Benihana - Pittsburgh Ratings and Reviews
My friends and I met up at Benihana to celebrate my friend’s birthday. Because it was so busy, we ended up sitting near the bar. We sat at our table for an extended period of time and watched servers and restaurant staff walk by us a dozen times before anyone stopped to get our drink order. The service was incredibly slow and it felt like we were ignored. On multiple occasions we had to ask to order, ask for refills on our drinks, and ask to have our credit cards run to pay for the bill. The service was hurried and rushed and not proactive at all. When our food arrived, it looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for 10 minutes. It was luke warm and the meat was overcooked. We will think twice about going back.
Food when finally received with the correct order was very good. However the wrong order was put in and had to ask 3 times for correct order. Also ordered chicken and steak combo. Paid 30+ dollars for it and was very disappointed in chicken portion. I had heard many good things about this location and was very excited to visit but overall was slightly let down.
I always go to Benihana but this time it just wasn't great. The food was cooked a little too long and there was wayyy too much salt on it. Our chef wasn't very personable and hardly entertaining which is a big reason why people choose Benihana. I think I may be finding a new hibachi restaurant.
We came in for lunch on Valentine's Day. The one thing i wasn't super happy about at first was the holiday menu they gave to us for lunch. Everything was a $30+, 5 or 6 course meal. That's makes sense to give out for dinner, not lunch - Just a suggestion. In the long run, everything turned out wonderful!
I have been eating at this Benihana for years and I have to say I was pretty disappointed the past few times we have gone. The cooks are pretty sub-par. During our last trip, My lobster was still half opaque and therefore undercooked. All of our filets had grit running through them which is such a huge disappointment! The sushi and soup/salad were all great this time, and the drinks were poured heavy! But otherwise, it was just an okay experience. I think we will stay away for a while and give a drive to Nakama a try.
Dinner was delicious and Fernando (our chef) was very entertaining to a family seated at out table. Our server was also excellent (older gentleman) and attentive. It seemed a little rushed and I don't know why as the restaurant was busy, but we definitely felt a underlying "hurry up" atmosphere. Also, portions seemed smaller than previously, but delicious all the same. A good place for a special occasion and great entertainment for families.
Only reason I didn’t give a 5 Star is bc I normally go to ichiban hibachi grill, and there the vegan/ vegetarian options are awesome! An the portions are huge! And the cooking is way faster! So I was very disappointed in the 1 vegetarian option. It was a tofu steak with hardly any vegetables and on top of that it was a small potion. Very disappointed in the food as someone that eats mostly veggies but everything was else was very enjoyable.
We came to Benihana to celebrate my husband's birthday and my promotion at work. We had Chef Fernando & he was excellent! He knew all of the fun tricks that we've seen at Benihana before and a few more were up his sleeve! The food was amazing as always and the staff was in tune with our needs. There were birthday celebrations at the end of the meal with a free photo to take home. It was just a really nice date night for us.
We noticed a lot of families coming to Benihana on a Monday night - so this is a very kid-friendly restaurant and probably better timing for families than some of the more crowded evenings on the weekends. We will definitely be back for our next special celebration!
Food as usual was very good and plentiful. Chef was fairly new but he tried his best. We were celebrating a couple of birthdays so the $30 birthday coupons certainly helped with the check. We've been going here for many years to celebrate and have always enjoyed the experience.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was way overpriced with extremely small portions. The restaurant is extremely outdated and very Smokey. Our chef was borderline inappropriate with his jokes and made our table feel uncomfortable. Not worth over $100 with tip for 2. Will not be back.
We were there for Hibachi dinner on NYE. Reservations were at 5 and we were fed and out of restaurant by 6. Server was all over us every second to the point that was very annoying. We wanted to enjoy a nice dinner out with our friends for the holiday and seemed like we were begin rushed out and we could not enjoy ourselves. Food was delicious on a positive note!
We ate here Christmas Day. Our chef prepared the food very, very well with just the right amount of seasonings. We have always enjoyed Benihana and will visit again.
I do miss not receiving the $30 birthday gift they used to give -- a nice touch, greatly missed!
I have been to this location among others-and always said this one was one of the better ones. However, hell no. Server was slow-got our salads half way through the meal, couldn’t get refills, and the cook. He didn’t fully cook the chicken or anything else to standard. Completely disgusting. My 12 year old could have cooked better. I won’t be back to that location again. And I was a frequent visitor. When we approached the older Asian manager, he shrugged his shoulders and kept sweeping the floors, while guests were trying to eat. Disgusted.
Our food was fantastic! Chef Tito is incredible at his job. Our toddler had a scary experience at another hibachi restaurant but the "show" at Benihana keeps the flash and fire at a much less threatening level while still being captivating.
If you have never been to Benihana, it's worth noting that the restaurant will strive to seat guests at full tables of 8 as much as possible. There are a limited number of chefs and seating parties adjacent to each other around one hibachi grill ensures the quickest service. This was a source of special joy this visit as we met some fine people and had great conversation. Cross-table conversation becomes difficult once the grill starts to sizzle.
