Reservations at 7:15 got seated at 7:45 they said they were running behind the cook didn’t arrive till 9:45. Felt like an episode of the twilight zone. They said they’d comp the 1 sushi we ordered. By the time the chef arrived the table next to us got seated and had their chef arrived in 5 minutes. How would you feel? My mom had to go to work the next day and be up 4:30am. We drove 1hr and 30 mins to get there. We finally got feed and left around 10:30pm. Thinking to never come back here again and try another Benihana. Worst Benihana experience ever!

I went in to use my Benihana birthday certificate and it was honored according to what was written on it. The manager made up some other scenario for using it, which was NOT indicated on the written certificate.
Super long wait time even with a reservation had people come in after us and still get a table before us, sense of urgency just wasn’t there besides that the chef was amazing thank you Brian for making it up with your great service!
The soup was cold and the salad super dry. The dressing was off too.
With reservations we still had to wait will over 30 minutes to be seated.
Mediocre at best the server was grossly incompetent.
First time coming to Santa Monica and I was satisfied with the service and the quality of the food. We went for my bday and my 2 friends tagged along and it was their first time and they loved it. Two of us got the trio plate and my other friend got steak and chicken. The seasoning was so yummy and to see it cook in front of your eyes is mouth watering. We also got the punch bowls and we were pretty buzzed at the end of the night. It was a great restaurant to close our night and to start my bday celebration.
I really like Benihana ‘s. But they don’t serve you sufficient amount of food anymore

Quail our Chef was Amazing! The Hot Sake, the Las Vegas Sushi, the Red Plum Sake Sangria Wine, of course my meal the Trio was all the Bomb! I will request Quail for my Chef!!

Had the lunch duet. Victor was a great chef-very entertaining and cooked the meal superbly! Highly recommend!
The food is always amazing! Was very glad to get to be back. They were only seating every other table, the precautions made us feel very safe. Our chef Taurino did a great job!

Service was awful and it took over 30 minutes to get a drink. In the end, the taste and quality of the food was worth the wait.
I am so saddened to write this. As our world has opened up to indoor dining in Los Angeles...this Benihana promoted everything that is wrong in our society.
First...with a reservation, there was a long wait for a table.
OK...we requested a chair for a party member with an injury and was told NO.
Then...when time to order, the restaurant would not provide a written menu to order. I had to be via smart phone. They said is was against Health rules.
I am sure they need to provide a menu that can be disposed of, or cleaned on request.
The next then...cocktails/drinks were finally ordered. The HOT sake was cold...and sent back to heat....the cups had filth in them and were asked to be replaced.
Then...after a 1/2 hour...and no chef...we asked where is the chef?
Then...the General Manager came over and told us to exit the restaurant and that we were banned forever.
Mind you we have been customers for 30 years...when they were in Marina del Rey...and the move to Santa Monica.
The staff was new and inexperienced. Regretfully so...they called the police.
We had already exited the restaurant on request. We never raised our voices or made any other patron uncomfortable.
We waited outside and the police officer was polite, as we were all within our civil rights. They restaurant has a choice whom they chose to serve, We departed the restaurant without incident..promptly.
Truly...who gets evicted for complaining about dirty dishes, poor service and excessive wait time.
I in my heart, I believe that this was not about that..it lies deeper.
It maybe about reverse racism.
In any event...Benihana will hear...there are no tourists....and by the way...there is so much crime in Santa Monica,,,,the restaurant has a SECURITY GUARD at the door, and not a greeter.
It's a shame...used to love my Beni...never again...

Cook took two hours to make food, dropped salt shaker in the eggs, again on the floor, and then cleaned it with the same rag that he cleaned the spatula with after.
I had a very bad experience in you’re Santa Monica ca, location ,food and drinks took forever , waiter said he was new or a lil rusty don’t remember his exact words , I go to often and never was this un satisfied

Sat at 7:45. They didn’t cook for us until after 9:00. Everyone else around us were cooked for. Manager finally offered half off because we were ready to leave. Waiter was excellent. Drinks, order, soup and salad were given within minutes. Then nothing for over an hour. Even after inquiring. Restrooms were so dirty and smelled so bad. Just a disappointing evening.
It was SO CLEAN and everyone was SO friendly

i was very annoyed that i was promised there would only be my party of 4 at our table. however, when i got there they added two more people to our table. that did not allow for good social distancing. not very happy that i was told one thing after making reservation, and then you did something else once i was there. not cool. not at all. i considered walking out, but didn't want to create a scene and upset the people who came to dine with me. they were also upset. the honorable thing would have been to keep your word. i'm 70 years old and recently had major cancer surgery, and feel quite vulnerable when in close proximity to strangers -not wearing masks. this was my first and only visit to a restaurant since early march. i hope i don't get sick, because of this. i'm not at all happy you lied to me. it ruined my evening. i could hardly eat because of that.
As we walked in, the hostess looked at our reservation and without waiting time guided us in to our table. Food & service was great, unfortunately we couldn't enjoy the traditional Benihana teppanyaki cook out as before due to the new sanitary regulations. Totally understand as the pandemic goes around, even do we felt safe & confidence of the sanitation of the restaurant.
It would be nice to inform guest that the chef turn his back and cook at the other table before and not have it conveyed at the time he begins to go over orders. The waitress had and attitude and was rude when asked about containers to go as well as others preps for to go food and desserts. Because she was being asked more than once by me and my friend I don’t feel she should have replied to me is it anything g else when she was the one forgetting what to bring back to the table in the first place. When my friend asked her about a to go cup like she gave the other guest she walked away like she was gonna bring it yet she put bowls on the table so we had a concern as then she rudely stated what the cup is for to my friend then begin to pick up the bowls that had the ice cream in them to take away. When also need to understand the break down of the bill because I presented my birthday certificate so we just wanted clarification of the bill she just stood at looked like she really didn’t want to communicate with us . I had a to go order and gave a tip so my bill was $100.67 and my friend bill was 125.67 but we did give her no tip on that bill I’m sorry I left a tip we had to ask for the ice cream that was included in our meal the I thought they do a photo of the birthday person well she didn’t make no effort just poor service from her.
Went there for my husband and daughter birthday they did not sing happy birthday like they did the other guess that was there, waiter didn’t refill our drinks, waiter wasn’t anywhere to be found, we had three certificates because my birthday was on a Sunday and wanted to use it but couldn’t which was disappointing. The food was good but you only get a little of what you order and it why expensive for what you get. I’m not going back it sucks
COVID restrictions prevented us from really getting the real Benihana experience, otherwise it was really good.
Tried to book reservation at the Torrance Location, but unfortunately they didn’t have anything available. So we tried to see if we could find a spot in Santa Monica, and much to my surprise there were available reservations.
When we got there, it was nice to see that it wasn’t to overwhelming crowded and noisy. We even got an entire table to ourselves! Now you can beat that!
Service and food were both great. Looks like the Santa Monica Benihana will be our new go to location.
The only issue was after being seated we had to inquire about being waited on after about 10-15 minutes.
