About Bennett's Chop & Railhouse
In every city, there is a natural gathering spot for city folk and neighborhood people in the know. This place in Saint Paul is know as Bennett's Chop & Railhouse. Located on West Seventh & Victoria, it is the perfect meeting place of uptown and downtown, of quiet neighborhood and big city lights.
It's called a chophouse because it specializes in a casual steakhouse atmosphere with top-of-the-line cuts of the finest meats. It is a Rail-house because it is on the old railroad line serving the city and rail drinks (as well as top brands) are served in the convivial atmosphere of the horseshoe bar.
And of course Bennett's is Bennett's because owners Joe and Meghan Bennett ensure that welcoming hospitality is always served. They have taken their decades of experiences with leading hospitality brands and translated it into an intimate venue where you're not only a customer, but more importantly, a welcome guest.

Bennett's Chop & Railhouse Ratings and Reviews
There's not too many places around anymore that offer all the crab legs you can eat. Bennett's does on Friday nights. I have been there several times. This time the crab legs were terrible. They were so salty my tongue was burning. My table date ended up getting sick after dinner and was not doing well all night long. Our waiter Cory was absolutely the best! He offered me a different meal which I decided to try. It 2 had a lot to improve on. Seabass was swimming in oil or butter and was rubbery. Cory took everything off my bill and even bought me a cocktail. We will go back but unfortunately I'm going to have to find a new place for crab legs. I highly suggest there chop salad.
We had a lovely Valentine's Day Dinner. The restaurant was packed but neither the service or quality of food was negatively impacted in the slightest. They offered their usual full menu and several specials. It was wonderful. Unless you need white table cloths I don't know why you would choose a different chop house!
We decided to spend Valentine's Day at Bennett's and we're so glad we did. The food was tremendous (and very reasonably priced), the specials were inventive, my steak was grilled to absolute perfection and our server (Andy, I believe?) was incredibly attentive, knew the menu inside and out and timed the delivery of our meals perfectly.
A fantastic experience. We'll be back.
Good start to our night, but not so much in the end. They have a small anti room to keep the cold out, but need a heavy curtain by the second door. The nearest tables freeze. Then the waitress raved about the carrot cake only to tell us they were out of it. Then in fact were out of ALL their deserts, even ice cream. Did not offer anything except sorry. Parking is horrible when they do a shuttle to Wild games.
Based on the menu and how the restaurant looked on Open Table, I was surprised that it was so old. The entrance seemed run down, the clientele all seemed be over 60, and it did not look like a place you’d go for a $35 steak or scallops. It seemed like a neighborhood restaurant and bar that had been around for 50 years. We almost went elsewhere, but decided to give it a try.
That being said, our food was good. The service was good. We had crab cakes, a bison burger and sliders. The fries were amazing!
Celebrating our anniversary and sister's birthday after a long day at Super Bowl activities. The restaurant is so comfortable and the menu is so extensive that it has something for everyone. We have never been disappointed. The hostess' and wait staff are superior. They are always friendly and service is prompted. The atmosphere is relaxed so you don't feel rushed.
First, we tried the Brusetta, the Rueben Rolls and the Crab Cakes. All three were very good. For lunch we all ordered the Chicken Pot Pie. The flakey crust was excellent as was the inside of the Pie. For dessert we had the 3 Fruit Tart. That was excellent as well. I would recommend everything we had.
Food is good, price is reasonable, nice portions. Service was disappointing. A couple next to us actually got up and left when they hadn’t been waited on for a long period. Servers were pleasant but tried to take our plates by grabbing them and then asking if we were finished. We had only had our meal for a short period and were obviously still eating. Would go back if service improved.
Did the all you can eat snow crab leg. Kind of pricey. $37.95 but it was good and it comes with sides. Service was good. It's always plus when service is good. To me it's really important to have good food and good service. Good service really makes up for a some bad things. Not saying this place was bad but in general.
We went here for NYE because we had been here a couple of years ago and the food was good. Drinks were fairly priced and the service was good. It was the same this time. The place is small for the number of tables. I had to return my steak because it was not done enough, but this was promptly corrected.
Not much for ambiance, but the food is outstanding. My favorite is the seafood pot pie. It is out of this world!
Also a great place for those of us that want to keep an eye on sports while dining. TV's allow for viewing from almost any seat in the place. Street parking is available and convenient.
My boyfriend and I frequent this restaurant often however this visit and our last the steaks were not done as well, or to our liking, as in previous visits. Mine was overdone for a "medium" filet and his was underdone for a "medium" NY Strip. His was also a really tough cut - not nearly as tender as in our initial visits. We were hoping for consistency and that this would be our new St. Paul steak place but I fear we may be looking for another place - for steaks that is. (Mancini's used to be the place, but that too has gone done hill). We shall give this another shot for the "three strikes and you're out" type of deal. I do highly recommend this restaurant for their brunch, however. Delicious and scrumptious options all the way around!!!
Great experience. I commented about how nice it was to be able to see in the restaurant. They had their Christmas lights up...I wish they would leave them up. In fact it was the first time I noticed how beautiful the wood floors were...I never noticed them before because you could never really see them due to it being so dark normally.
