Birthday dinner! Lots of fun!
I come here once a year with my daughter and her friend for the Cherry Blossom Festival. My daughter loves the Chicken Fried Rice. Our chef was Edwin and he was entertaining. We hope to come here again next year.
service was ok. Cook was very good. traveling so will not be back to this location.
Celebrated a family birthday. Staff was very friendly and treated her very specially. The meal was great. Nice to have a 5-course meal: soup, salad, grilled shrimp and zucchini, fried rice (option over steamed rice) and my entree: salmon with an avocado tartar-type sauce. SO GOOD! My mom's scallops were good sized, delicious and plenty! We topped it off with ice cream. I had to drive after, so I didn't drink. But the rest of the guests at the teppan table had some pretty fancy deliciou-looking cocktails! Especially the blue (Hawaii?) drink made for two!
Chef was boring.
Disappointed with the dipping sauces....mustard sauce was unrecognizable and tasted very mayonnaisey....ginger sauce very salty and underwhelming.....go back to the original dipping sauce recipes!!!!
As Always, Thank You Benihana for being there on birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions throughout my lifetime. It's kind of nostalgic for me since I've been going to Benihana since I was a little kid in the 1980's. It's always fun and the food is always delicious.
This location is consistent. Service is always good, food quality is always A+. I still love the soup, the ginger salad dressing, the dipping sauces, and my personal favorite is the Benihana Trio w/ Filet steak, Hibachi Chicken, and Shrimp. It tastes just as I remember it, and I love it just as much as I did when I came to Benihana for my birthdays as a kid in NY in the 1980's and 90's. They still even serve the chocolate Häagen-Dazs ice cream for dessert! Makes me think of simpler times, and we really need to support places like this in 2018.
Jose the Teppanyaki Chef is on-point. We've had him serve our table a few times over the years and we're always happy w/ his service, showmanship, and quality of the food. Cheers Jose!!
Don't change, keep up the good work, and keep celebrating what you do!!! See you next time Benihana!!
Wonderful!
After my son got out of school, we wanted to go to Japan town. My son was hungry so he made a reservation at Benihana. We always go to the one in Burlingame and we wanted to try the one in San Francisco. When we went in, we where greeted by the host. The host was very friendly and took us to the table. Sapphire, our server, immediately came to our table and she was very friendly as well. Our chef, Edwin, was very friendly too. Everyone was wonderful with my son and me. Will go again probably for Dinner or Lunch. :)
Our chef Sergio was fantastic. But our waiter totally messed up our food order and our drink order. And then when Sergio asked what we ordered ......our waiter implied that we were wrong NOT him. That somehow we messed up our own order. Not okay. We ordered one small saki. He brought us a whole bottle. Then we said we just wanted a small glass. He returned with two glasses. At that point we just wanted to move forward and enjoy our lunch. And for the record we were charged for two saki. And we paid for them. Because we drank both of them. Even though we did not order two of them. Not sure what was going on with our waiter. But for GRACE sake ......moving forward.
Kids b-day
I have been to Benihana before, as well as other hibachi style restaurants, and this was by far my favorite experience. I brought my fiancé who had never been before and we ended up sitting with a very fun group who were celebrating a birthday. Although our waitress wasn't the best, our chef Jorge was incredible! He was so on top of all his tricks and was very engaging with all of us. I'm not usually so impressed by the chef's skills, but Jorge was fantastic.
Waited over 30 minutes to take order. Awful
It was ok but our hibachi chef walked away in the middle of cooking and barely did any tricks. It really wasn’t worth it.
Would have no reason to recommend, much too overpriced, food mediocre.
First entering the restaurant went to use the restroom, and much to my disbelief I have seen gas station bathrooms cleaner. I was shocked and embarrassed for my family to see this mess. I have been to Benihana many different locations and the level of food, strive and care to the restaurants are shocking. The food was moderate not the level one would expect with tons of flavor. I don't get how the prices remain the same which has never been an issue in the past 20 years of me dining at benihana's and the quality is going down more and more. I asked the waitress who seemed less interested in working and never refilled drinks or retrieve forks to tell someone about the bathrooms. When leaving just disappointed decided to go back and once again use the restrooms and it was actually worse. So sad that a good family restaurant where we celebrated birthdays, holidays is not going to be a favorite. So truly upset.
Perfect in every way.
Good food and fun entertainment!
I enjoyed it I celebrated my birthday here with my family. I enjoyed how fun the cook was.
