Had to wait relatively long even though we had a reservation however management stepped in and really helped out. Service was wonderful there after. Food was great and ambience was great as always.
Very good food and service.
My husband and I made a reservation here to celebrate his birthday. We are big Benihana fans, however, our experience was tainted by the incredibly long wait despite having made a reservation. We made our reservation for 6:30 pm and were not seated until 7:15 pm. We would understand a 5-10 minute wait at most, however 45 minutes was ridiculous.
Had a 4:15pm reservation. Did not get seated until 6pm due to what appeared to be a very large party. Many people were upset. Appeared to be understaffed with a lot of confusion.
Benihana's was divine. The quality was there and everything I ate tasted amazing (I had shrimp, lobster, fried rice, sashimi sampler). The price is worth and if you are willing to drink, they have a decent selection of Sake & Wine.
If you are a big group, I recommend maximum 8 people for an optimal experience and definitely reserve in advance. If you are less, be ready to be seated with others - nonetheless a great experience.
This continues to be one of the more poorly-run operations out there. If it wasn’t for the yummy food and hard-working and charming chefs, we would not be back. There is ALWAYS a wait, even at 4:45pm with a reservation. And then once you sit, they take FOREVER to take your order and start cooking. It was an hour after our reservation time when we got soup. Hire some more chefs so you don’t make people wait and wait. It’s annoying AF! Really poor management of customers’ time.
It was a great experience and I had a fun time and it was exciting and the food was also excellent
Waited over an hour for our table, even with a reservation. Several parties backed up. Hostess left the desk several times for long periods, no explanations, no one to greet new parties that began crowding in.
Been to several Benihana establishments, this was a let down...
The clean up the of tables was slow. I got sushi, and it didn’t seem freshly made. The bathrooms were dirty and out of toilet paper.
GOT TO REST. AND THEY DIDNT HAVE OUR RESERVATION..SEEM THEY WERE CONFUSED
FOOD WAS OK, IVE BEEN THERE OTHER TIMES AND IT HAS BEEN BETTER. SOUP HAD NO FLAVOR AND MY STEAK WAS TOO SALTY. CHEF WAS MMM OK . NOT ENERGETIC ENOUGH. JUST DID 2 SIMPLE TRICKS AND STUCK TO COOKING. WE HAD KIDS SO IT WAS BORING FOR THEM.
WHO DEFINITELY GOT A 5 STAR FROM ME WAS THE WAITER JOHN. GREAT GUY. VERY ATTENTIVE AND NEVER FORGOT ABOUT OUR TABLE. ALWAYS ASKED IF WE NEEDED ANYTHING ELSE AND WAS GREAT WITH THE FAMILY. MADE THE NIGHT MUCH BETTER BY BEING HAPPY WITH WHAT HE WAS DOING. EVEN MADE MY GIRLS LAUGH LIKE CRAZY. SO FAR THE BEST WAITER IVE GOTTEN THERE.
The server never came back to check if we needed drink refills. This could have made his check/tip larger. It's as if he could care less once we placed our orders.
Went for son's birthday at his request; it's kind of a tradition now. The wait was 30 minutes because hubby was late. Seated toward the back, had a weird smell the whole night, kind of like a dirty dish rag. Service was OK---took our orders and then didn't check back until it was time for the check. Chef was fine, but the shtick is the same and kind of hard to get excited about it now. Son still likes it though. They should vary the routine a bit after so many years. The food was average---the chicken fried rice amount seems less than before, the filet mignon was fine, the veggies were good, but how can you go wrong with grilled veggies? Very noisy and the place is not very clean. Seems old, sticky, and messy. Wouldn't go back except as special request from son.
Birthday and graduation
Way too unhealthy and need to clean the restaurant, gross carpet and ceiling
It was just OK, food was not very flavorful and very expensive for what it was. Hibachi grill show was fun.
I will never make reservation at Santa Monica Benihana again.
We had a 6pm dinner reservation. We waited 45 mins to be seated and didn’t eat anything until 7pm. Very disappointed with the wait time. It shouldn’t take this long to be seated when you have a reservation.
