Benihana - Ontario Ratings and Reviews
We get to Benihanas at least 10 times a year. Our chef, RIchie, was the best. The food was excellent. However, Benihana Ontario CA has started charging extra for Garlic Butter, which has always been part of the standard prep in the past. It's a very small charge - a nuisance charge - but it took away from the experience, and became the talk of the table. Poorly thought out change, uncomfortable for the servers, annoying to diners who are already paying $20-$40 for an entree. They need to roll this back.
We made reservations online and everytime we do there is always a wait. I have been going to Benihana for many years. This location I have been coming to for about 8 years. It seems that the greeters that dear you could be a little more accommodating and more welcoming. They are nice enough but I always feel like there is an issue or two when myself and my group of friends go there. Most everyone is awesome professional and excellent. Just a select few people. Thank you
I’ve been to this location a lot. Recently in the past year it seems that the service has gone downhill!
The wait staff is always great however the cooks seem to be inexperienced and boring. When I go to Benihana’s I expect the cooks to engage and entertain the customers. I also expect them to prepare the food as requested on the ticket.
I went yesterday and the cook was slow and didn’t engage with the table at all. Everyone at the table seemed annoyed and had to request things on their food that should have been applied while cooking.
I’m going to take a break from this location!
It saddens me to write this review. Benihana has been a family tradition for nearly 10 years. This location specifically was our favorite, the food was delicious and the service always on point. Over the last couple years it seems the management has changed a couple times. At first it didn't seem to make a difference but the last 2 times we haven't been happy. The quality of the food isn't as good, don't get me wrong it tasted good and the chef put on a good show but we are running to the bathroom almost immediately after eating. I don't pay hundreds of dollars for food to upset my stomach. Also the service is meh, not what it use to be. We won't be back, time to start a new tradition.
Food excellent as always, but this is the 2nd straight time where the service has been painfully slow. Not sure if they're understaffed, but drinks were not being refilled in a timely manner, and dirty plates were not being cleared. Also, some drink orders were forgotten.
We arrived 15 minutes early to our reservation and were seated 15 minutes AFTER the reservation. Once seated, the server delivered excellent service and constantly ensured that none of our tea cups were ever empty. Our teppanyaki chef was not very exciting, but the food was delicious. Highly recommend the filet mignon and colossal shrimp
We have chosen to begin our NYE celebration each year for the past 7-8 years and unfortunately, we were greatly disappointed in this years celebration. We were seated 45 minutes late for our reservation yet, “walk-ins” were seated before us. The food was mediocre and lacked proper seasoning. The Cook (not a Chef) was too serious and lacked the comical entertainment we have grown accustomed to. There were several pieces of trash and food bits on the floor and the cook top was dirty with food remnants left from the previous guests. I brought our timing delay to the Manager’s attention, but he lacked the ability to offer an apology, as a result, we didn’t bother him with the rest of our experience. Lastly, management has apparently changed their staff so drastically that they’ve lost the sense of authenticity for this type of restaurant. Looks like we’ll be seeking out an alternative experience for next year. :(
My first and probably my last time dining at this restaurant. After we were seated it was thirty minutes before someone took our drink order. The 5 course meal was okay but definetly not worth the price of $103 for two people that included only one alcoholic beverage and two non-alcoholic Mango drinks. Cleaning between service included the young man wiping the tables and pushing the food onto the carpet 🤢 where he preceded to sweep it up afterwards totally missing the tile floor where the cooks stand to cook your food.
The long wait times are not because the food is so good; it’s because it takes too long to feed one table.
We had a reservation for 7 and we arrived a few minutes early. It was after 9 when our dinner service concluded.
Presentation by the cook was great!
This was our 2nd visit to Benihanas. Our first visit was in July and we waited 2 1/2 hours however it was well worth the wait. Our server was fantastic and our chef very energetic and entertaining. Our kids were so taken by the chef that they said Benihanas was their favorite restaurant! Our server made "cheat" chopsticks for our kids and our chef even made special noodles for our very picky 6 year old. Our kids still talk about "wanna see a butter fly?!" And burst into laughter. Memorable for sure and not for the wait.
However our last visit on Thursday was not great at all. Our server was really slow and not good, we ended up waiting well over 30 minutes for our check. Our chef was very low energy, didn't interact with us much at all and although we ordered white noodles for our 6 year old again he added the garlic butter so our son would not eat them. He did end up bringing some new ones from the kitchen but no reaction from our littles this time.
We do love Benihanas food and will definitely give it a 3rd try but this last visit was underwhelming to say the least.
It's going to be expensive, especially for the quality of food you get. The food wasn't bad but, this is Benihana and the food should be outstanding. It just wasn't. If you order any meat more cooked than medium rare, it's going to be well done. The chef was in a good mood and provided a good show. Overall, this was an entertaining night, just very expensive for what we got.
My family had a nice time. I made reservations for my mother's birthday. She last visited Benihana in the early 90's and first went in the 80's. It's not quite how she remembered it other than the fun chef's and good food. She came nicely dressed and we sat next to folks who were in less than casual clothing (sweats, shorts, t-shirts and flip flops.) While there is nothing wrong with that, we did think we were coming for an experience that matches what the door clearly states regarding dress code. It wasn't the case, but... Everyone deserves a nice meal once in a while even if they don't dress to match the dress code.
My suggestion to this location would be to better train the new staff. We had one vegan in our group and the person taking our order didn't know how to accomodate their dietary needs and didn't have much knowledge of the menu. When the chef came out, he made up for it and helped make a great creative meal, contrary to what our first person had told us.
All in all, it was a nice experience. Not quite what I've experienced before, but the chef made up for it all. He was great, kind, and made up for everything else that fell short of what we thought the Benihana brand represented. Still a good time though. Thank you.
Went to eat with my wife at Benihana ,this is her favorite restaurant first our waiter was the worst we ever had we had to ask other waitress and waiter to help us when we needed something because our was never around, second thing was Benihana started charging for there garlic butter we been going there for a long time and never been charged for them to cook your food with their garlic butter they wanted to charge us $1 more to cook my steak in garlic butter the funny thing is garlic butter is a seasoning and they want to charge you more money to season your steak raise the price of your meal in I will pay it but to charge more money to season your food my wife was very upset and doesn’t want to go back want to find another Japanese restaurant we will miss Benihana but we are not going back anytime soon thank you
