Benihana - Wheeling
The chef wasn’t entertaining, he seemed tired or sad.
Waiter was ok did not smile seemed like he’d of rather be else ware the cook was rude we asked for garlic butter on our food he said ok did not use it , I wasn’t sure if he understood so I asked nicely again he said he has it again didn’t use it but very much acknowledged that he understood later to serve my daughter burnt scraped from grill at the bottom fried rice !! We were very nice and patient with him couldn’t understand why we were treated so rudely. :(
Benihana does not seem like it has been updated since the 70s. Not a good selection of Sushi, if you wanted to order. Overpriced. I would go to Ron of Japan or Fish on Fire.
We had a great experience at this restaurant, however, since I am a vegetarian, I was disappointed that there were so few options. I would have been satisfied with only vegetables but that too was not offered. Also, the young adults I was with would have preferred some other chicken entrees. Definitely worth visiting for the dining experience.
Wait was very long despite having a reservation
Chef was great, very professional and entertaining! Food was amazing!!!
The food was good. The portions were extremely small. Not worth the money at all
Extremely slow - not seated until over half an hour after reservation, didn't eat until well over an hour after reservation. Food almost makes up for it, though.
Fun for my son
This was my first time at the Benihana in Wheeling & it’ll be my last. I made reservations and got there for 2pm. The service was horrible our server was mia we had to keep stopping other people passing by to ask them for drinks and to pick up bowls plates etc. Our chef was friendly & even acknowledged the fact that our server wasn’t around for refills etc he walked off to find her because he was short on rice. So after we ate she approached our table and told us how much we needed to tip her because she had to pay the chef. She even wrote the tip on our check. I found that very and even asked her about it she then took the check back and brought a new 1 without it. Upon picking up the check books she stated you guys need to tip me enough I worked very hard loud and in front of everyone! At this point I’m furious I hate to pull the race card but that was the vibe I got because we were African Americans in the restaurant she assumed we wouldn’t tip...but we were and always do I’m a Navy veteran whose proudly served this country I’ve been many places but never have I had the service we received!! I hope this is not the message Benihana wants to convey to its customers!!!
Fun birthday dinner for the family. Got our own table/grill and the food did not disappoint. Fun interactive dining experience with actually pretty healthy quick grilled shrimp, steak and chicken. An annual treat
Went for son’s 13th Birthday. Always consistently good. Same food same show.
We were seated right away. Everyone was great. Would highly recommend.
Way over priced, very bland food, excruciatingly long and unenjoyable.
Omar was great
Best filet and colossal shrimp
My family and i were there to celebrate my birthday really enjoyed my evening there , thank you Benihana.
The chef was great. We were packed like sardines with 9 to a table. Service was so slow and rushed and forgetful. The food itself was fantastic.
Great service, excellent food and great with kids. Much better than Ron of Japan. Bennihana has higher standards and mich better menu food options. Portions are excellent. Thanks.
Omar was a great chef. The food was delicious and his skills were very entertaining.
Always a fun experience! Great way to celebrate an event!
Best of the hibachi restaurants I eat in around the US. Good service. Good chef show. Food is first class.
All around good dining experience
Worst experience ever. Service was terrible. Waited almost an hour to be seated and have someone bring water. Dinner started 1 hour 15 minutes after our reservation. Ridiculous!
We always enjoy going to Benihana for our birthday celebrations!
Waste. We took our daughter here for her birthday and it wasn't what we had hoped for. We were hoping there would be more of an "experience". It wasn't fun at all. The waiter was in a hurry and spoke really fast. He had no personality and acted a little like he was bothered to be there. The chef came and didn't say a word to us. He banged on the grill a couple of times. slapped down the food and just cooked it. No flare, no pride in his craft. He plated the food and then left. It was VERY VERY expensive . I wish we had gone elsewhere
Christmas dinner this year was extremely enjoyable thanks to the organization and efficiency of this Benihana location. I’m so impressed with how they sat a mob of people and kept everyone moving along. Once seated, the service and pace of food service were amazing! I applaud how this location handled the Christmas Day crowds with ease and grace. Food was delicious and also appreciate the vegetarian option and extra lengths the staff went to accommodate my vegetarian family member. Thanks for great memories and I definitely recommend this location!
Very busy Christmas day at restaurant, but seated within 5 minutes of reservation with 2 other groups. Steak and Shrimp 6 course meal appeared to be ordered a lot. Filet and Scallops out standing and cooked properly. Try 6 course meals which include dessert. Always attentive to allergy requests. Sushi appetizers feed 2 people easily. Tho not a drinker, bar menu very good. Pepsi products served here, tho I'm not a fan. Will be back to try a few more of their great food items.
It was very busy being Christmas Day. I felt the chefs were definitely rushing. Steak was ordered medium rare came barely medium. Not sure I would come back on a major holiday. During a non holiday time yes I would return.
Schaumburg much better. They are more engaged and more of a show. Food tastes better at Schaumburg location and the wheeling location was FREEZING cold. Said it was their filtration system but it was distractingly cold
We come here every few weeks. Food is always great. I wish the cook would have
Excellent food, attentive and friendly service. Great place!!!
Too many children! They should have adult only tables available.
EXTREMELY BUSY night and the staff worked their butts off attending to each table. They did an excellent job with all the people that night. Our chef was very entertaining and cooked DELICIOUS meals for our entire party of 8.
Good was great but if you have a smaller group (our was 4) you get seated at a table with other groups making occasions such as birthdays odd.
Chef was entertaining and food was delicious. Felt rushed and not a priority for wait staff. Asked for water twice, didn’t get the rice for my order had to ask again. Mixed up our bill and rushed through the birthday celebration of the guest at the other end of our table. Expected more for the price.
Took my son for his birthday and must have gotten a new cook. Our orders were all scattered, the portions were small and kiddie sized ( even though we ordered two expensive dinners ) and it just was not worth the money we paid, overall. This location truly disappointed us as first time visitors . Not worth what you will pay.
A fun night with delicious food. Also met two really nice couples sitting at our table. Definitely would recommend going to Benihana for a fun experience!
We celebrated our son’s 14th birthday here and our experience was mixed due to the following reasons:
1. Positive experience: waiting time to be seated was short upon arrival; waiter was courteous, respectful and responsive to our needs; the one who fried our food was kind and accommodating.
2. Negative experience: since this our first time to be at this place, we did not know what the arrangement is. When we were seated, the one who helped us find out table told us that since we were only 5 there might be other people who would join us to occupy the 3 remaining chairs. Surprised, I asked her if that’s the standard operation or practice because we would rather have our own privacy at our table. She explained that “it’s how we do it here.” I wanted to leave that place immediately and take my whole family to another place because I could not imagine a dining experience where we could not enjoy our privacy as a family. My wife convinced me to stay and try it out. Then after about 5 minutes a fine group of 3 gentlemen came and occupied the 3 remaining seats. We all felt uncomfortable because we could hear their conversations and they could hear us. When they started drinking Sake and beer, my 3 boys ages 15, 14 and 10 were looking at us as if asking us why such thing is going on. The 3 guys were not loud and they looked professional. They even greeted my son after the staff rendered a birthday song. But our whole evening was spent eating without so much exchange of ideas and stories, which we normally do when we eat out as a family.
I would like to suggest to the management to please consider the context of your customers when they dine at your place. If you have a family with teenage boys, I don’t think it’s appropriate to have other guests who are drinking go to the same table.
Our favorite Hibachi place. Never dry. Great sauces. Great skill. Other places can be hit or miss. Benihana is always consistent.