This location seems to be going down in regards to service and food. Our chef Antonio was terrible. His personality, cooking style, etc. He was so overly into the tricks that he basically threw the spatula and it hit my plate and sent food flying at me. Then he threw the rice up in the air and caught it in a bowl however, the rice touched the greasy hood vent before he caught it. Gross! The food tasted oily Just overall not a great dinner this time. Not sure if we will give it another try, but it is steadily going down hill.
The smell was very bad and strong. We had to clean all our things including jeans and coat.
We have been coming to this Benihana for many years. The quality of the food has gone down as well as the ambiance and cleanliness. They seem to be trying to save money by changing the food items (delicious dipping sauces, ice cream as example) and it was a real disappointment this last time. I don't think we will be back sadly.
They were running very late, then we sat for 45 minutes before they started cooking. Floor was very dirty, we were walking on food.
Chef was great. Food was good. Steak wasn’t wirth the price but everything else was tasty and good.
The Chef was amazing! He was very friendly and energetic, the interaction he had with my family left us all with lasting memories. My 8 year old son was so happy he ate his vegetables!
Basically had the classic Benihana experience Jerry Lewis made me expect. What I was not prepared for was how long it took and how hum ho the food was.
Took my 3 and 6 year olds who loved the first half but wore very thin during the glacial 3 hour meal.
In the end the food is just plain old stuff (chicken, fish, steak) cooked on a grill in garlic and butter. Not very Japanese and not special in anyway.
We had fun, but will not be going back.
I was there with my mom and aunt. The experience was awesome. The chef was hilarious and skilled.
Food was over cooked.
Overall, top notch. From the entrance to our seating area. Food is super delicious and cooked to your satisfaction while it's prepared it front of you. Thank you Benihana
this restaurant is going downhill not consistent in taste or servicer
Birthday party for grandson.
We enjoyed our experience at the SF Benihana. Service was excellent, much better than Burlingame site. Our steaks were cooked perfectly. However, the shrimp was over cooked. It should just be cooked, losing its transparency and when over cooked loses its sweetness and crunch. Service was impressive, I received a fresh cup of tea, three times. Didn’t get it more than initial serving in Burlingame.
I appreciate the birthday certifcates and the food is so good.
We were seated about 10 minutes past our reservation time which would have been no big deal, however once we were seated we waited for a whole 30 minutes with no one even acknowledging our table until finally the family we had been seated with went back to the hostess stand to ask for someone to take our order. At that point our drink and food orders were taken at the same time and unfortunately our drinks didn't come after we had been served our second course. The service was terrible, the chef was fairly entertaining but difficult to understand, the food was about what I was expecting (I had read Yelp reviews that prepared me for mediocre overpriced food but we were going for my teenage son's birthday and we thought he'd like the entertainment factor.)It was also insanely loud. I could only hear the person sitting directly next to me and not the rest of our group. I think my son enjoyed it as a one off but I don't think we'll ever go back.
Terrible - we were sat down back in cold and the server forgot to celebrate my 8 year old daughter’s birthday - very poor service!!!
The food was great! but the Chef HUGo was kinda rude and messy he even throw onion rings on my boyfriend feet.
Workers are very patient and kind. Chef Jessie was great! He didn't miss a trick. My children have always enjoyed going to Benihana's now my youngest loves it too. My granddaughters were left in awe of it also. Thank you very much for such a great time!
Kinda crowded-awkward stuck w Random unfriendly guests at our table to celebrate my husband's bday. Server & chef were amazing !
Shrimp, scallop & steak awesome. Chicken ok. Drinks are pricey. Don't come staving. Be prepared for a longLONG dinner of waiting, but entertaining fun.
The cook didn’t do anything special and you could tell he was new. Very concentrated on his tricks which he couldn’t do right and didn’t interact with us.
It was a great first time experience for the both of us we loved it
While the steak with lobster tails and/or hibachi steak meal were served conveniently with a salad, onion soup, fried rice (addition), veggies and sherbert/ice cream; the portions were fairly small, and in my opinion the high prices of this restaurant should reflect the portion size served, but it doesn't. The hostess did not note my strawberry lemonade, she served water once and forgot our orders sherbet (we had to ask for these items, that we naturally wanted because we paid over $100). The customer service could have been better by reservation hostess also, because we in fact scheduled a reservation prior to our visit, but, had to wait anyway because it was not found in there system (scheduled through OpenTable online). Also, we decided on Benihana because we wanted the ultimate chef extrordinare catering tricks and feel but that was lacking also.
