Benihana - Newport Beach
Benihana is always a delightful place to visit for special occasions. I just went for my birthday. I suppose one of the qualities of getting older is that the little show they put on becomes less and less entertaining.
However, that is not what I go there for. I go to enjoy fillet mignon and lobster, and at the end of the day, it was very very good. Because the restaurant serves Teppan-Yaki, the food hits your plate literally just seconds after it is cooked on the open grill.
I enjoy this location, and when you join the chef‘s table, you get a $30 certificate you can use around the time of your birthday. Note: you do need to purchase one adult entrée at regular price before you can use your certificate.
All in all, it is a great way to celebrate my birthday or any special occasion.
Birthday celebration was great!
Love the food and the experience, so fun! My family loved it and it was our first time there
Wonderful food and dining experience as always! It was a bit loud this time though. Made it hard to hear the chef.
First time for some of the family members. It was a great experience. The food was delicious.
Birthday! Great food and entertaining!!
The food was great, as always. The service was stellar and especially accommodating to a party of six which included three toddlers.
Jose was our chef, had him before and he was great!
Went to celebrate my birthday and had the best time! Great staff and chef! Only down side was the bar tender was in a terrible mood but everything else overshadowed her negativity.
It was a great experience! will definitely go back
Great atmosphere and excellent food for having college kids home for Spring Break
Always a good time and the more the merrier. Our chef had skills and kept us entertained all while making our food right in front of us. Thanks!! :)
Food was delicious,.. and great service. Definitely going soon!!! 😊
I had a boat
The food was good but cold
Service was fine
But I like my food warm and the boats come out too early
We finished eating way before the teppan was done
Great as usual!
Went there in a Thursday night and it was busy! We were seated right away. Our chef Oscar was hilarious and accommodated my gluten free diet. I bought the souvenir dragon mug. It’s adorable! Celebrated my daughter’s birthday and the waiters sang for us! I had the Benihana trio and it was delicious!
What an incredible experience! Our chef delivered and my grandchildren were truly amazed, especially with the onion made smoking locomotive choo choo train he constructed. Food was delicious, service was excellent. Can’t wait to go back! Thank you!
Came here for my bday . Andy was our chef .
Thank you so much for a memorable bday .
Awesome service !
Love that place i go there at least three times a year on each of my family's Birthday.
Our server was Katlyn and she was great!! She made it fun for our three-year-old grandson who was there for the first time.
It was great. The employees were friendly and entertaining. Thanks!!!
It’s was excellent
Always a fun time!! Great for birthday party celebrations. Good food. Chefs are always fun!
As usual the food preparation was great, but the service by the server was did not meet the service I have received in the past. The server was at points very rude and short with everyone seated at our table. We all attributed it to being the responsible for several tables during our time. Nevertheless it is never acceptable to take your working conditions out on the customers you are serving.
We celebrated another birthday! Fun!
We had a great time at my early birthday celebration. Waiter was very attentive and thoughtful. We didn't have to wait for anything. He's good!
We thoroughly enjoyed our Benihana experience. Thank you all!
We had a reservation at 7:15 and we still had wait 45 min .
We have been to benihana several times. The portion size of the meal THIS TIME was very small. The soup was served cold. The server took it back and brought new soup that was also cold. We asked for no mushrooms but they would not give more veggie as a substitute. For $35+ per plate you would think a little extra veggie to replace mushrooms would be okay. We were celebrating a bday but not using a free bday coupon or anything like that. However it seemed like the chef was short on quantity of food and we did not have leftovers like we always do in the past.
Chicken and steak very dry and no flavor . The rice vegetables and shrimp were good but the other food was terrible
Our chef Josue was awesome. He was funny and efficient. Our server was also good
This was a horrible experience. We didn’t get cold soup until an hour after sitting down. It was like herding cattle sitting down and getting a server to pay attention to us. I was sorely disappointed and will never return. Whole night ruined by this headache of an experience
It’s been about 6 years since I’ve been to Benihana and it will be another 6 or more. We had a 7 pm reservation. We called and said we would be there at 7:15 and they said that was fine they hold them for 15 minutes. Arrived at 7:05 and checked in at 7:10 (due to parking). It was a busy night and we were told that they just started seating the 6:45 reservations at 7:10 so they were running behind and it would be 20 minutes. Fine. At 7:40 they said we were next, at 8 pm they informed me that they seated the 7:15 reservation group ahead of us because we were late checking in. I explained that isn’t what was told to us when we checked in. Wouldn’t have been upset if they were just upfront about setting expectations in the first place.
Parties that were losing their sh*t seemed to be getting seated and I didn’t want to go to that level. The seemed GM stressed and clueless on customer experience. I guess I shouldn’t have expected more from a Benihana.
Everything else was fine except our chef was sick so my husband kept obsessing each time he sneezed into his arm or wiped his face on his sleeve. I tried to ignore it. Food was typical Benihana style otherwise. We didn’t end up getting out of there until 10 pm. There are other Teppanyaki style restaurants in OC that I feel have better service and communication to customers and would suggest looking elsewhere.
Reservations are highly recommended. The walk in wait time was 2 hours. Food was good, service was good. All around good experience
Half birthday celebration !
We had a 1-hour wait with a reservation. We witnessed a party who had a later reservations than hours be seated before us because they complained a lot.
There's always a wait, even with reservations but it is understandable as an entire table has to clear in order for the next party to be sat and no one should feel rushed. The chefs are always entertaining and servers attentive. The front desk and hostesses are ok. We had reservations but opted to sit in the bar area instead. The server was great and we got our drinks and food promptly. We had a nice time.
Waited too long. 35 minutes passed my appointment
I would recommend to a friend only for lunch during the week day when it isn't as crowded and super loud with all the people waiting in the lobby.
Our waiter was too busy trying to store containers in the walk in fridge and prepping for the evening. We had to ask the hostess to get him a couple of times so we could place our order. Our chicken fried rice was minus the chicken and the rice was mushy. The waiting area is way too small for this restaurant. It was a safety hazard with everyone blocking the entrance. NO JOKE!
We had a 7:15 reservation and did not get seated until 7:50. The seating staff did not seem to care. Won’t go back there again!
