The server, Johanas (I think) was so kind. He clarified the orders well and was prompt with drinks and anything we needed. Great experience!
The soup was cold, the onion soup also did not have the fried onion, and when they added it, the onions tasted burnt. My reservation was for 4:30 and the cook did not start cooking until 5:30. Benihana's in Torrance is much better, plus there is parking.
We were late on our reservation and the restaurant wouldn’t accommodate my request. We barely made the 10 pm cut off.
Once we were inside we still had to wait 15 minutes. There was no reason for the restaurant to tell us we had to be in the restaurant at 10 when a majority of my guests were present.
I can’t imagine corporate not wanting the restaurant to make at least an extra $500 in sales.
When we are still dining the music and some lights were turned off while we were dining. We felt rushed.
Our server Rain and our chef Brian were amazing. They were the saving grace of our dining experience.
Our dissatisfaction lies solely with management and the operation of the restaurant. I’ve worked in hospitality for 23 years and 10 in fine dining.
At every restaurant I’ve worked we make every effort to accommodate our guests. Even if they are running late in their reservation.
Hopefully the management can learn from this experience
Horrible experience with front staff lying about wait times and having to wait for hour and half to 2 hours for the chef to make food. Need better staff and more chefs for all the reservations they have. Ended up just ordering a few appetizers and leaving. Will never make reservations here again.
Had a reservation. Party was made for 7. Had 8 instead. Manager made us feel like he was doing US a favor for allowing us to keep the reservation. The restaurant only had 3 cooks so we had to wait close to two hours to be served. The place is wirn and needs updating. The torrance location is so much better.
We went there for my friends dads birthday and as soon as we showed up to the benihana they said our reservation was cancelled and after telling them we are there for a birthday and nobody cancelled the reservation, they blamed open table and said itd be an hour wait to just sit down. So we left
Bad service. Long wait. Once seated, waited 45 minutes for a cook. Portions smaller than before. Overall a bummer.
Our chef seemed extremely nervous and interacted with our table very little. We were disappointed because this is the entire reason for coming. I hope next time we get a better chef for the price we paid.

It was fun as it always is. Was sat though almost a half hour after our reservation time but the people we sat with were great. Chef was really nice and server..woman’s Bathroom was disgusting
Took a very long time to get served and pay check. Looked like there was just one cook available. Seems like you're just getting things going post COVID.
I love Benihana. We come here at least 6 or 7 times a year and are really glad to see it reopen. The food is great and service was great.
The Santa Monica location is the best one. We love coming here, best food and location.

Truely disappointing! Everyone I know said how great the food, service and atmosphere is. How this is a fine dining Food Chain? We are a party of four. The hostess put us right next to the server station, even when we asked if anyone would be using it. She said no. Everyone used it, even without masks. You can not move your chair if you wanted to because the station is right there. They stand like school kids huddle together around too. NO 6FT DISTANCE! Not even offer another table. They hit the back of my sons head trying to get to the station. Our server was always hard to find when we needed drink refills, missing plates or anything really. No, the other servers couldn't help out. When we did find our server, you could find our server (without a mask on while) preparing other tables drinks or grabbing food to bring to the table. 2 other teppanyaki tables that was seated long after we were, was served before we was.. we was here for 36 mintues before we meet our chef after our soup, salad , appetizer and sushi dishes. We finished our dishes and waited 36 minutes for the chef. The other tables were parties of six. They were seated long after we had been, served, teppanyaki grill meal and was finished before we even meet our chef. The lack of training on hostess, servers and time management falls on management. Clearly, eating at your establishment is an unforgettably regrettable a poor choice and judgement.
We had reservations for 2pm. We were seated on time, but did not get the first course until 2:45. It was 3pm before a chef showed up and did not have any of our orders. It was also my nephew's birthday, he had been there for this celebration in the past, we let the server and the chef know and they totally forget about it. Yet we watched a birthday celebration occurring at another table. Very disappointing.
We had a great experience for being our first time there. The service was outstanding, my kids loved the food and our chef Dango was very pleasant as well as Joel our host.
Host was welcoming he was very cheerful!! Poor service, she tried...
For the money I spend at Benihana’s I expect better, used to get great service. Hopefully it was a one time thing.

Terrible experience. It was my birthday. First the host wouldn’t seat me because a different family was late. Waited 30 minutes to be seated. Was finally seated alone because the family didn’t show up. Once seated, it took an extremely long time for my waitress to come. I ordered water & asked for an appetizer, but she said I had to wait because the late family. Was told I would receive my water but never did. A while after, as I was sitting there with no water, the late family arrived. We sat there even longer, then the waitress returned. Still, didn’t receive my water. She took that entire families drink order & then asked if I wanted a drink. I reiterated that I already ordered water. Waitress returned with drinks for the late family & still didn’t bring my water. I patiently continued to wait. She never returned with my water, so I asked a different waiter. Soon after my waitress Finally brought my water. She then took an appetizer order, & again, asked to late family before asking me. We all ordered & waited. Afterwards she arrived with appetizers for the late family & didn’t have mine. I waited while the family ate & my appetizer never came. Waitress came back & took everyone’s food order, still no appetizer for me. We all ordered food & waited forever for it to arrive. I finally asked, if I would receive my appetizer. Waitress went to the back & came out right away with my appetizer, so clearly it had been sitting there getting cold. We waited an extremely long time for the chef to arrive. Two separate tables, with families that arrived after all of us, were already having their food cooked. The remainder of the dinner I continued to have to ask for the things that I needed at least 3 times & she still continued to forget. She also continued to service the late family while excluding me. I had to remind her what items to bring me & request them as if I wasn’t a part of the table. I had a togo order also & didn’t receive all of my items. Worst birthday ever

12:00 reservations were perfect as I wanted to spend some quality time with my guest. There were only 3 other tables seated so its like we had the place to ourselves. Staff is on the ball as usual. This was my first time at t h e Santa Monica location and I was impressed.
The service was simply awful. Waiter should be doing something else because he’s definitely not interested in being a waiter.

The check in experience was deplorable - the host - greeter clearly wasn’t Interested in customer service. After getting through that horrendous exchange - sat down for lunch - only to be moved because their was a leak in the burner - the chief cook came out and cooked a fabulous meal - standard Benihana excellence - and there was a tall dark gentleman and Isabella the hostess who were superb. My love for Benihana is what made me endure the initial horrendous experience -

Not our first time there. Service was very good. Follow-up inquires as to our needs while we were there was excellent. all food was prepared as ordered and tasted great. Chef Dago was personable and catered to our needs. Our table was never negleted and no one was hovering over us, they kept an eye on us from a distance.
This was a great time and the social distancing was excellent! I had a great experience!
This Benihana location needs to figure out how to take reservations and seat people on time. Their current system they are using to seat people is an entire waste of time and needs to be changed immediately. I will not return here because of their lack of efficiency when it comes to seating people. Or just stop taking reservations entirely because there currently is no point if you have to wait a half hour after the time of your reservation to get seated. Change the way reservations are made..make it make sense.
