Benihana - Torrance Ratings and Reviews
I frequent this place often. Recently they've went under new management and so they don't honor reservations. I made one and still had to wait another 45 mins to be seated. The manager was rude and extremely condescending when we inquired about our table and how much longer the wait would be. He than followed us to our table and asked oh did you want my card so you can complain. It definitely put me in a really sour mood on my BIRTHDAY. This honestly use to be one of my favorite restaurants. I can't even fathom returning to this location. 😔
Sadly, our chef was not entertaining whatsoever. We were there celebrating our sons 15th birthday so we are pretty disappointed that it wasn’t fun at all like. It normally is. We felt rushed out of there too. We had a 5:00 reservation and was told that the restaurant would be closing at 8:30 due to maintenance issues. For a party of 10, everyone left feeling cheated on the whole Benihana experience. They didn’t even sing happy birthday to him ! So so sad. We will rethink coming here again for a special occasion.
Our chef Carlos was very entertaining and knows what he is doing. I think he must be with Benihana. He treasure client satisfaction.
Food was prepared to perfection and artistic presentable when he was preparing it.
Recommended to friends and other member of family and community.
i went friday lunch and had great show ,and fodd was awsome, service is late but for lunch price, its worth it. then , following tues day, i went for birthday dinner eventhough using birthday gift certificate, i dont think its worth it. it depends on chef. i didnt think he was into it and food didnt taste good as friday and i choose better meat at dinner. even extra fee for fried rice ($4 )that too. i can make it better. also, i order their specialtu drink and didnt taste any alcohol. server said its premix. restaurant have bar and its premaid? and chage $7~15. i guess u want to go there remember which chef cooks good and remember his name and request other wise not worh ur money
Unfortunately, my family and I had one of the worst customer service experiences with both the waiter and the two managers on duty. The only worth while moment during our dinning experience was with chef Pendaja. So yes the food was tasty but the service by far one of the worst. After years of dinning here, it's unfortunate to see how much their quality of service has down graded.
Chef Pendaja by far one of the best cooks just like Kenny and Luis.
This was my first time coming here with high expectations but I was disappointed. The tables were to crowded together. Also, the table we got was to close to the wall so people could walk right behind the chairs. The ambience was not what I expected, kind of dull. The chef seem he had been doing this one to many times lol. I ordered the spicy chicken for lunch and my portion was extremely small. I didn’t like that the chef shared all the veggies he cooked because I got the smallest portion, not even at all with the other customers. The flavor of the foods were delicious, I enjoyed them. But overall it was just ok.
I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT OUR CHEF "PEPE" WAS FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!!
NOW, OUR WAITRESS "ANGIE" (IM NOT POSITIVE) HAD A MAJOR ATTITUDE WHEN I INFORMED HER THAT I HAD ASKED FOR UNSWEETEND ICED GREEN TEA AND WAS SERVED A SWEET MORE TROPICAL ICED TEA, SHE RAISED HER VOICE AND WITH AN ATTITUDE REPEATEDLY STATED THAT THAT WAS THE "ONLY" GREEN ICED TEA THEY HAD ON THEIR MENU. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO HER THAT IVE ALWAYS ASKED FOR UNSWEETENED ICED TEA AND THAT IVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY ORDER BEFORE. I MEAN, ITS COMMON SENSE THAT IF YOU OFFER UNSWEETENED "HOT" GREEN TEA AND A CUSTOMER REQUESTS IT BEING "ICED" THAT YOU SIMPLY POUR IT OVER ICE. AGAIN OUR WAITRESS SAID "WELL I DONT KNOW BUT THAT IS THE ONLY ICED GREEN TEA THAT WE HAVE!" I MEAN YOU CAN EASILY ASK ANY OF THE OTHER GUESTS THAT WERE SEATED AT OUR TABLE ABOUT THIS INCIDENT AND ANY ONE OF THEM CAN CONFIRM THAT SHE HAD AN ATTITUDE. