The only complaint if you can call it that was the noise level was a little too high for us to enjoy our meal. We were sitted in the middle by the fire and really struggled to hear our small group speak.
We have been to Bentley's quite a few times and never disappointed. The chef and servers are very customer focused. One of our party wanted to change out the sauce on an Alfredo/Chicken pasta dish and it not only was no problem but the marinara was excellent.

Even with a reservation it took 20 minutes to get a table and the server showed up after another 15 minutes. The Boursin was excellent but the balance of the meals was mediocre and the $31 steak was tougher than shoe leather . . . My advice is go somewhere else!
For the price of the food, dinner salads really should be included with the meals. We came here for our anniversary and were slightly disappointed. I think our expectations were high because it seemed like a fancy place to dine. I would say that it was only "okay".
One of my favorite spots for dinner and conversation, but I am especially glad when I can get a quiet booth by the window, which I request and usually get by setting up a reservation on OpenTable. The menu is does have a lot of items that have been on the menu for years (Bentley burger, and their seafood chowder) because they are good and favorites, and the menu doesn't have a large number of choices, but I can always find something I like. The Harissa Steak Salad is one of the newer items, yummy, for about $16
I had big expectations for Bentley’s as I truly ll bowl of clam chowder) it was nothing spectacular. I’ve had better salad at Applebee’s. I ordered light because I had every intention of ordering dessert as it was my birthday, yet I was not offered anything other than my check, which was offered midway through my salad. My server did always make sure my glass was filled, yet I come from a background in customer service so it was not great not terrible. Overall the place is beautiful but the food and service was not what I remember and not worth the price. Unfortunately I will not be coming back or recommending to friends.
Great location for meeting friends by the fire pit. Smoked Mac and cheese is the best. The service was really accommodating and friendly. I did have difficulty understanding how to reserve a table on line for more than 2 people. I ended up going back in to the reservation system after I received initial email confirmation and was able to edit the number of diners. The system was not very intuitive and seems to operate different each time I use it.
We arrived promptly for our six o'clock reservation to find the reception area clogged as the computer had failed (What? No backup?). We noted that all the booths on the fireplace level - where we had requested a booth - were filled. The harried receptionist apologized profusely but said she no options following the computer foul-up. When I noted two large tables with reserved signs in the area, and questions their status, she offered something about large groups were noted differently, etc. She then offered a small two chair table in a hallway where we could wait for a booth there to clear. I noted that booths along the front window aisles were vacant. She then offered us any one of those booths and would comp us an appetizer and each of us a drink for the trouble.
From then on things went very nicely as she (I don't recall her name) had informed our waitress Jamie of the situation.
The service was prompt, the food was delivered on time, hot and well presented. My wife's fillet and my rib-eye were cooked perfectly and, I must say, my ordering the rib-eye was a risk as their quality in Salem is rarely good, was the best experienced around here. We were not rushed with time to enjoy the complimentary birthday desert and a shared coffee nudge.
We were both able to thank our waitperson and the receptionist for a quality level response to a business foul-up.
Driving down from Seattle to take my parents out for a special dinner on their 52nd wedding anniversary. Although the food presentation was not notable, the food was amazing. I ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer. Large cakes which could actually be split between 2 people, but why? Filet mignon tasted so delicious. I did order it med/rare and it came more med to med/well, but was still soft, moist and delicious. My dad had the blackened snapper which he was very happy with. Mom had the chicken fettuccine, which was also great. Cocktail list had great options, wine list was lengthy as well. I will definitely visit again and next time share with my husband. Very satisfied visitor.
The wait-staff was very attentive. We were seated in a good area for the time of day: still light out and we were next to a window.
I had my favorite Korean Chicken Lettuce Wraps and I added Baked Goat Cheese and Romesco. Super!
It was easy to make a reservation on line, too.
Environment was very welcoming, great wine list! Good for romantic date nights. Everything was great until our entrees came. The meat was very undercooked (which was later explained that is their policy). I would suggest to explain that when ordering meat. My medium cooked ribeye was still bloody which was very noticeable from the plate. Should have been pink with no blood. Side Veggies were cut in thin 2inch long portions where one half was warm and the other half was ice cold (bf confimed different temps). Brought up to server but It is made in bulk amount that top of pan got cold while to bottom was warm so when served it mixed the cold veggies with warm. Definitely a place to try but at least get advised on their meat policy to not be disappointed later. I am willing to try it again as I been told their are switching their menu soon.
We celebrated our eighth anniversary this weekend. Most of our anniversary dinners have been at Bentleys ... which really says more about the arid Salem restaurant scene than anything else. We have no complaints but Bentley's remains a Salem restaurant with Portland pretentions and prices.
Food had no flavor extremely bland for that kind of money , The food should have been a party in my mouth . Don't bother looking at the online menu they have posted because it in no way reflects the actual menu. The actual menu is less than half of what is posted online very sad
