Benihana - Pittsburgh Ratings and Reviews
Food as usual was very good and plentiful. Chef was fairly new but he tried his best. We were celebrating a couple of birthdays so the $30 birthday coupons certainly helped with the check. We've been going here for many years to celebrate and have always enjoyed the experience.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was way overpriced with extremely small portions. The restaurant is extremely outdated and very Smokey. Our chef was borderline inappropriate with his jokes and made our table feel uncomfortable. Not worth over $100 with tip for 2. Will not be back.
We were there for Hibachi dinner on NYE. Reservations were at 5 and we were fed and out of restaurant by 6. Server was all over us every second to the point that was very annoying. We wanted to enjoy a nice dinner out with our friends for the holiday and seemed like we were begin rushed out and we could not enjoy ourselves. Food was delicious on a positive note!
We ate here Christmas Day. Our chef prepared the food very, very well with just the right amount of seasonings. We have always enjoyed Benihana and will visit again.
I do miss not receiving the $30 birthday gift they used to give -- a nice touch, greatly missed!
I have been to this location among others-and always said this one was one of the better ones. However, hell no. Server was slow-got our salads half way through the meal, couldn’t get refills, and the cook. He didn’t fully cook the chicken or anything else to standard. Completely disgusting. My 12 year old could have cooked better. I won’t be back to that location again. And I was a frequent visitor. When we approached the older Asian manager, he shrugged his shoulders and kept sweeping the floors, while guests were trying to eat. Disgusted.
Our food was fantastic! Chef Tito is incredible at his job. Our toddler had a scary experience at another hibachi restaurant but the "show" at Benihana keeps the flash and fire at a much less threatening level while still being captivating.
If you have never been to Benihana, it's worth noting that the restaurant will strive to seat guests at full tables of 8 as much as possible. There are a limited number of chefs and seating parties adjacent to each other around one hibachi grill ensures the quickest service. This was a source of special joy this visit as we met some fine people and had great conversation. Cross-table conversation becomes difficult once the grill starts to sizzle.
Perhaps open carry of a weapon is legal but I definitely felt uncomfortable with another person at our table carrying a gun in a restaurant with children and families trying to enjoy dinner. He was aggressive and promoting conservative websites, attempted to sell us sleeping pills and talked non-stop for an hour and 15 minutes. It was late and I didn't want to agitate the guest further by moving but Benihana may want to consider a gun policy for people who are not police officers - the guy was a construction worker not private security or an officer of the law.
I feel that Benihana is more pricey than other hibachi restaurants that I have been to. Also when we leave we need to go home and change our cloths because we smell like smoke. I have been to other hibachi places and don't leave smelling like grill and smoke. That should be addressed in this restaurant.
while I enjoy the restaurant and return here every year for my birthday dinner, this year the wait time was just way too long. we were seated quickly, then had all of our sushi/starters came to the table efficiently as well. it then took an HOUR before our chef was at the table to cook. there was grumbling from all at the table and the chef did his best to apologize and cook as quickly as he could but it wasn't his fault or responsibility to make up for someone else's lack of scheduling or planning. I made a reservation to ensure that I wouldn't be sitting and waiting an undue amount of time for a table or my dinner and somehow, that still happened.
We go for dinner on special occasions and we love it . Even though you're seated with people that are strangers the conversation flows. The chefs are fun and the food is quite good. My special drink is plum sake sangria and I always have at least one before dinner. Twin lobster tail is my favorite menu item and I often buy a pint of their shrimp sauce and salad dressing yuuum.
