Benihana - Scottsdale
We didn’t get ice cream for my birthday and nor a picture taken
Waited almost an hour once seated to get chef. Service was slow. Birthday celebrated and when waitress asked our table if we all wanted ice cream we said no. She brought two bowls for the 2 birthdays at the table. However, their was no ice cream in the bowl just whipped cream. So weird she asked the people who weren’t having birthdays if we wanted ice cream not the people who were. It was strange. The chef was in a huge hurry and very messy. He dropped a tail in one of our girls dips and didn’t give her new one. Also, grease splashed on my daughter. The food was good, but the wait at table until we got a chef was almost an hour and it wasn’t as good of an experience as usual.
We love to go to Benihanas for either meal but especially for lunch! It is cheaper, quieter, and you don’t always have to make a reservation like you do for dinner. I love the “show“ they put on and really appreciate how they try to incorporate new tricks while cooking. I have never had a negative experience! Thanks Benihanas!
Our grill cook was very fun and the food was outstanding. We went there with friends and had a great time.
This was our first visit to Benihana and it will definitely be our last. We were greeted by the hostess and soon after were taken to our table with seven other individuals. The person who we thought was our chef asked if anyone was a newcomer, I said I was and he said “well it’s like any other Teppan-Yaki restaurant.“ interesting answer, but we moved on. He took our drink orders and returned back with drinks about 17 minutes later. He then hurriedly delivered our soups and placed it before us without mentioning what it was. It was lukewarm at best. Then he delivered the salads in a rush and left before asking if anyone needed beverage refills. For about another 15 minutes, my husband took his glass and walked to the bar and asked for a refill there. At this point we had been seated about 45 minutes and the tables had not been bust and we had not been offered beverage refills. Then arrived a gentleman named Juan who introduced himself as the cook. He begin preparing the chicken fried rice on the grill. He put the rice down, and the chicken breasts down to which sizzle cane. Many minutes later he realized the grill was cold. He took the raw chicken and placed it back into a bowl along with the rice and left without saying anything. About 10 minutes later another man showed up, touched the grill and left. Many minutes later Juan returned and said the grill was finally getting hot. He started cooking. No interaction with us, no banter, nothing. I assume he was trying to make up time to turn the table.
About the food. The chicken fried rice was under seasoned, the zucchini was cooked to mush and the onions were still hard. The menu stated grilled vegetables… When has onion been a main vegetable?
I ordered lobster/shrimp/scallops and they were overcooked and chewy. My husband‘s NY strip steak was as thin as you would get at Waffle House and overcooked. The entire night was disastrous.
We learned to get our booking early. We sat on time and got excellent service.
Great birthday celebration dinner with family. We had a wonderful time. Food and service were very good. My only issue was that I called ahead of time asking for a table closest to the door because my husband is disabled and cannot walk distances. We were just 1 aisle from the back corner so nowhere near the door. Frustrating to do what you can and not have them pay attention to that important detail.
Jordan is The BEST !!
Jordan, our chef was great! Nick, his sous chef was great!
We love Benihana, and Thursday's dinner was delicious as always. Thank you
Very cold when we arrived. They finally turned down the ac.
Service was excellent and our dinners were outstanding.
Never had a bad meal here.
This time the service was the best ever
We had a relatively early dinner so we were the only table with people. Our chef, Freddy, was very good. He was entertaining and the food was delicious.
Server have a very nasty attitude and our chef gave our food away to another couple
So much fun grandkids love it. Chef got the kids to try some vegetables they would not eat at home. Good food
We both ordered Filet Mignon and took 2 bites each, had NO flavor at all :( Such a bummer for the price we paid. There was 5 of us.
always a fun time at benihana. We had a newer chef, but it was great, food great and service too.
Excellent experience as always! Delicious food, friendly staff and skilled chef!
We like the filet medium rare and they cook it perfectly. Everything that goes with it was also very good. We were with a fun group of people we met there. That's usually very interesting when it's a gregarious group.
