Benihana - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
We sat at our table for an hour and never had anyone come to cook for us. We paid for our sake and went across the street to eat ramen.
The women’s restroom was worse than a bus station bathroom.
The restaurant was dirty and the floors were covered in food and crumbs. Clearly hadn’t been vacuumed in a while.
We came to celebrate our 8 year olds birthday and he loves Benihana as we go quite often. Unfortunately, this time Edward our server was not entertaining as others usually are and we would like you to have the feedback because we always enjoy the experience.
Disappointed with this visit. There was no performance at all-not even the salt shaker! forget the hat tricks, the egg tricks. Our chef didnt even drop a word except when we asked him to drink with us in hopes to get him in a better mood. You dont go to Benihana for food, you go for the show.
The restaurant was delicious however, they seemed a bit undialed when you first walk in. They could not find my reservation but after 20 minutes of waiting figured I must have been the Cathy they had on their reservation since no one else showed up. Then again there was an enormous lag time between the soup/salad and the chef coming over to cook the dinner. Once that part began it was fantastic. Great group dining experience.
For three years in a row, we've gone to Beni Hana for my son's birthday. For the past two years we've experienced this phenomenon where we aren't seated until at least 30 mins after our reservation time. It's incredible -- our entire party is there, but we sit with young children for thirty minutes. This year's reservation was for 4pm -- definitely outside of peak hours. The staff were unapologetic, bordering on rude when they finally did call our name. Food and general experience were fine. However, when we finished the main meal, no one cleared our dishes before they brought out dessert, so dirty dishes were all over the table when we're trying to sing my son happy birthday. Needless to say, not planning on continuing the tradition.
We've been coming to Benihana's for years (over 30); In the early days, we always went to the Post St. site. More recently, we've gone to the Burlingame Benihana's because of proximity and to avoid the hassle of getting in and out of the City. It's always good, but sometimes better than others. This experience was one of the best ever. Our chef, Javier, was a master! The food was cooked to absolute perfection. Veggies were crisp-amazing! Our server was an absolute delight. Unfortunately, I did not get her name, but she was extremely gracious and attentive It was just a wonderful all around dining experience.
Liked the overall experience and the service was great, but they don’t have yum yum sauce, and that was kind of weird. I don’t have any complaints for the actual restaurant, but the people do make the experience. The people at our table were extremely picky, so it was hard to have fun and enjoy the meal being cooked, so we missed a lot. But definitely go-you can’t pick your table, but if you can, you’ll have a great time.
Being loyal quests of Benihanas in Cupertino, when our european friends were visiting San Francisco and we wanted to give them a great time, we decided to try Benihanas in San Francisco. After being seated next to a family of 4 who were all dressed up in sweatpants and slippers, we waited over 45 minutes for our Chef to join us. We complained to the "Manager" who seemed to be aimlessly walking around. The manager sent someone over to our table, however by this time, we had already seen everyone else's show, which obviously had ruined the surprise for our guests. The Chef was not very experienced and messed up our order 3 times. The quality of food compared to Benihanas in Cupertino was not good and the portions were even smaller.
Having made a reservation, the time delay and quality of our experience was less than adequate and we were very disappointed to have had to pay an extra hour of parking, for little quality.
Benihana hasn't changed in twenty years and it shows. The food is poor quality and the ambience worse. I have no idea why anyone would eat here. The shrimp were tasteless even after dousing them in their signature sauces. The salad that you get with a thirty dollar entrée looks like it came packed in a coach class airplane meal. The chefs that come to your table are entertaining in the way a clown or bad magician at a kid's birthday party are. Complete waste of money.
The major problem: the venue is NOT clean. The food was not bad but the overall cleaning was really bad.the floors were really dirty (trash everywhere) and waiters were serving the food with dirty trays. the concept is actually pretty good but they should defınıtely renovate the place and make it much cleaner!
I love this restaurant, and make the drive into the city several times a year just to go here. That being said I was wildly disappointed with our Christmas Dinner. Service was slow, we waited over an hour at our table with no cook, and no explanation and no food. I do understand that it was the holiday, and they were busy BUT don't take reservations for dinners you can't accommodate. I will never go back on a holiday.
Our bill was miscalculated three times- other diners at the table as well. They were out of ice cream that comes with the meal and no compensation was made. Drinks were not refilled.
I know all of these things are small, but when added together it ruined a meal and its a meal that costs 40 bucks a head. It's fair to expect decent service, holiday or not.
We had a blast celebrating the wife’s Bday. Steak was good and the cooking show was even better! Server was great and personable. The chef dude was great and a comedian too. The grand kid was engaged with the show and he ate a ton too - a true testament. Super value for what one gets! Great for large groups!
I love Benihana. The food is fabulous, my favorite wine is on your wine list and the dinner and entertainment concept is enjoyable. However, for the first time ever I felt rushed by the serving staff to turn the table, and I've eaten at Benihana many times over the years. I had to ask for both dessert and tea. Put a bit of a damper on the enjoyment of the evening.
Having been to this location many times, this was the worst in every possible way. Terrible chef (I use that term lightly as he was a disaster) under or over cooked EVERYTHING, was not entertaining or engaging in any way. Had this been our first visit, it would have been our last.
Still not happy after speaking with the manager that gave us a small discount, that I didn’t have time to argue about as we waited at the grill for over 30 minutes for the cook to arrive after waiting 20+ minutes past our reserved time and we had tickets to see Jedi at the IMAX. This was a lunch, we usually go for dinner but it shouldn’t be so drastically different.
I would not recommend this location based on this experience. $160 lunch bill for 4 with no drinks, terrible service and literally inedible food.
