Benji's Cantina in Austin, Texas offers a fresh take on Tex-Mex cuisine, with a menu that features house specialty fajitas. The ambiance is simple, and the seating is plentiful both indoors and outside on the air-conditioned patio. Before you even order, your server will present you with a complementary plate of chips with two different salsas. The green salsa is very spicy, but the red is considerably milder.
For other taste sensations at Benji's Cantina, try the hot jalapenos filled with jalapeno paste, the grilled onions or the fish tacos. Benji's Cantina also offers a selection of premium tequilas, along with a number of specialty margaritas and other cocktails. You can also enjoy a cold beer with your meal.
Was actually super disappointed w dinner service. It was confusing with orders and prices and way overpriced for what it was. I did check the menu And prices however server wasn't clear on additional charges whatsoever. Example. Beef quesadilla. 10$ for quesadilla plus $10 charge for beef? Like what? Or at least tell me you will charge me double. Who eats quesadilla without any kind of meat? Anyways that was just one example. Least to say our group of 12 was satisfied w food but not happy with how it was handled and explained for us with charges. We paid and left. Not coming back for sure.
The lobster ceviche was delicious and had plenty of flavor. Two people at the table ordered an entrée of the Special menu, and they both said the meat was so dry they could barely eat it. But, we did get the cheesecake dessert, and it was DELICIOUS. Our server was fantastic.
Probably the best steak fajitas I've had in a very long time. Great presentation, awesome quality and atmosphere. DEFINITELY would recommend and will be back!!!
We made reservations and were seated right away. Service was great. Delicious menu with a great selection of unique dishes.
The chicken enchiladas were dry and the queso was bad.
We went for brunch on Sunday, 5 people, with ages ranging from 20 months to 86! Our reservation was at 11:00 am as we wanted to beat the rush. The staff was attentive but not overwhelming. Someone brought the highchair to the table before we could even ask. We were seated close to the buffet so my mother could walk over, this was at their suggestion, which we appreciated.
The buffet was out of this world!! Everything we tasted was absolutely delicious!! As we were leaving the place was filling up, happy we were there early, thus making it family friendly for our special circumstances.
We will definitely be going back, have already enjoyed dinner there several times, and the brunch is already calling our name!!
Great dj, fun loud with good energy. We did the brunch buffet and the food was good.
We booked on open table, the hostess called right away to let us know brunch times and worked our group in 30 minutes earlier.
Two friends came in from out of town and requested Mexican food for their last night in Austin. I took them to Benji's and they loved everything about it - the food, the drinks, the service and the atmosphere.
The food overall is decent, but there is no reason to go back. There are other far superior Tex Mex locations in the Austin area. Because it's on 6th Street, it seemed like a hot spot for bar hoppers or people simply seeking a meal with a social scene. The most disappointing of the night was the Tableside Guacamole. It was prepared on a plate. One of my dining companions commented that it could have been prepared in the kitchen if that was how the experience was to be presented.
Good food, service & ambiance. Very cute location too. We had a very nice time & it was a good value.