Yummy..... food was amazing chef was amazing service was amazing
Food is always amazing my whole family goes here but this time our food had no flavor and our veggies was not cooked all the way definitely was a bad night there
The food was excellent , as usual here! The Staff was the letdown as part of Benihana is the experience is atmosphere. The Setup (order) and check waiter was slow, and distracted at being around and attentive to the table. Waiting for the Chef should not of taken 20 minutes after our soup and salad had been cleared. Our chef cooked the food great, but there was no energy, and no "show" with the preparation.
These things are part of the expectation here, and as important as the quality of the food. I think I will wait again before I return here (1 year) and hope new staff will replace the people that gave this off experience.
Great experience, great food and great lunch prices
It was okay, the shrimp was fishy tasting. And chef was not happy. Kyoto’s is a better place, and price also.
We had a reservation for 5:30. We were seated but it took awhile for our drink order. They really push the appetizers. When we declined we waited 30 minutes before our chef arrived. He had zero personality. The food was mediocre at best. For the price, one would expect the Benihana Experience. We have given this location two attempts to redeem themselves. Sorry Benihana-we are done!
Nothing beats Benihana! So much fun and awesome food!
Everything was great, my only issue was we didn't get the group photo of our party of 8 celebration for my son's 21st birthday. Also they wouldn't seat us until our entire party arrived but a table wasn't even ready once they did. My vegan order didn't arrive until they started serving the rest of the table and I had nothing to snack on while others received there courses. So no food until 2 hours after arrival ( with the exception of the salad)
Took my husband here for his birthday lunch. It was quiet, but moderately busy. Very clean and the staff was nice and hospitable. Our initial server explained everything to us and actually made suggestions that we followed. Once the other was in, the cook came out and put on a small show for us. There were only two of us at the table, but we enjoyed the interaction with him. He was so friendly. The food was served at the right temperature and we couldn't even eat it all. I would definitely suggest upgrading to the chicken rice stir fry. We intend to return on our next trip out to Scottsdale.
Always enjoyable. New chef who handled his job well. Love birthday coupons.
Terrible sporadic service. Says hi, takes order. then disappears for the entire night. Never comes and asks anything, then expects a tip. It’s a joke. Had to shout to try and order any additional items. Likely just a bad server, but it’s just annoying.
They were 15 plus minutes late seating us for our reservation. Our waiter was inattentive and at some points rude. He allowed another person not part of our party to join our already FULL table of 8 to make it an unpleasant 9 people. I truly believe the chef makes or breaks the whole experience , and unfortunately ours did not impress. He just kept his head down, did not socialize with the table or engage in anything except his cooking. We were celebrating my birthday and I expected a little more than just a measly scoop of ice cream as a desert. Sadly I will give my future teppanyaki business to Kasai where they actually know how to respect and please their customers.
We enjoy ourself it was amazing! We will definitely be back soon!
Chef Kevin was incredible, Amanda our server took good care of us. Everything was delicious and well pewpared. Thid was our first time. We tried everything... steak, chicken , shrimp, and sushi. Some of the sushi was a little weird. (We didn't know what to expect)
The mains all tasted excellent. Will defs go back.
The food and service were great! Our table mates ruined the experience for us so not the restaurant’s fault. However, it is important to note that you are dependent on others for timing and such.
Terrifically overpriced poor quality food in a semi clean restaurant packed
with a birthday party complete with singing Waiters every 17 minutes
Staff was great and took the tome to sing me a happy Birthday.
It was my 3.5 year-old grandson's first visit and his comment when we asked him was: "I like it here"...
I had the Benihana Supreme - the tenderloin was nice and tender ! The lobster would have been more tasty with more butter and more tender...
The fried rice was a little bit tough, though...
I had the Mango Colada - it did not taste anything like mango nor colada - I did not need it in the first place - I was so full !!!
We had a great time with friends on Friday night!
Our chef didn’t seem to know what he was doing he messed our order up he didn’t prepare the food properly