Our chef messed literally everything up and server took forever was pretty bad
The chef at our station was great. Very entertaining and had fun banter that united the two separate groups that were seated at the same grill. Our waitress got our order wrong twice though and then tried to tell me that I had ordered the wrong thing - naming some combination that I hadn't heard of. Surf and Turf is pretty basic thing to order and remember so the fact that she was trying to convince me that I said otherwise was a bit annoying. Anyway...in the end, she fixed it before the chef had turned off our grill (although I noticed on my credit card that she had charges us 3 times then voided 2 times) and gave regular drink service which I always appreciate.
Amazing service and food. Our chef, Miguel cooked our steaks to the perfect rare and our server Dom, was so sweet! She made sure our drinks were always full and my dishes were cleared for the next courses. The pretty manager, Suzy came by to make sure things were well, check in on our experience and assured us that we can contact her if we needed anything. My favorite location next to puente Hills. Excellent work, guys! Thanks for making my date feel so special!
We had a 8:00 reservation, and it was my 6 year olds birthday. It was already a late reservation. We got there at 7:50 but they didn’t seat us until 8:30. Worse they gave us a table facing the back wall and another table facing the restaurant was open. They said we couldn’t seat at the other table. We sit down and it took a long time for our waitress to come. The other table that was open got seated after us. There food came first and their chef. We had to wait until there chef finished before our chef came. We didn’t have a chef until 9:20. By the time the dinner was prepared two of my kids were asleep. The waitress would also disappear for long periods of time. The chef was nice when he finally came, but I was very disappointed overall.
All the children’s parties were out of control. We had one group w sleeping bags and pillows, another table pounding the table. Too noisy
So much fun love the cooks hreat time with my date
I put that i would recommend because the last time i was here i had an excellent time. however, this time i waited over an hour and half just to have our food begin to be cooked. I have never waited so long once seated and was very disappointed. Our waitress was swamped with tables as well making our overall service non existent. i usually don't have this problem at benihanas once i am seated. thankfully this was the best cook i have had so far in benihanas which made up for the crappy service.
This is the filthiest Benihana I’ve ever been to. The carpets spell, the ground starting from Thank the entrance are filthy. Needs more lighting and wiping of walls. Disappointed with the quality of this particular Benihana. NOT up to par.
I went to Benehana for my birthday and after getting a coupon into my email. I went to the restaurant and waited with wife and my little daughter (even though i had a reservation). Then when we decided what to eat, i showed them the coupon and the waitress refused to accept it as its not printed, and she mentioned that they used to accept it in cell phone , but not anymore. That was really fraustrating as no one is printing paper at this time, so no need for a print out, and the bar code and the number in the coupon can be taken from the cell phone.
So that was unacceptable, and it seems the restaurant was trying to push people out, as they had a long waiting line.
I will never visit Benehana again
Ventilation system so poor that our eyes were burning. Got home and had to take off our clothes and wash them immediately. Restroom very dirty. The food was good but the service was severely lacking
The table-side chef was excellent. The server appeared to be new and was much slower compared to the table next to us who were seated after us. He was very apologetic though. The ice cream looked like it was tossed into our bowls and the picture we were given ...well my eight year old granddaughter could have done better. That was a disappointment. It wasn't a keepsake worth keeping.
waited 30 minutes to be seated for our reservation when the restaurant was literally empty -- service was slow considering not many customers there and once served our check was dropped while just starting to enjoy our meal and dessert offered as well. I am a frequent customer and this night was very off compared to past experiences - - disappointed .
Train chefs little more service was great cooking skills little messy.
Benihana is fun for the kids. The wait staff is ok, they are nice but can disappear, the chef is great, hope he gets most of the tip.
The Benihana experience was nothing I imagined-being from the Easy Coast I’ve always heard the rave about the food and restaurant. The chef was very talented but the food was not flavored well, we had to wait over an hour for someone to even come to our table, after waiting 20 minutes to sat at our table though we had 845 reservations. The waiter was friendly but a bit spastic and not attentive to our table. By the time we ate it was 1030 and the restaurant was not busy but I felt out table got neglected. We had a party of 5 and were the only ones at the table. I would like to say I would try this restaurant again to see if anything changes but for the dinner price I would not-maybe lunch. We will see the next time I visit LA.
Fabian was great!
I love Benihana so I will be back. Cook should just concentrate on cooking instead of all the tricks and small talk. Was hubbys Birthday, lobster a lil bit salty and my steak should have been well done. Tricks are cool but not at expense of my meal.
Took an hour after seating us to take our order
It was great
We didn’t get much of a show like usual. The chef cooked our food very fast and mostly together and I didn’t much like that.
