Benihana - Salt Lake City Ratings and Reviews
Standard issue turn and burn orchestration of food service. Server was personable// charming , one table mate outgoing and sociable, the other four mainly catatonic and out of their element (outside the house)..
The Chateaubriand was the hit as well as a good well-chilled pour of NZ Sav Blanc.
My wife and I go here around valentine's day each year. It may not be a typical romantic restaurant but it is our tradition.
We both love the food and the variety or combinations or options. This last time she had the filet mignon and shrimp and absolutely loved it. The meat was very tender and cooked perfectly and the shrimp was huge.
Sometimes it can be a little hard to hear the server but it is overall a really fun, energetic, dining experience.
Very good food, friendly service. A little noisy but it’s a small space with many people. I wonder if the sushi downstairs area could be converted into more seating? I don’t see too many people there, it’s on the first floor and with the higher ceilings i think the noise level would be less. Just a thought
It seems like ownership is treating Benihana as a cash-cow. What used to be a unique dining concept (with "all you can eat" cocktail shrimp at the salad bar) is now a run-of-the-mill hibachi-style restaurant. Interior needs updating.... the grills need a good cleaning. Not impressed.
The overall experience went well. However, the chef was not very good. He cooked the food well, and to our specifications but for the price of everything, I'd expect the chef to be a little bit more "on his game". Seemed like he could care less about working that day.
Pre concert meal in downtown Salt Lake, outstanding! Service was great, splash and meadow hit the spot. Warm sake followed by a Sapporo a quick desert and off to a concert. Our new friends at the table made the meal great… Be sure to introduce yourself the minute you sit down so you have a good dinner conversation it Adds to the experience.
It was my birthday went with friends to celebrate cook started to make my food other customers came to the same table he pushed my food to the side started their food finisher it served the then walked away to go get sauce he came back stirred up food at this point it was burnt crisp on the bottom this was a very disappointing meal and visit for the price I would expect better service
As always the food was great and our chef was a lot of fun. Our only issue this visit was our server was not very good, he dissapeared from the moment our chef came out until it was time for our check and we ran out of drinks. We had asked for separate checks for our party which he forgot about and when he brought back our tables payment booklets he gave them to the wrong guests.
Had a group of ten had two sitting at separate table Then was told we would have separate servers and separate checks. We complained so they added the two seats to our table but was crowded. The drink service was bad and had to always ask for additional refills or drinks. Table was crowded didn’t remove empty plates had to ask.
My husband and I, and two other couples decided to try this before the Jazz game. We each ordered a sushi roll Per couple, and each couple shared the dinner special that came with the lobster and fillet. That was plenty of food for all of us. It has a fun atmosphere and great service!
The hostess made my experience pretty bad. I had made a reservation for 24 initially at 8:30 for my best friends birthday. The day of I got a phone call from a guy who was wanting to confirm my reservation and he asked if i'd like to move my reservation to 9 and I said that'd be great! He said he moved it and that everything was confirmed. It was 8:45 and my friends and I were headed to the restaurant and I got another call from a female hostess and she advised me that we were late and we can't do this again in the future. I told her we weren't late because my reservation was at 9. She said it shows 8:30 and I told her that I spoke with someone today and they advised that they changed it and we were good to go. Her exact words were" Well I don't know who you talked to but it says 8:30 here so next time make sure to give 15 minute notice if you're going to be late" I thought it was rude and unprofessional. Once we got there she was quite rude as well when it came to our party getting seated. All in all the food was great and the service upstairs was outstanding, but the hostess was terrible. Especially since she's the first person that people interact with when entering the restaurant she should be more cautious when interacting with customers.
Read all the reviews and was a little sceptical about celebrating a birthday. We went on Saturday evening with a reservation at 5:30 pm. No wait at all. Service and food was very good. For 8 of us and 1 child. About $200 with tip. Will go again for my wife's birthday in March!
It is communal dining; we sat with three other couples we didn't know. It may have been nice if the server helped to introduce everyone and get us comfortable with one another. As it was, we didn't really connect with them, so it was a bit of an awkward evening.
The server spoke broken English with a heavy Tibetan accent.
The chef was fun to watch.
Overall, it was OK, but I was not impressed.
My wife, on the other hand, loved it! Food tasted great. Great atmosphere.
Normally we love Benihana but be careful going on a holiday- they have a limited holiday menu which I was never told about until I sat down. For the price we paid, service was not the best. The chef and waiter were both grouchy.
*update: I spoke to the manager about our incident and he was very helpful so we will be giving Benihana another try.
