Benihana - Newport Beach Ratings and Reviews
First time to this location, made the reservations a couple days in advance, which was a good idea as it was packed with endless amount of customers, busiest Benihana I have been to. Service was good, food was great tasting. The Chef had to be new, as he was not creative as the others around us and he kept it simple, somewhat disappointing for a dinner chef.
I will go back, as it is one of my favorite places to eat
I love eating at Benihana and have only been at this location. The service was great, chef was entertaining and they tended to us very well. My only dissatisfaction is that we ordered the 6 course meals and we didn't get our hibachi shrimp that was supposed to come with it. I was just disappointed I didn't get the full amount of food for the price I paid. Besides that everything was a good experience. I just hope that doesn't happen again when I go again.
I gave mostly 4 or 5 stars on everything but my overall rating is ONE star. it's due to the frustration dealing w/ them on gift cards. Tried to use a couple of g/c @ my b-day dinner. the cashier's said she couldn't get any balance out of it and gave me an e-mail to contact.
I first called the # on the back and it's no longer a valid #.
2nd, i wrote to the email that was provided and was asked to send over g/c image - front and back. i did and followed up w/ a Josh a few days later and was told nothing went through. I re-sent, checked w/ him again, and again it was like "nothing went through". this is after verifying my email "sent box" that does show the email w/ g/c images I sent. I did this THREE times w/ Josh and gave up.
3rd, I went to Benihana's website and emailed them. a Mike replied - asking me to send over similar info. I did follow his instructions and guess what, he's again telling me the images didn't go through. I tried TWO times w/ him and no success.
This is a very frustrating process. I've both purchased and received gift cards from various vendors and none was so diff to perform simple functions like balance or transaction history look up. I called the Benihana I ate at and they couldn't look up transaction history and simply referred me back to the same email for any inquiries.
So me, the customer got stuck w/ these bad cards. The restaurant and their corp office kept on kicking the ball back and forth and no one tried to help fix the problem.
I usually buy their gift cards ~around Christmas time to give out to diff people and this year I stopped due to this incidence.
Whoever is reading this review, any suggestion is welcome!
Place was really dirty egg shells and food on floor .Service was slow and incompetent, brought wrong drinks from different table and took forever. I ordered oceans dish scallops , shrimp and lobster $39. Lobster was under cooked and scallops had sand in them. 3 people check came to $200 plus tip!
Would never go here again!
Habschi steak house in Anaheim hills puts this place to shame! 1/2 the money
Rushed experience. The Chef was amazing! But our server was terrible! Didn’t even offer us a fork! Forced us to use chopsticks just because we were Asian?!? On top of that one of our brown rice bowls had hair in it! No bag offered to go, no sauces to go. Just a horrible experience. Not going to go here anymore. During the middle of our meal he brought boxes before we even had 5 bites in...Wanted to kick us out every chance he got. Ice cream was pretty bad as well. Why offer a time available at 9:45 if you are going to treat your customers like this? Cut off at 6 or 7 if you are going to rush us like this. We had to constantly ask for items the server forgot...
As always, the food is amazing! Best place to go for dinner for our family and on date nights. It is a little loud, and not like most of the time- the service wasn't great this time. They were pretty busy and our waitress didn't fill our drinks or clear our plates as much as usual. Overall great food and our chef was amazing!
We went for my husband's birthday with our kids and parents. Our server (Alex) and chef (Chris) were excellent. Very personable and lively. Made out experience very fun! Kids loved it and we enjoyed watching them experience Benihana for the first time. Food was excellent as well. I had Benihana Delight which is filet mignon and jumbo prawns and the filet was cooked perfectly. So flavorful. They were also very celebratory and gracious of my husband's special occasion. We had a great evening.
Been to many Benihana’s around North America. New York, Las Vegas...upbeat ambience, friendly, talkative diners, a true communal experience. It’s odd...this is our “home” Benihana and people just aren’t friendly! No one talks with their table mates. Maybe it’s because no one is a tourist, like at the two locations above, or in San Diego, Orlando.
We chose to dine here because our grandchildren were visiting from Portland Oregon and truly enjoy the food and experience every time. It was convenient to the John Wayne Airport and they were flying out after dinner. After three days at Disneyland, it turned out to be a fun send off experience!!!!
I had a $30 off ($30 off when you buy 1 regular meal) certificate for my Birthday.
I took my friend and used $30 certificate and split the overage. We each had "Treasure of the Sea" from Teppan Menu. It was excellent. We come here for our birthdays every year.
The ambiance was nice, I went to celebrate my birthday. The down side was that the server was not very attentive. We ordered a kids meal and they did not get the rice, when I asked about it the cook said it is only available if you request it. When on the menu it said the kids meal came with rice.
I always enjoy an evening at Benihana's even though it isn't the highest quality food in the world. Prices are fairly stiff for what you get. The ordinary steak dinner isn't super tender but isn't tough either. Most of the teppan we got this time was overdone - the chef just didn't do things very quickly and the food spent extra time on the grill. items on the online menu were conspicuously missing from the one we ordered from (e.g., Garden Vegetables). The wording on the birthday discount certificate was so complex (purchase one teppan get $30 additional items) that when I asked the server which items qualified as the first teppan item) he looked at me blankly and reinterpreted the deal to mean "order two teppan items get $30 off". So we both had teppan instead of one teppan and sushi as originally planned.
We shared a table with another group, the cooked started serving their group first. By the time he came around our group we were limited to the amount of veggies . When we asked why we were served so little compared to the other group he stated it was only a certain amount per person. Ok? we all should be served the same amount right? He pretty much ignored us. We spoke to the manager and all they can do was give ya a free appetizer coupon for next Time. I won’t be coming here next time!
This restaurant usually gets a much higher score from me, but something happened this time. My reservation was at 12:15 pm. As I talked into the restaurant at 12:19 pm, I got an email notification of my reservation canceled by the restaurant. I asked the receptionist, who said I was too late for my reservation. She further explained that the restaurant cancels reservation when customers are late for more than 15 minutes, and I replied I was 4 minutes late, and I didn't understand why this was happening?? Then she asked me not to worry, and said they would get me a table as soon as possible, but then made us wait for 15 minutes before seating us, after all other walk in customers who came after us already got seated. I asked her if she was going to reinstate or honor my OpenTable reservation for the credit, she didn't seem to want to help and simply told me to contact OpenTable. Fortunately OpenTable gave me back my points after I emailed them of this incident.
Celebrated a couple of birthdays so we used the Chef's Table coupon. Great value and recommend everyone sign up. The chef wasn't as entertaining as others...seemed new? Also goofed a little on our order even though he followed procedure and verified everyone's order before starting. He was nice though. Server was great. We were seated quickly and got our drinks, appetizers and dessert in a timely fashion.
