Benihana - Schaumburg Ratings and Reviews
Chef called himself "Johnny" not his real name as we were joking around with him.. Great Personality and he did a tremendous job with the group. Food and flair were fantastic. team was very accommodating for late arrivals due to weather..
We go to Benihana probably once every month or so. There are food choices for everyone: steak, shrimp, scallops, tuna, noodles, sushi, etc. We had chef Kyle this particular night and I must say that the food was deliciously cooked. Steak and shrimp was on point/very flavorful, my spider roll was crisp to my liking, and my vegetables were nicely charred. Service was a little lacking as I had to keep reminding our server to refill my drink but it was a good night overall.
We had a great time. The chef was very entertaining and the food was fabulous. The server was a little rushed and not very attentive as she did not speak great English so very hard to understand. We had went for my 8 year olds birthday and the kids loved it. I would for sure go back.
Service was ok. Waitress took forever to bring the soup which may not have been her fault as there was another set of people at our table who seemed to have been somewhat “picky”. Then after the soup arrived, it appears some of the orders were incorrect and the waitress was forced to bring an additional order. Of course that delayed the arrival of the salad. So by the time the chef arrived it was already well over 40/50 minutes after we initially sat down. The chef however, was amazing and the food very tasty.
I did find the drinks very expensive. I ordered a mojito not realizing it was almost $10.00. Imagine my shock when the bill arrived and 2 mojitos were almost $20.00.
The experience is overpriced. Food good but not great. Cook entertaining, but still not worth the price. They rushed us - kept the courses coming, tried to take soup before we were done. It was like they were on a clock. They forgot our tea, never got that. Would not go back or recommend to a friend.
We waited at our table for half an hour before anyone approached our table, even to offer us drinks, though the dining room was only about a third full. It appeared as though they waited until all of the seats at our table were filled before acknowledging us. We will not return.
I've been many times, unfortunately, this time, the "company" (other diners) at our table, which seats 8, were a "bummer". # girlfriends more caught up in their phones than watching the show and another couple that seemed "depressed to be there together". I always recommend going in parties of 4-5 (minimum) so your group possesses the majority of the table.
The food and chef were great. We waited 20 minutes for a table even though we had reservations. We then got seated and waited another 20 before our drink order was taken. It was probably another 10 before the food order was taken. The waiter only came around once after the chef arrived and thus never refilled drinks. Then cost was way more than it should have been for two people. We will stick with Jurin in South Elgin from now on.
We were crammed in at a table that already had 2 other parties, so it was a bit uncomfortable to be in the middle of 2 different groups. Our food & drinks took way longer than usual to arrive - soft drinks took 15 minutes, and our sushi appetizer arrived about 35 minutes after we ordered it. Refills had to be asked for several times before anything was delivered, & I never received my steamed rice (until my dinner leftovers were being boxed up and I asked for them to be included in the bag). The appetizer shrimp were ridiculously smaller than normal, and the fried rice was insanely dry. The couple next to us lied about their dinner being a birthday celebration so they could get free ice cream, and it was an *obvious* lie, so we had to participate in the uncomfortable song & clapping. Overall, the experience left much to be desired. Not what I expected at this location, & we won't be back.
We wanted our kids to join us on our anniversary for this very fun dining experience. We couldn't afford this everyday but, what a great place for special occasions such as this...we all had a blast! The food was cooked perfectly and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.
My family & I enjoyed ourselves for the most part when the chef did arrive at our table. I did have an issue with service. I made reservations was for 7:30 & it was for a special occasion for my fiancé birthday. I don’t think it was enough chefs to service every table. We didn’t get service for about 20-30 minutes after being seated. The waitress did come over to place drink orders but it seem like it wasn’t enough waiters/waitresses because we didn’t see her as much when things were needed upon request. I don’t know if it was a slow night but even so that you all make sure their is enough chefs & waiters/waitresses to provide the service.
The food was decent and I used a $30 birthday coupon so can't complain. We had a fun table with 2 extra chairs and they sat another couple at the table next to us with a family of 6 with 4 kids under 7. That couple looked MISERABLE! They should have put the family with 4 small children in the corner and sat them with us. As far as the ambiance, THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE RENOVATED AND UPDATED! Chairs with torn upholstery, dirty carpeting, outdated washrooms.
The order and beverage server was pleasant and helpful in making dinner choices.
The Chef was energetic and fun; sadly the restaurant was so loud we were unable to hear some of what he said. Food was very well done and delicious.
Unfortunately the evening was extended an awkward 15-20 minutes waiting for another server to return with the change from our check and the host starring at us waiting for us to vacate our table making us feel very uncomfortable
