My reservation was at 8, we didn't get seated until 8:20, it was packed.
It was terrible! Our reservation was for 7:15pm we didn’t get seated until 8:20!!!! Everything was so unorganized I felt as tho they should have been paying us to eat there!!!! Terrible management! Terrible hostess! Which is even more unacceptable since she’s the first impression when you come through the door. Benihana Santa Monica was a true disappointment
Perfect Birthday Dinner I Had Lord Of Laughs Drinks was Nice Food The Best over All Yummy
Worst customer service ever. The wait was over an hour long with reservation. The food wasn't all that. The WORST benihana ive ever been too
The service was excellent and the food was really good. Definitely made my birthday worth while!
I’ve been going to Benihana’s for years. Always enjoy the food and watching the chef’s performance... literally.
Many times the experience can be enhanced by who you share your table with when you visit. The other four individuals were extremely high energy, fun and made the visit all the more enjoyable. The service is always first rate.
If I were ever to make a complaint... sometimes the meal can take a long time, but if you’re not in a hurry and you have great table companions, well, sit back, relax and enjoy.
Was seated 15 minutes early, along w/ a party that was seated 45 mins late. They asked for the service to be rushed so they could make a show. We had to also be rushed b/c of their request. Chef couldn't nail any of his tricks. He told us they ran out of rice so it would come at the end. My husband didn't order rice, but we were charged for 2 orders of it. Nobody at the table finished the rice, b/c it was late and i'm assuming b/c everyone was full. It should have been comped, it literally came at the VERY end. Not to mention, we made a reservation for (3) (me, my husband and a baby)--but nobody moved down, and they were not asked to move down, since we had a high chair, nobody assumed that a body needed to sit at the table. If that was the case, I would have made the reservation for (2). Overall, the experience was cramped, rushed, out of sequence, the portions were wrong (i received four shrimp TAILS for my shrimp appetizer--the taste of food was consistent, but the experience was not worth the $135 dollars. Maybe this place has lost its touch...
Edwin was our Server and he is truly the best !!!
The server forgot about us, did not provide our drinks timely and did not check on us. The chef forgot to make our mushrooms. I mentioned it to the manager and the chef came back to the table and gave us mushrooms (once our meals were complete). The restroom was and always is awful. It never gets attention. They seem to be understaffed. I waited for half of my meal until i received my sugar for my iced tea. There was no attention to detail, no service and the chef seemed to not be happy to be there. I’ve been to this place a million times, but tonight’s experience warrants me leaving a review.
Always entertaining, good and reasonable food! A friendly place and good looking place to go.
I never write reviews, but felt this one needed to be addressed. We took our family in for a 5:15 reservation. We were seated within five minutes, but it took 35 minutes to receive soup and 65 minutes total to receive any of our actual hibachi meal. With two kids under five and for anyone really this is way too long to wait. Everyone in the restaurant seemed frustrated by the lack of chefs available and the long wait times. The poor waiters tried to keep everyone happy, but there is only so much anyone can do with a bigger problem.
We went for my birthday and while our chef (Mario) was great, our service was lacking. The waitress was slow and we had to wait for anything we needed. It took her easily 10 minutes to get a drink refill. Also, very low energy when it came to celebrating the birthday portion (and that was another wait). We were also seated with a party of 6 and the table was uncomfortably tight. At least the food was great.
Always a pleasure food was great, service was excellent
The experience was great from the moment we walked in. Everyone was extremely friendly. Our chef was amazing and funny at the same time. I will definitely be coming back here again.
Been to other locations many times and have always loved the food. However tonight’s meal was very bland. I normally never ask for salt but had to today and it still sucked.
It’s was ok. My family and I love Benihana but our cook was a bit weird. He there was kids at the table and felt his jokes weren’t appropriate.
Our chef looked bored, didn't really engage with our group.
Our server was pleasant though.
Benihana never fails to entertain when the chef arrives. This location could use faster service, and parking in Santa Monica is always a challenge. The food is consistently good, though, even though it's not "authentic" Japanese. Always love the chef's antics.
Once we were seated (45 mins after our reservation time) our waiter Freddie was the best and our chef...Edwin...totally entertaining!!! These two more than made up for the wait! A "special Thank you" to Freddie and Edwin!!!
The reception was poor, lack of personality. We were early and we still had to wait at least 1/2 hr. Parking was horrible to find. Don’t think we will be back to this location. Average dining experience for a high price.
This was a horrible experience if not the worst ever.
I made a reservation for 8:30pm and was told I had to wait another hour and the host was terribly rude I will never ever go to this place it is the worst dining experience I have ever had
Benihana is a fun night out, the chefs cook in front of you and entertain. The only problem with it is that they pack a lot of tables and guests into a small space resulting in a lot of noise and service suffers. However, the food is good and it is a lot of fun.
