Teppanyaki chef was not engaged to do a great show for just me at his table. Luckily I had watched the chef at the next table who was beyond superb. Disappointed with my chef.
It was a very expensive meal. It was good but it was fine dining prices but not fine dining. They offer a lot of food. Too much food. But if you want then table show you have to order the “combo” that include 5 different courses. Too much. It was fun and food tasted good. But too $
Food was outstanding however we did have to wait 45mins when we had a reservation but it was fine, we sat at bar and had a drink. Our chef at teppan table was very good too.
Sam our cook was amazing, great experience! Our host was very friendly and the bartender Gary was very cordial. Best time in years...thankyou for the memories.
The restaurant is OK. Food is lacking flavor. Live chef station is the best thing bout the restaurant. If you want to take food to go they scrape your food in a Styrofoam container as if you are taking it some to feed to your pet and as if you didn't just pay a decent price in the first place to dine with them.
We had a fun time. Food was very good. Presentation was unique.

I haven’t been to a Japanese steakhouse in quite a few years and was so looking forward to dinner “and the show”! Our group was welcomed a taken to our table in a timely manner. Our beverage order was delivered quickly and were good. After taking our orders the starter soup, followed by the salad were delivered and all was good. Now, time for preparation of the entire and “the show”. My past experiences have always involved a lively, charismatic chef who interacted with the group, while drawing laughter as well as applause at the skillful use of cooking cutlery, seasonings and knives! This was not our experience. Our “chef” really didn’t interact other than making us aware that he didn’t want pictures on social media. He cooked the meals in front of us with little flair.
The meals seemed to be liked by everyone but my tuna was over cooked for my liking. With most entrees costing $50 + I expected better. I don’t expect I will return to this or any Benihana’s
We selected this restaurant for my son's birthday. We thought a table-side cooking experience with entertaining chef's sounded like fun. Our chef was not engaging at all, banging a few salt/peppers and his fork and knife a few times was not what we expected. Other tables had their chef tossing eggs in the air and splitting them on the grill, tossing into hat, flicking food to the plate, something out of the ordinary..... I can crack eggs with my hands!!
Food was very bland, again we expected more. For almost $300 for 3 and no alcohol, definitely not worth it!.....
one final thing, I understand they went through a renovation, if so, they forgot to do the ventilation system, very Smokey... really expect better!!!!
Food was good. Atmosphere was extremely basic.
We have been going to Benihana for many many years. (35 to be exact) It’s usually right on however this time the food was over soaked in butter , the chicken was good the fried rice was horrible, the steak not so tender. The service was not as wonderful as it has been in the past , I was a bit disappointed this time we were a large group and there were people we brought that had never been., I felt a bit apologetic to my guests. in all it’s an experience especially if you have a group of fun people.
it was amazing, everyone was friendly, quick service, and the portion size was amazing for the price. well worth it I will be returning to celebrate my spouse's birthday in september.
Took a very long time to get served at the bar while waiting to be seated for the teppan cooking. Other than that excellent meal and service at the teppan area.
Great food, large portions, fun ambiance. Jerry our teppanyaki chef was amazing and interacted with the kids !
My family and I attended under a reservation for my mother's birthday. The staff for the most part was wonderful especially our cook Jerry who went above and beyond to wish my mom a wonderful birthday. There are NOT many vegetarian options but I would certainly attend again.
Well, I have to say that the restaurant makeover in the basement of the Royal York is gloomy.
The many shades of gray and the lighting in our opinion are very somber.
The tables at the front of the restaurant by the entrance appear to be marooned from the restaurant, the pin point lighting is not direct over all the tables, making the entrance shadowy.
The restaurant comes to life with the teppanyaki tables, where there is people and action.
I would recommend richer tones of crimson, earth colours and gold to make this restaurant pop.
Anyway that won't happen as the restaurant is obviously newly made over. Too bad.

We had been here a few times before and it was nicer. This time the waiter slammed dishes on the table and was not very friendly. The new fried rice combo they pushed was mushy and not a good flavour. I ordered steamed rice and it came late in the meal. It seems they were trying to avoid giving customers the steamed rice. Our orders were mixed up with our benefit even though I told the chef. One of our party was given a more expensive cut of steak and the man who ordered it did not seem to notice he was given the less expensive cut. I don't think we will go there again even though it was convenient when we stay at the Royal York.
First I thought the chef is OK. But when I saw the chef on the table next to us. Why? Did we order the same thing?Did we pay the same thing? The chef on the next table explains everything and the cooking show is very good. But we need to guess what is that ingredient?
Food show was done nicely by chef. I found the teriyaki chicken a little underdone & he had already served it so too late for change .Also very small portion of shrimp in the “Benihana delight”. Overall my dinner came with the BEST fried rice I’ve ever had. This restaurant is a little too pricey for what you get & it’s quality but is worth to try for your own judgement. My overall experience was great though, I would come again to try something new!
I’ve been to at least 22 different Benihana’s around the world, the food was fantastic as usual for beni’s, but when we got the bill it was WAY more expensive than any other Benihana, prices were literally doubled because it’s in a hotel.
Excellent service, great evening out with my teenage kids. The service was impeccable. We’ll definitely be back.
Food was good. Unfortunately, our chef was just going through the motions. Part of the experience should be the entertainment provided by the chef. This was not the case in our situation.
Our food was more than an hour late, when it came to the table was the wrong order so we had to send it back, the food finally came but we were so rushed not to miss our plan that we had to eat really fast and leave, didn’t enjoy it at all unfortunately. They were nice enough to give us a discount.
The food was good. The chef was entertaining. I would recommend this restaurant for dining with a group of six to eight people.
Food was pretty good. The chef was very good at entertaining us. However, when the server started to take our dishes and cleaned up the table, it wasn’t a good sight. He put all the food waste together and even pushed down the rice with his hands.
Fun atmosphere with the chefs doing tapanaki at your table. Restaurant is very accommodating with great service and the food is excellent. As there are multiple courses make sure you plan for a couple of hours to not be rushed.
Just ok not worth the long trek downtown for mediocre tepanyaki. Had better at all inclusive resorts down south no show at all. Over salted. Restaurant way too hot. Service poor and sloppy, bartender rude, told my husband to return to his table when he tried to ask a question. Not authentic Japanese at all. The salmon nigiri was good though. Won’t be back.
You will have a lot of fun. The service is great and the food is above par.
Service was good but the food is over priced. The steak in winterlicious using good quality of meat, but the spice need to be improved.
the experience depends on which chef u got, I noticed that some chef are funny and the others are just quiet.
Food was extremely disappointing. Tuna sashimi was basically frozen and my steak was cooked medium well instead of medium rare which is what i specified. The green tea ice cream was the same as you would get at an all you can eat sushi place. Even with Winterlicious prices I felt like I wasted my money. Service was good. That was the only redeeming factor. Will not be returning.

The waitress was fine, No concerns. Our chief however wasn't very friendly . He even asked us not to take pictures and dropped his spatulas multiple times during the beginning.. I mean isn't the whole purpose of the restaurant is a show? The chief on the next time was amazing, I wish we had him. He repeated the fire trick multiple times and was playing music with him spatulas.
We went for winterlious. Our starters were not very good especially the salad as it was very sour and very tomatory. The onion soup was really good. The tea was free so i liked that. The service was good for what we paid for but not the best as we were looking for more of a show. It only lasted 20 minutes tops. The dipping sauce was not good at all. I rather have the garlic powder as dipping sauce than what they served. Overall, i finished the food and so did my friend. No left overs saddly. :(
This was a Winterlicious event, it was very entertaining to have the chef cook in front of us, would definately go back!
