Benjamin Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
From the smile of the manager welcoming you, the waiter who remembers what kind of wine you liked, and the steaks done just the way you want them, this is a world class dining experience. The food is superb. The service is prompt but never intrusive. And you leave very happy, and planning your next visit.
When we arrived the table was not ready. Wating in the bar without being able to have contact with a person almost made us leave. The noise in the restaurant was incredible, not possible to have a normal conversation.
The food and service in the restaurant was excellent.
Benjamin's has been one of my favorite NYC steakhouses for years. It's always been a go-to for me. However when we went therethis most recent time, they were terribly overcrowded and we weren't seated for our 9PM reservation until 9:30. The front end staff were superficial and gave generic answers of "a few more minutes" every time we asked how long past our reservation we would be seated, and the bar we were asked to wait at was small and absolutely packed with no space yo get out of the way of the servers trying to squeeze through with large platters of food. It wasn't just us either, we observed numerous groups who had reservations being asked to wait significant anounts of time. Once we were finally seated, the food and wine was still reliably excellent, among the best steak in the city. However the food wasn't my concern, it just seemed overcrowded and poorly managed.
Terrific overall experience ! My friend and I shared the Porterhouse for two while our wives had the filet and the rack of lamb respectively. All were cooked to perfection ! Service was attentive but evenly paced. A bit noisy perhaps due to the festive holiday spirit but everything else more than made up for it.
We have been there before and had a stellar experience, from the service to the food.
This was definitely and OFF night, and we ended up asking for check after our app, as servers were non attentive even though they were not their standard busy.
We were disappointed.
Benjamins NEVER disapoints! Threre are thousands of good restaurants in NYC but very few consistently provide the quality meal and outstanding service that Benjamins does. You will often see Benjamin walking the floor and checking in on guests to make sure everything is perfect. In a city full of great places to eat, Benjamins always stands out as one of the best!
This was a special dinner. Steakhouse is in back of a hotel. We were seated in a quiet area, unfortunately right at service door to hotel so when room service was delivered to hotel they went thru these doors, and didn't close them.....letting freezing cold air in. The food was excellent. My daughter and I shared a porterhouse for 2, perfectly cooked. My husband had the vesl chop, also very good, and the creamless spinach was fab. Server was good. Desert, fair. Very noisy, very crowded. Bathrooms were really GROSS, with long lines and coat check very sloppy....brought wrong coats. They care about the food, not so much the customer experience. It's not close to a Peter Luger or Del Fresco. Will not go out of our way to go back nor recommend.
There was four of us...2 ordered filet mignon, they were awesome, melt in your mouth delicious, 1 ordered sirloin, he was happy but I thought it was tough and I ordered the double lobster tails and honestly I should have sent back...they were overcooked dry and chewy...
The place was packed, service was great from check in to bar to table all fine!! only complaint was the fish
This was a disappointing experience. My husband and I, along with my sister and brother in law had a reservation for 3 pm as we were in the city for a show that started at 6 pm. After we were seated our waiter asked if we'd like to see the wine list, did we prefer bottled or tap water, brought us bread and disappeared. Several minutes later he returned and asked if we were ready to order. We said we'd like to order some drinks first. I might have ignored this had it been busy but at that hour, except for a few other tables, we had the place to ourselves. We did enjoy our meal and everything was fine until dessert, which we all enjoyed....until my husband found a hair in his pecan pie. Not on it, baked into it. Okay, it happens and they did not charge us for it. Fine. But what put the icing on the cake, so to speak, was the espresso that my husband and brother in law ordered. I don't recall what they charge for it but future diners should be aware that a cup of espresso consists of barely 1 Tablespoon of coffee in an otherwise empty cup. Needless to say, we won't be going back.
Travelled from the UK,I had googled places to eat and this place came with top reviews and now i know why.The steaks are the best I have ever eaten, mine was the rib eye and my wifes was the sirloin both cooked to perfection and both huge slabs of meat, we had cottage fries onion rings and Benjamin fries and creamed spinach to accompany although the meat by itself was more than enough!Great service and ambience but not the cheapest but I guess at the end of the day you get what you pay for
Great offensive front desk - makes you wait with a smile; reservation time ignored if you are not a big party ; after a half hour, an offer if a glass of cheap Champaign; manager charmingly disrespectful ; actually quite offensive . Notwithstanding steak was good when we finally got seated upstairs after a 48 minute wait in a Monday. For a good evening, try elsewhere.
