Bennett's Chop & Railhouse
It's called a chophouse because it specializes in a casual steakhouse atmosphere with top-of-the-line cuts of the finest meats. It is a Rail-house because it is on the old railroad line serving the city and rail drinks (as well as top brands) are served in the convivial atmosphere of the horseshoe bar.
And of course Bennett's is Bennett's because owners Joe and Meghan Bennett ensure that welcoming hospitality is always served. They have taken their decades of experiences with leading hospitality brands and translated it into an intimate venue where you're not only a customer, but more importantly, a welcome guest.
We were on vacation and decided to check it out. Half priced burgers on Thursdays and our waitress was very helpful and nice!
The noise level can be a bit loud. The food here is outstanding. The steaks are cooked to perfection.
First time visit to Bennett's Chophouse. The food was great, I had the sirloin and my wife had the lobster. Service was fast and friendly, and the prices were reasonable. Will definitely be back!
Great food, great, personalized service, comfortable environment.
The scallops were amazing!! The best I have ever had!! Wife had the prime rib special and it was excellent.
Favorite St. Paul Restaurant.
Craved a good Steak and they delivered. The ribeye was juicy and flavorful without the salty/sodium injected taste. The New York Strip was thick and tasty. The service was perfect, friendly and laid back.
If you are looking for a great steak or top notch burger at a decent price, this place has you covered. Been here three times and everything they bring out is nothing less than delicious.
Great steaks, decent price, fun and rowdy bar crowd, which is fine if you know that's what you're getting. Only negative was one of our steaks was seriously undercooked, but our server saw how rare it was when she was walking by and immediatly offered to get it fixed, which was nice. Definitely will come back
Perfect spot to grab drinks and dinner before seeing a show at the Xcel Center! The free shuttle was awesome!
Everything about this restaurant is great.
I had a reservation at least 3 weeks in advance. They did have the reservation but the hostess that greeted us was very rude. She took us to a large booth, I asked her for a table, that had a tablecloth since they were all empty. She said the booths are for 6 and people were coming in 5 minutes for the other tables. Very snippy. I watched and no one came for the tables and they broke them up to seat smaller groups.
Our waitress was very pleasant and friendly. I had to send my steak back because I ordered medium and it was cold and red on the inside.
This is one of those iconic neighborhood places all should try. It most certainly has an element of locals that frequent the place and watching the camaraderie there is neat. The food was good and the service was great- very friendly as well. We didn't think the steaks were stellar tasting, which was kind of implied in reviews. But the food was still good and it was a fun experience. And while people may not go there just for these - the fries were fantastic.
Don't let the looks of this establishment fool you, this is a top notch gem. Their steaks are prepared perfectly and the flavor is spectacular. The salad that comes with your meal is fabulous. This is in my top five places to dine.
Kinda of a secret jewel off the beaten path. Staff was very knowledgeable and gave great attention our group.
noisy relaxed fun atmosphere. drinks were great, service outstanding. my chicken sandwich was tasty, but the texture was almost crunchy...ok for a fried breast, not so much for a grilled breast.
Hit or miss with every adventure here
We had a reservation at 6 p.m. . They took us right to our table with no wait. The noise level was so loud that we had to scream our order to the server. the food is good we will be back.
Great time before Cher concert!
Great food & service. Not much parking. Kind of loud inside - we had a hard time hearing our dinner conversation.
We really like this place. A great neighborhood supper club. Cocktails were outstanding and the food was very tasty. Small venue which was nice and white linen tablecloths classed up the joint. We were seated close to the bar so it was noisy. We have sat in the adjoining dining area previously where the noise levels were better. We will definitely go back.
Bennett’s food is always consistent and great. We have found it to be our “go to” place based on the food , value and variety. Shrimp wrapped with bacon- yum! Chopped salad is wonderful as is the filet. 007 Martini is also a favorite. Servers are all very nice and accommodating. Andi is a gem!
Excellent food and service. The house chop salad and au gratin potatoes are amazing side dishes.