Loved the place i just didnt like that you have to share the table if you are less than 7.
All good except:
Out of hot sake
Confusion with check at end
Terrible service. My dinner party had a reservation and we were not seated until half hour after checking even though we were on time. From when we were seated a server did not come for another 15 minutes. Overall from reservation time to dinner being complete took 2.5 hours. Towards the end of the service, I repeatedly asked the server for the check to leave, because I wanted to go. The server came back four times before bringing the check. I did not want to take a photo. I did not want dessert. I wanted to go home. That took 30 minutes! The server even remarked saying I know you want to leave. Well, I want to leave then why don't you bring the check. I am never going to this location again.
Honestly the best night of my life. Ive been wanting to go to Benihanas for 3 years now since I live in Canada and it lived up to my expectations completly. Do your’e self a favour and go to Benihanas.
We went for a family birthday dinner. I was a little grossed out by the lack of cleanliness of the place, mostly reflected in the dirty menus. But service was also a little sloppy and the place just felt kind of grungy.
Food was also super dated (tons of butter, not tons of flavor).
Ice cream was melted by the time it came to the table.
Loved it chef was amazing food amazing good vibes , the show was good excellent
Location was difficult to find and parking was non-existent...it took about 15+minutes to find parking blocks away. Our sitting area didn’t appear to have been properly cleaned prior to our seating. Lighting was a bit dark for my liking. Service and food was good.
Overall expierence was amazing. From the moment I walked in the door until I left. Everyone was very kind. Food was an amazing and the drinks were delicious.
8pm rez and when we arrived were told that they were running behind and were welcome to go to the bar until our table was ready. We chose to go to the bar which only had a few other customers waiting so thought we would have no issue grabbing a drink before our dinner. The bar was covered in dirty silverware, glassware, dish ware, and napkins. When we sat down, we were not greeted by any of the staff. No one told us they would be over to help in a moment. We were basically ghosts at the bar for a solid 25 minutes. One of the female bartenders even decided to greet another group of customers that had arrived after us and see if they need assistance. We were still waiting to see when they'd notice we were alive and sitting at their bar but they never noticed. Another couple seated right next to us weren't greeted or served either in our 20 minutes being there. Once we had our names called for our table we had pulled the hostess aside to let her know of our experience and had asked to speak to a manager. She immediately knew we were going to provide feedback on the bar service and said other customers had already been complaining all night. The manager (JASMINE) came to our table and said she was sorry for the bad service but could not do anything involving alcohol. We didn't ask her for anything but she immediately assumed we were going to request free alcohol. She said she could offer us a discount on our meal and again said she could NOT discount alcohol. We then waited another 20 minutes for our waiter to provide us with our first round of drinks for the night. Thats 45 minutes of waiting past our 8pm reservation for even a DRINK!! When we received our bill, the discount was not applied as promised. He came back and $12 was deducted from our bill. After complaining again and speaking to another manager I came to the conclusion that we would NEVER come here again. God help the owners! They need major training for their staff and management here.
Had a great time. Our chef was Victor and he was amazing!
Soup was cold across the entire table, sent it back just to receive more cold soup. This is a first for me at any of the locations.
My boyfriend and I came to Benihana for our dinner date night and it was such a spectacular dinner that we will remember . Our chief Edwin was very funny and entertaining! Our server was very sweet and accommodating .Such great ambiance overall. Can’t wait to come back!
If you like a noisy, dirty restraint that is over priced this is the place. I guess people go for the show not the food. I could not talk to the person 3 place settings away as it was way to loud to hear anyone that was not next to you. The dinning room smells dirty. Little pieces of food on the floor all over the grill . The tile behind the grill has recessed grouting the voids in the grouting were filled with little bits of food. Do not know how they pass health inspection. If you like fried food this is the place for you! Hibachi does not me cooked on a hibachi or BBQed in any way. Chateaubriand fried are you kidding me. What a horrible thing to do to such a wonderful cut of beef. If you like getting a steamed facial with grease vapor this is also the place for you. My wife and my self smelled so bad after we got home from Benihana we had to take a shower so we did not reek of Benihana grease.
It took about 45 minutes before our chef began cooking which was frustrating, but the meal turned out delicious.
Server was rude from the beginning to the end, very impatient. After dining in, we asked if we could get an order of chicken fried rice to go. She told us to go to the front or upstairs to order. The manager ended up getting the rice for us and apologized.
It was a great experience. I took my girlfriend since she she had not been before. The atmosphere and food was amazing as well as the cooks performance.
