The chefs were diverse. However, I waited over 40 minutes for drinks and appetizers. The server couldn’t keep track of what we asked for made excuses and just wasn’t a pleasant experience at all

I was diss aligned as they were not truly Covid compliant. Masks were under the chefs noses. Not acceptable. Seating people too close to each other.
We made a reservation for 130pm. When we arrived we were told that we had to wait to be seated. After waiting for over an hour we inquired on when our table would be ready and the person waiting the front walked away and never came back with an answer. We decided to leave and will NOT be visiting this location ever again!
Management was awesome, I would recommend this location to anyone for good food and an intimate experience

Long wait time both before and during dinner, having a reservation has no validation its still a long wait. Terrible service, my mom ordered a NON ALCOHOLI iced tea and on bill we notice an alcohol charge only to be told it was my son's drink! Thankfully he did not most of it as he did not like the taste, he is 19 but was not ID, in addition to the menu being wrong. No apology from management was offered.
I would not recommend this place to eat. It never fails! I ate here twice and continued to get poor service. The place was dirty. The bathrooms were disgusting and during covid. I was. Or happy and don’t recommend this place to anyone.
I enjoyed my dinner experience at Benihana’s. The staff was great as well as the chef!!! I will definitely recommend the restaurant to others..
The restaurant was dirty carpet and tables were very sticky, food tasteless, we had ask 4 times for the check, very disappointing experience.
As always, Benihana at Short Hills didn’t disappoint. The room temperature was perfect. No windy drafts. The server was a kind and extremely polite young make. The cook was talkative and fun. Thank you for making my birthday special. Loved the extra birthday-cherries in my drink.

Very ratchet I would not recommend they take forever to seat you at a table even if you have a reservation and after you get seated you still wait another 15-20 minutes for a chef to come
No one in floor approach to us to start service, I should call someone, in my opinion tools a little long to be served. I had reservations at 4 but chef approach to the table after 5.
The waiter was nice and polite. I will recommend the place but need to improve timing.
We waited 42 minutes after our reservation time to be seated.
Dinner didn’t start for almost an hour. Another table that got there after our party reservation of 9 got served before us and also they got sung happy birthday twice. I asked them before my reservation I would like someone to sing happy birthday and they didn’t all they asked was what flavor ice cream. Wth

Nice experience. Chef was very engaging. The server forgot our drinks about 3 times. Covid safety was strong, everyone wore their masks correctly. Food was delicious. Will definitely return to this location
why we cant have own party seats not share tables
We had a reservation and winded up waiting an additional 45 minutes before getting seated. Then it took the waiter an additional 30 minutes to take our drink order then another 20 minutes to receive the drinks. My mother in law is allergic to seafood and we informed the waiter and he never informed the chef so he winded up cooking her food along with everyone else’s. We couldn’t find our waiter anywhere and when he reappeared he told us that he had a large party and forgot about us. Mind you, it wasn’t busy at all. We chose to come in at 3:15 on a Sunday afternoon and from start to finish was 3.5 hours. We were never given the option for the desert that came with our dinner. Worst service ever! Do not come here! Go to another location!
The atmosphere was great, the food was amazing, my daughter loves coming here for dinner and enjoying our mom & daughter dates.
Chef Elijah was OUTSTANDING! He really outdid himself interacting with our sons. It warmed our heart and the neighboring guest to see our sons so in awe of “the show”. We will be back for our little ones 5th bday and we would love to have Chef Elijah again. THANK YOU!!
They sat me and my daughter at a table with people I didn’t know and we all order different food but they was giving me & my daughter food to the people that didn’t pay to have that . NEVER AGAIN . Poor service.
A reservation does not mean anything. Has to wait 30 minutes to be seated. Unfriendly and rude staff. Insufficient covid protocols in place.

Food cooked to perfection; waitress forgot my green tea, but otherwise the service was good.
The hostesses were very rude on what was obviously a busy night, but it seemed like they just didn’t want to be there. Patrons were getting frustrated about long wait times (I myself waited for an hour for my reservation) and they were not accommodating or understanding to any customers, many of whom I saw walk out from their reservation. We had a good server named Jerrell, but for such a long wait time there should definitely be better decorum in the waiting area from staff who interact with customers.
We had heard many good things about Benihana. Unfortunately at this location none of them were true or accurate. We had a 715 reservation and arrived on time. There was no notification that they were running late and at 815 a manager’s intervention was required to get seated.
Definitely strike one.
The waitress was attentive but had too many tables to be able to provide anyone with good service.
The chef was bored and simply going thru the motions to cook our meal. No excitement or entertainment. A meal cooked on a hibachi table should be fun to watch. But that was only part of it. The food was awful. The sides of rice and noodles had no flavor. The noodles looked and tasted like limp, thick spaghetti. Add to this the extremely high noise level and you have strikes two and three.
In all the food and service were terrible, the atmosphere was not fun and the prices were ridiculous. This was Short Hills, not midtown Manhattan. I would not recommend this restaurant. Stay far away. There are better Japanese restaurants in and around the area. If zero stars was an option that would be my rating.
Systems are poorly executed for reservations, seating, communication and customer service. While the food remains excellent, we question whether we will be back anytime soon.
We made a 7pm reservation, were not seated until 810pm and did not even have water on our table until 830pm. All the while being told by hostess and manager that it would only be a few more minutes.
Part of the problem was tables not getting cleaned and reset timely while staff were sitting in the bar area on the cell phones. Serious management and service issues.
Shame since the food is great and cooking experience is fun.

I was seated with one of the employees and the experience was very awkward and dissatisfying. Everyone kept coming over to the table while our chef was cooking, and it seemed the chef payed attention to them more. It was late at night and it felt like everything was rushed. The table was dirty when we were seated. The grill still had food on it from the people before us. The soup was bland and it looked liked threw the vegetables in their. I’ve come to this restaurant a few times and picked up here and I know the service can be way better and the food overall be EXTREMELY BETTER so I’m very disappointed.
Food was mediocre and portions way smaller than past.
