Benihana - Newport Beach Ratings and Reviews
the fact that I rsvped from a day before for 7:30pm, and arriving there at 7:25 where they finally call our name at 8:00pm is just ridiculous! I asked few times that we' had a reservation and how come we're still in line to get seated? But their response was that we are very busy tonight! That is just weak and unprofessional. Thats all I can say: dont rely on your reservations.
I enjoyed my birthday meal with a friend. Justin our chef was nice. Be very careful outside at night, it is pitch black with barely any lights on the walkway. I tripped and fell in parking area where the handicap parking is. The only lighting they seem to have it on their blue roof. IF YOU GO AT NIGHT WATCH YOUR STEP!!!
It's a great place to celebrate a special occasion. We've been celebrating my birthday there for four consecutive years. They have a promotion that people can use whereby Benihana awards you with a $30 gift certificate on your birthday. You have a couple of weeks to use it and it is a great way to enjoy a date night and celebrate a special occasion while saving some money. Not to mention, the food and service is very good too!
We made reservations for 8pm because our 5 year old had never been here and was excited. We drove 35 minutes to get there and arrived right at 8. The host told us it would be 25 minutes because they were backed up land I said that was fine. 40 minutes later we were still waiting and was not given and update by anybody. I went back up to the host and asked for an update and be said there were still 4 parties ahead of us. By now we were starving and our daughter was tired so we left disappointed. The host tried to give me a coupon for a free appetizer but I said don't bother because we won't be back. What's the point if having a reservation if they won't honor it. The whole place was unorganized and dirty! The bathrooms were disgusting. We will never ever go back and you shouldn't either. The worst part was our daughter was let down.
We were seated 45 minute after our 8pm reservation. After being seated, our server was quick and efficient with drink orders and soup and salad... then another long 25 minutes before chef took our cooking requests. Recommending to either accept the longer than acceptable wait with reservations, or go get take out. The management should have better control over the flow of diners and plan for full staff during busy dinner hours.
We went on a very busy night and the restaurant was a madhouse. We go to benihana for the experience, food is second to that. Our cook wa being hurried by the management so he threw all the food on the cooktop at the same time....no fancy knife work with the shrimp, no fun throwing shrimp tails, etc....just cooked it all and threw it on plates...they were out of bowls for rice so they threw it on a plate and served everything on top of it, the cook never got a slip from the waiter and 2 of our 5 didnt even get the correct meal. We had food allergies that were not tended too....it was an all around bad night.
Food was blah. I ordered Deluxe Treat: Filet with lobster tail. I’ve never seen anyone mince a filet before. Meat that tender doesn’t need to be cut like I was a little kid. Volcano onion was just 2 rings on top of each other. Something about this guy was off.
My family and I had a great time, once we were finally seated. This has been a problem on every single occasion that we have dined at Benihana. We have obtained a reservation and are never seated at the time of our reservation, but consistently a half hour, at least, past the reservation time. This is aggravating and annoying. It really is a problem your management staff should address. It makes the restaurant seem shoddily run and chaotic.
We went for a birthday celebration. Our chef wasn’t the most professional or polished person. His demeanor was a little of the “wish I wasn’t here” type. He didn’t really engage us and when my husband asked questions - he responded with very sarcastic, short answers. It didn’t help with our experience.
The food was decent. The fried rice was amazing.
We waited just under an hour for the chef to come out AFTER we were seated at our table. They offered us a free appetizer but didn’t say why... we assumed it was due to the wait. The rice that comes with out entrees wasn’t brought out, and only came out after I asked for it, and after the meal was almost done. A couple specifics we asked for were delivered incorrectly, too. We had to remind the server that it was the birthday of the other party that was seated at our table. A pretty disappointing visit overall.
We went for new years eve and had the worst experience. There was like 3 chefs. And the waiter was nowhere to be found. Took 45 minutes after sitting to get salad and soup then another 15 min to see chef. In that 1 hour we saw the waiter 1 time. The cook came and took forever to cook q thing at a time . He literally cut my steak like 10 times in tiny little piece to make sure it was cooked. I asked for medium rare filet and got burnt well done steak. Just a bad experience. We are now going to the Anaheim location from now on. They are more organized Arigato..
Benihana is one of my favorite places to eat. It's not about the show, for me there is just something special about eating food that is freshly prepared in front of my face that tastes so good! Our family goes to Benihana about once a month. We have been to all of them in the local area and the Newport Beach location is best. It is cleaner, has a better ambiance, nicer bar area, the table density is a little less crowded- everything is just a little more upscale then it is at the others.
