Bennett's Chop & Railhouse
It's called a chophouse because it specializes in a casual steakhouse atmosphere with top-of-the-line cuts of the finest meats. It is a Rail-house because it is on the old railroad line serving the city and rail drinks (as well as top brands) are served in the convivial atmosphere of the horseshoe bar.
And of course Bennett's is Bennett's because owners Joe and Meghan Bennett ensure that welcoming hospitality is always served. They have taken their decades of experiences with leading hospitality brands and translated it into an intimate venue where you're not only a customer, but more importantly, a welcome guest.
Was disappointed in having reservations and we were told our table was just inside the front door where it was cold draft blowing in every time door opened with customers entering. For the large cost for 2 mediocre dinners I am not sure we will come back. Been there several times the past few years and quite literally I was disappointed in our table layout. Not the best way to maintain a strong return customers in that manner.
Great burgers, friendly helpful server. Used bus service to the hockey game and the ride-catching both ways was really easy!
My dad’s birthday
this visit was much better than our last one, i was so happy to have Corey as our server - he's excellent. I had the scallop risotto (i order this often) and the scallops were overcooked, too much balsamic and asparagus was overcooked. The other meals were good. appetizers were excellent.
This was my first time at Bennett's. We will be back!
We had a large group. Appetizers wlaseye fingers, beef yips, shrimp and fries. Fries were very overcooked. As was the chicken on my salad and the wontons. Two if us had salads. Very disappointed. Only iceberg lettuce, supposed to have carrots and green onion which I didn't find. Friend had the salmon salad. Expecting a piece of grilled salmon. Thanks salmon was shredded and cold. Other dishes were steak, chicken sandwich and crab cakes which people said we're good. Loppy leprechaun and mint chip martinis for dessert. Loppy had a flavored vodka in it not plain as described. Mint chip was ok.
Kind of a disappointment. Luckily most if us aren't super picky about our food.
Excellent steaks. Service was friendly and prompt. The atmosphere is a combination of a white-tablecloth place and a dive bar. But it is great!
Brought some friends here for their first time. They really enjoyed their dinner and will be adding Bennett’s to their list of restaurants.
We had 6:30 reservations and you were out of the special and out of the prime rib. We were a table of 4 and all ordered the filet - there were only 3 left and one took another option. I asked for the same price and she said yes. It was all very good food - steaks done to perfection.
We had a party of seven for a friends birthday. Our table was ready when we arrived and we had great service throughout the night. Our food was outstanding, everyone enjoyed their meal. Every steak was cooked perfectly, the pork chops were excellent and the salmon was excellent. I highly recommend Bennett’s.
My husband and I go to Bennett’s for dinner occasionally on the weekends. Most recent trip was my birthday dinner, as I was craving crab legs, and they offer AYCE on Friday nights (hubby got a steak). We had a 7pm reservation and were seated right away near the bar (dining room tables were full). It is pretty loud near the bar. Our waitress was very pleasant. The negative side of this visit is that we had to wait almost an hour for our entrees. It was busy for dinner and there were at least 2-3 Bite Squad or Door Dash employees that came and left to retrieve takeout while we waited. Our waitress kept checking on us, promising the food would come out soon. The food was good, but we had to call our babysitter, who thankfully didn’t mind us being late. We’ve never waited that long for food there in the past. Not sure if they were short staffed in the kitchen, or just need more workers during busy times.
Shannon, our server was TERRIFIC. Portion size extremely generous.
Had the prime rib, it was a bit overdone from the medium rare that was requested, it was more like medium. It was still very good. Husband had scallops and was disappointed that the risotto was really watery. The scallops were great but the risotto was watery and bland. Usually food is outstanding but this was a miss for us. Seafood potpie that was served but was a bit burnt on top so she just did not eat that portion of the top. Kids food seemed to be all fine.
Excellent meal...we really enjoyed the experience!
Emily was fantastic. She was on the spot at every turn. She had to deal with the Younghans family which was 10 of us and was the best.
Hard to hear spot, that does have good food and good service. Background music added to difficulty hearing.
First time at this place and can’t wait to go back again!
Bennett’s never disappoints! The gem of St. Paul!
The beer cheese burger and homemade fries were delicious!
Had a good dinner, really was happy with the shuttle to the game... Extra value, nice job
Food is always top quality! Service it's always excellent as well.
The food was great. Very loud / noisy.
They were very accommodating with their shuttle service to our downtown Saint Paul event. Cajun pasta and chopped salad was tasty.
We had a 7:15 reservation. We got there at 7:05 and was told we would be seating in 10 minutes. We wanted until 7:35 to be seated. I understand that restaurants get busy but to have to wait 20 minutes past our reservation to be seated is rediculus. They never once came and said they were sorry or that they were waiting for a table to open up. I had to go ask what the problem was and still was told “let me go see.” He came back 10 minutes later to seat us. I was very disappointed with that. The reason why reservations are made is so that you don’t have to wait for a table
Seated at the back corner booth. 4 would have been cozy there. 6 was very cramped. Service and food was good, despite it being very busy... New Year's Eve. Prices were ok, but given the layout/ambiance, I frankly expected them to be a bit cheaper.
They have no system to greet guests. The busboy is in charge of seating. We waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged with "did you need something". Food was good. Drinks were tiny. Waitress was good. Overall: don't bother. It's a local place for local people. If you aren't a regular you won't feel welcome.
First visit to restaurant, appetizers where very good and they have very good menu options. All in party enjoyed their meal and will go back to restaurant again.
Stopped here after a concert. Arrived before our reservation time but still got seated immediately. Great atmosphere. Great service. Great food. Gotta remember to use the shuttle service to the Xcel when certain events are on (Wild games, concerts, etc). Great perk.
Great food, but space could use updating
I haven’t been to Bennett’s in years. I eat out often and this was absolutely the best burger I’ve ever had. I will be back EVERY time I am craving a burger. Delicious.
Food quality has slipped and prices have gone up Disappointing.
Very local, casual place. Really good food and friendly staff. A nice place to hang out at the bar, or sit with family and have a good meal. Booth seating and tables in the restaurant area. I will definitely go back.
We initially tried to get in at Mancini's with no luck and a rude attitude. My husband and son were skeptical when we pulled up to Bennett's and walked into to what appeared to be a dive bar. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and friendly waitress. The three of us had the Tomahawk Ribeye medium rare which was excellent. The house salad was good and the carrot cake unbelievable. My husband and son, both frosting fanatics, both said they could eat the cake without the frosting that is how moist and yummy it was. The one thing we thought could be improved was the au gratin potatoes. The portion size of the potatoes was small and they were not very cheesy. We will definitely be back and will recommend to others.
Wild Pre-Game meal-
Always a fun and energetic atmosphere. Great for pre Wild game bite to eat. Good really any night of the week!
Great food and excellent service!
As always, the food was fantastic; however, our server was not up to Bennett’s standards. She was short and rude at the beginning, but got a little better as the night went on. She just put a sour taste in our mouth.
We found Bennett's accidentally a few years ago, and love it! Not only are the food, cocktails and service great, but the shuttle to the Xcel Energy Center for concerts and hockey games great and convenient! I highly recommend Bennett's!
A great find! Exceptional food, friendly staff, good cocktails, moderate prices