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO "THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT" ? AFTER HER LEAVING OUR TABLE, A FEW MINUTES LATER SHE COMES BACK WITH A GLASS OF GUESS WHAT??? THE "UNSWEETENED ICED GREEN TEA" I HAD INITIALLY ASKED FOR, AAAAND SHE HAD THE AUDACITY TO SAY AS SHE HANDED ME THE GLASS " I FELT BAD SO I BROUGHT YOU THIS". NEEDLESS TO SAY THAT SHE WAS MIA MOST OF THE TIME WE WERE DINNING, TO THE POINT THAT WE WERE ASKING PEPE ( OUR CHEF) IF HE COULD GET SOMEONE TO COME AND BRING DRINKS, SPOONS, ETC ETC. AFTER WAITING FOR OUR COMPLIMENTARY PHOTO FOR A WHILE 'ANGIE" FINALLY WALKS OVER TO TELL US THEY HADF PROBLEMS WITH THE PRINTER AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE OUT PHOTO SHORTLY, WELL... WE GOT TIRED OF WAITING FOR THE PHOTO THAT NEVER ARRIVED AND GOT UP TO WALK OUT AND ON OUR WAY OUT MY BF ASKED ANOTHER EMPLOYEE ABOUT OUR PHOTO AND THAT'S WHEN WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE PRINTERS WERE "NOT WORKING" SO THAT THEY WOULD HOLD OUR PHOTOS. SEEMS AS IF OUR WAITRESS IS THE TYPE THAT DOES NOT WANT TO BE BOTHERED BY ANYONE ASKING FOR ANY-THING. PEOPLE LIKE THAT SHOULD NOT BE IN THE CUSTOMER SERVICE FIELD PERIOD!
I love your bluue moon drink, chicken fried rice and your scalops. Your chefs do a lot of entertaing things while cooking. The seating incourages you to talk to other diners which makes your experience more enjoyable. Your birthday coupons are the best of all resterants that I know.
It was really sad that you have to pay more for garlic butter! When the cook didn’t even cook with it!! He just put it in the rice! And when I asked for More oh you have to pay more! Ok fine (want be come back here) One gust ask for garlic butter on her veg, cook told she have to pay more I felt so bad, I told her she can have some of mine and i didn’t even know her!! She was like what happened they used to cook with it! Rite!!
This is my #1 favorite restaurant.. I think it’s time to move on
Santa Monica location is my favorite last time I went I didn’t have a problem!!
We have been taking my granddaughter who is 27 to Benihana's since she was very young. When she comes to visit us from the Midwest to California, we still always take her to Benihana's which is her request. We always enjoy the experience with her as well as the food.
First of all the place was okay . Our server sucked . We went for my birthday expecting to get a bday certificate emailed to me on time and it never came . Told the server that we were here for our birthday and told him the email hasn't came in but he just said " oh it should be coming " so what am I here for ? The experience cook was great other then that no I'm just mad about my certificate never coming in .
burnt steak,,,,,, Burnt mushrooms
Shrimp tasted OOOOOOLD.
See PICTURE - This was ordered as MEDIUM. Most burnt Filet ever served to me in over hundreds ordered around the world.
Never in my life seen a BURNT mushroom. As easy to cook as toast.
Sad Day for Beni!
Our reservation was for 8:30pm. My entire party of 7 arrived 10 minutes before the time and checked in. We were not seated until 8:45pm...first issue because we had 3 young children dining with us. After we arrived to the table and drinks, appetizers and main dishes were ordered, the cook arrived to the table and noticed that the grill was not turned on properly. He apologized and had the manager come over to turn the grill on properly. We waited patiently...the cook returned to the table and began to prepare the fried rice but we noticed the grill was not heating properly on all sides. Again the manager came over again and talk between the cook and server happened, I finally asked if we had to change tables and was told yes. It was already 9:45 by this time. My son the birthday boy started to cry because he was hungry and now tired. My infant and toddler also began to get cranky. The manager told us we would receive a discount for the inconvenience...overall horrible experience since this place is now under new management. Then at the end of our meal we were being rushed out by the workers because they wanted to clean the table. Not planning to return anytime in the future.
