Benissimo Ristorante and Bar Ratings and Reviews
Owner was confused we had a reservation and could not seat us because they were busy. The restaurant is using Open Table but not managing their reservations. He seemed annoyed that we had made a reservation when he had people waiting 30 minutes for a table already as if it were our fault. We went somewhere else.
We live in the neighborhood and frequent the restaurant and the food is good and service okay. We have had 2 issues now with the owner honoring Open Table reservation and a groupon type voucher. His restaurant is out there on these services but he get's mad and flustered when you use them.
Even with reservations the evening was a bit rushed and the food while tasty the sauces were watery. They usually do a more consistent job but perhaps it was an off-night in the kitchen. The host is charming and waitstaff friends. It is a great neighborhood restaurant overall.
We asked the waitress to help us choose between two bottles of wine and she flatly said she knew nothing about any of the wines on the menu?! If she doesn't know, why on earth doesn't she learn? The food and service were mediocre. I hadn't been here in 10 years or so and now I know why. Nothing special whatsoever about anything at this restaurant. With so many other choices in Marin we will not return.
It was as if the server forgot that we were dining at his station. After a long wail we asked about our orders. Finally, we were served. The special, pork tenderloin, was cold and rubbery and was sent back. The other three entrees were average, at best. We will not be returning.
My date and I had a good dinner here last weekend. I ordered the seafood special, which consisted of mussels and calamari over pasta in a red sauce; it was ho-hum. My date really enjoyed her salmon entree with polenta. The house Cab was quite drinkable, but they served my grappa in a tiny straight glass instead of a proper goblet. The cannoli, which is not homemade, was hard to cut through but otherwise decent. Throughout the evening, we were well attended to. Nonetheless, their prices are currently too high for the quality of the experience.
Delicious and delightful! This is our favorite local restaurant and have had a great experience every time we go, which is often. This last visit was to take friends visiting from Michigan and once again, we all had great meals, service and a wonderful warm environment in which to visit and catch up.
We celebrated our grandaughter's birthday here. Party of 11. Made reservation the day vef1ore. It worked perfectly. We had a mix of appetizers, pizza, and menu main courses. People who has clams and fettuccine in white wine sauce raved about it. Pizza eaters said crust under toppings was a bit soggy. Flavor for pepperoni pizza was great as was the garlic infused dipping oil. Special dessert for granddaughter was also delicious. We would definitely do this again.
Good, solid reasonable and real Italian food. We have been going there for at least 25 years and it is owned by 2 (Italian) brothers. One is front of the house and the other is the chef. It has been about 1 1/2 years since we were last there (we have all retired) and it is still as good as ever. Food is good and well prepared and service is just fine as well. No view but the ambiance is fine. Easy parking. Just a good solid neighborhood Italian restaurant. Also a very popular bar with Happy Hour appetizers and drinks as well as at least 3 prix fixe (5 to 6 pm) three course menus for dinner. It's a good deal all around.