Steak was medium rare NOT medium well as ordered. Ribs were cold. Chicken was dry to the point of better serve a pitcher of water with it to choke it down. At least mom enjoyed her Lobster (after all it was mothers day)with the exception of a cold underdone potato. With as much as we spent on the meal kind of expected it to be better. Think its going to be a long time before we return.
Had to wait a long time for the kitchen to open up. At first the waitress wasn't happy about answering questions, The bacon for the hamburger was totally black burnt to a crisp. On the plus side the loaded French fries were really good.
Excellent. Great mix on brunch buffet, quality entrees, nice service, and a comfy welcoming environment.
Great spot for a romantic couple's birthday celebration!
Great choice for good good and great service in a casual environment . Can be noisy if a game day or in softball season.
Went before a concert and were pleasantly surprised to find out they have a shuttle to the Excel Energy center...awesome!
Food was fantastic!
The food was great, drinks terrific and our server was wonderful!
Great place to celebrate the graduate. With a group of 12 with very different food tastes Bennett's provided something for everyone. And those martinis!!!
This was the second time we had came. The first time it was wonderful. Not so much this experience. It was extremely loud in there. The food was just alright. We were very disappointed.
Our server was extremely slow. Ran out of the prime rib, Michelob Golden light, and lava cake dessert. And that was at 7:30 p.m.. ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp it was a smallest shrimp I had seen and four of them for an insane amount of money. and the owner was drunk at the bar he should have been at the store getting the stuff he ran out
The food selection is very good, my dinner was good, nice and hot. We were seated right next to the bar so it was very cramped and VERY noisy. Next time I will ask to sit as far from the bar as possible. It was hard to even hear the waitress.
The walleye app was excellent, the sirloin was cooked to my perfect Pittsburgh style but the wings and ribs were so-so. Service was excellent and timely. Super loud on a Friday night at 7:00
My wife and I waited for ~40 minutes before we got menus or drinks. After that, the service was consistent.
Went for Easter Brunch expecting cooked to order breakfast and was pleasantly surprised to find a Easter Brunch-Buffet set up. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Bloody Marys were impressive too. I recommend this restaurant. I have been there before Wild games too and the food was very good.
Overall we enjoyed Bennett's. We had a reservation at 7pm but ended up sitting at the bar for our meal. Our bartender/server was AMAZING. She kept us refilled and was so nice and friendly. The one thing I will say for the service was I waited for quite some time for someone to help me at the front. I wanted to check in for our reservation and let them know we were at the bar. I stood there for almost 10 minutes before one of the waitresses came over. 2 waitresses for the restaurant on a Sunday night is probably too few.
The food overall was fine. I got the salmon with crab sauce-it was pretty salty and no sign of crab. The rest of our group seemed to like their food fine.
We've been to Bennett's before and while the service has always been less than desirable, the price is good and the food is too. I would recommend for a cheaper steakhouse.
It looks like a tiny place from the outside, but looks can be deceiving! Our waitress was kind of "old school," and she warmed up to us once she realized we weren't precious snowflakes or hipster/scenesters with an attitude. They have a huge Martini list, although their definition of Martini is rather broad. For example, I don't consider a Cosmopolitan to be a Martini. While I was deciding what drink to order, my husband got a Bloody Mary. It was SO GOOD I decided to order one also! I ordered a Pilsner beer to go with it (I believe it was a local beer that she recommended, but I can't remember the name.) It came in an ale glass with the Hamm's bear logo, so we purchased two of them! We got both their Lenten fish special. The fish was fairly standard: I wasn't knocked-out by it. However, the fries that came with it were the best I have ever eaten. Unfortunately, she told me they only serve those fries during the Lenten fish special. I wish that was their standard fries! Next time we go- and there will definitely be a next time- we are going to try one of their steak dinners, which I guess they are known for. I have already recommended this place to a workmate who loves a good Bloody Mary who lives in St Paul. We live in Minneapolis, but it was worth the drive!
Dirty glasses, had lipstick on it. Food was mediocre at best. Way over priced.
Six of us were in town for the Final Four and chose this little place for a simple breakfast. It was very much like the nice little places I grew up going to in western Pennsylvania where I grew up. Simple, easy, homey, and made to order. Thanks!
