Benihana - Sacramento Ratings and Reviews
I have been going to Benihana’s for over 40 years. This was my last time. Everything and I mean everything was lousy. The service, they had 5 chefs on a Friday night at a full capacity restaurant. The guy we had was unimpressive and untrained. He put tons of butter on everything and my salmon was still dry. The place is run down and dirty. The bathrooms looked like gas station bathrooms, very dirty. Extremely slow service due to being under staffed. Small portions of meat. The cooking surface was dirty. Everything looked dirty. Everyone looked rushed and over all I have to say, NO MORE! Good bye Benihana!
Excellent! Went to the Sacramento location on a Saturday night. Made a reservation for 8:30 PM. Arrived at 8:15, sat at the bar to have drinks and before we could even finish them we were being escorted to our table. Our chef was Poli. He was quite entertaining and the food was prepared excellently! The only minor irritation was with our server. There was a small delay in getting my appetizer and he seem to have forgotten a few other things. But overall we had an amazing time!
The wait was long, even we have reservation. After seating, we have to wait for the chef for another 30 minutes...which is not what we wanted. We have to waited a while for us to get drinks...lots of waiting.
The chef talked really low, real hard for us to hear. He looked a bit sad, too. Not as entertaining as last time we went.
However, the food are good though!
I was so disappointed with my recent visit. The food was terrible and the server acknowledged and then ignored my gluten allergy. There chef was in a bad mood and if affected the whole mood of our table. It was not entertaining it was sad. Turned our birthday celebration into an awkward uncomfortable dinner. Spoke with the manager after who apologized and gave me two $20 gift cards but again I couldn’t even eat my food. Over cooked meat. Inappropriate comments about other staff. This place has changed and I’m not impressed. Don’t waste money here.
We've come here a lot over the last 15 years, and this night was disappointing. We tried multiple times over a 6 week period to get the chef's table membership so that we could get a birthday certificate for our daughter, but it never came. This was even after we emailed customer service for assistance. They would not honor that when we came even though we showed the email from customer service. Then we had to wait 45 minutes after our reservation to be seated. They were obviously short handed. They apologized and offered a free sushi bite while we waited. In the end, the food was as good as usual, we still had a good time.
A once wonderful restaurant is now a dirty sad place where long time employees look miserable and management and wait staff are too busy chatting to do their job. They need to close and do a major cleaning and replace their current management who have destroyed everything great that Benihana used to represent.
Made reservation through Beninhana website via "Open Table." Restaurant did not show that we had made an 8pm reservation. Showed confirmation on my cell phone. Was told by front desk employees they would fit us in (after all the others who had a reservation) however, they were running behind and it would be a 15 minute wait. 40 Minutes later still not seated. Supervisor just stood there & didn't apologize (common courtesy & good Customer Service would have been to let us know when the 15 minutes went by to let us know it would be a much longer wait time, so I could have had the opportunity to wait or go to another restaurant) when I complained she called out the General Manager. He found our reservation in the system (the employees even after I asked them when I first came in didn't even try to find our reservation in the computer) General Mgr just said they were new and didn't know how to look up in computer. Finally seated at 8:50pm (50 minutes after original reservation time.) Ridiculous, unacceptable and very poor Customer Service!!!
The wait area in the bar is very small and crowded. Seating is at three tables and two are against the wall, only 4-5 people can sit at all tables
The seating at the prep table was good and so was the skill of the chef. The food was grilled to perfection and presentation was awesome!
We were celebrating a birthday, so we had a $30 coupon, which made this visit a great value. We were lucky -- we had a chef who seemed very experienced and was comfortable cooking in front of us. We've had new chefs before and those experiences were not always pleasant because we were just anxious that he was going to make mistakes or overcook/undercook our food. Food is always too salty and on the heavier -- we always ask them to hold certain sauces. I wish there was a way for us to say, "less sodium" or "less oil" upfront. Waitress seemed new -- was a little overwhelmed when business picked up later in the night, but she was very kind and tried to get whatever we needed. Overall, we had a great time!
