Benihana - Newport Beach Ratings and Reviews
We love Benihanas.I made reservations, for 8pm, a few days before and unfortunately when we arrived (early) they were already running behind at 740pm. They told me it would be 30 mins. 30 mins came and went and we waiting almost 1 hour! I had to ask if they would give the kids some soft drinks to keep them occupied from how hungry they were. Once we were finally seated, our server Josue was amazing - funny and an excellent chef. Food was great. Disappointed the reservations and wait time was so bad.
I had been to. Benihana in Las Vegas and was very excited to take my family. I wish I could say we had a wonderful experience, but that was not the case. We had reservations and still had to wait 40 minutes to be seated. Once we got to our table we waited about 15 min to get our drinks. It was another 15 minutes before we our cook came to the grill/table. He was less than entertaining. The cooks on each side of us were fabulous so we were a little jealous. To wrap up, I went to the restroom only to find that there was not toilet paper in the bathrooms.
My party of three originally had a reservation at 8:30pm on Feb 14th 2018. Everyone in my party was present at 8:25pm. We were told there would be a 10-15 minute wait to be seated. Our party as well as the party of five that was seated with us were very understanding and polite with this process, as it is one of the busiest days of the year. Our waitress, Jade, was rude when greeting us. She even went to the extent of rolling her eyes when I asked about the tiki mugs for my brother. Our drinks were rarely refilled and it took 10-15 minutes to receive our refills when we asked her about them. I saw her about 4 times throughout the entire night which gave the entire table the idea that she was avoiding us. We then waited 90 minutes for our chef to come over to us. While we waited, three full tables were seated after us and left before us. Upon the chef’s arrival he then left for 10 minutes to “get his spatula”. A utensil that is crucial to this part of the night, it is beyond me that it can be forgotten so easily (especially since we had been waiting so long). Other than this, our chef Rey was amazing. Manager was rude when he came over to “apologize” to my party as well as the party of 5. Both him and Jade would snap rude comments at us about our complaints. We were left eating while every other table was empty. After a short apology the manager suggested that we receive 30% off of our bill. After all of this we were never asked our dessert order and the waitress practically threw our bills on the table (while giving the wrong checks to the wrong people). We ended up leaving Benihana at 11pm!
We have been going to benihana for over 20 years. We were extremely disappointed with the overall service. The restaurant was not full (yet) at the time we were there. It took 1.5 hours before we received any food items because someone ‘forgot’ to turn on the telpan table. The server tried to be as kind as possible but the service from the management regarding the mistake was non existent. The goal meal time was 3 hours and it was a normal teppan meal., nothing additional or special. We used to love Benihana but the more recent lack of customer service has been extremely dissapointing and I don’t think we would recommend this restaurant anymore.
Ok so basically, me and my girlfriend of 4 years decided to go to Benihana because I’ve heard nothing but good things from Benihana. But we received the complete opposite!! We literally waited 1 hour and 35 mins for our fried rice. Which we got after our entree. Our filet mignion was warm almost cold. Wasn’t so good because it took so long to get to us. By the time we got our fried rice we weren’t hungry anymore so we decided to not eat the rice. Seriously the worst experience I have had at any restaurant in my entire life.
Unfortunately this survey does not allow me to explain the real situation we encountered Sunday night. We live in SC so when we come to the west coast to see our kids and grandkids we have a tradition of going to Benihana Newport Beach. It’s always great from the bartenders to the chefs to the servers. We always have a great time except for Sunday night. Drinks were good. Here is downside, chef had weird attitude and burned our entire meal within 15 minutes of starting the meal. Fastest cook time I have ever seen there. Never got our rice. Upside, manager after seeing and hearing my comments adjusted the meal price to more than adequately make us feel welcome to come back again which we will do next time we are in town. Just as an FYI I have been dining at Benihana since the mid 1970’s.
Not a great experince. We went for a joint Birthday celebration. Rushed thru the meal. Waiters came around quickly and started asking everyone if they wanted their food boxed up when not everyone was done earting. Asked to leave immediately following dinner so someone else could have the table. Show was very weak and fast. Food was mediocore. Daughter's chicken was undercooked. Also, quality of the food has gone downhill.
We have been satisfied, regular customers for many years, however have been disappointed the last two times we've dined here. The food was not as well prepared, both by the chef as well as what came out of the kitchen. One chef mentioned that he had moved from the Anaheim location to the Newport location & that he gets paid my how many tables he turns in an evening...perhaps this explains why he short cut on our meal & why the fried rice was under cooked. Additionally, our waiter had a great personality, but was not properly trained in the menu and forgot to bring some requested items.
This time our visit wasn't as great as our other visits! First of all, we had to asked for silverware, usually they bring them to us right away!
Secondly, we asked if they can pack our ginger and mustard sauce with our left overs the waiter said he would give us new ones but he didn't nor did he packed the ones we had leftover!
Thirdly, we make our visits to Benihana's a very special event for very special occasions and we like to keep the memories by the picture they take of us at the end of our meal,
This time they didn't take our picture, nor they offer to do so! We kept waiting for the waiter to come take the picture but he was taking too long and we had to leave without our special memory of this special celebration!
i received "maybe" a tablespoon sized portion of mushroom/onion and literally 4 bites of zucchini. i ordered a 40$ plate and barely got any food at all. i was livid. to top that off, ALL of my seafood was incredibly DRY. Also, i never once was asked if i wanted a refill on my hot tea or my friend's iced tea which were both empty before the chef arrived.
i feel like the food was mediocre and the service was less than desirable. not at all worth the 100$ it took for two of us to eat there.
