Benihana - New York Ratings and Reviews
food quality good.
the chef at the table pretended to be japanese but is not. probably from other india/pakistan/sri lanka origin.
very bad smell your clothes at the end of the dinner. should work on the air vents on top.
not the same benihana as was in the past at the other location. shame.
but food was good.
Apparently having a reservation here means nothing. Turned up to a 9pm reservation and was told we wouldn’t be seated until 1045pm at the earliest. I requested to speak to a manager and waited for 25 minutes while no one came to speak with me. All staff had attitude and a superiority complex.
I had made reservations for my boyfriends birthday and wasn’t seated until a hour and fifthteen minutes after the reservation time! They asked what kind of rice did we want, my boyfriend said white and I said fried. The cook started cooking and was very confused about everyone’s order. He kept placing the wrong items on people’s plate. My boyfriend didn’t get his white rice until the cook was finished cooking, he didn’t even notice! The cook also fried the rice and gave everyone there’s except for me, I told him I was supposed to have fried rice and the waiter then came over to debate with me about what kind of rice I ordered! No one tried to accommodate me so I didn’t eat the meal. The birthday singing celebration that you all do for birthdays didn’t happen and his birthday dinner was ruined!!!!! This was our first time coming to Benihana and it was horrible! I do not plan on returning or referring anyone.
This was my worst Benihanas experience ever. I had a reservation for 10pm and wasnt seated unitl 11pm. I had to stand in the front of everyone coming because I was with my daughter and I wasnt going to sit and wait at the bar area. People were coming in cramped on top of one another because no one was seated for reservation time. I was just standing for an hour listening to people complain about what time their reservations were scheduled. I finally got seated. It was the worst experience ever. The food is always good but dont know if its worth the wait and whatever happens between wait and actually being seated.
I went to Benihana in London many years ago and had a great meal with entertainment. I thought I’d take my kids for my sons birthday. Worst sushi I have ever had in my life. Also, despite having booked it was a one hour wait before we even ordered. Chef was okay, but clearly a low paid worker who learnt to do the show out the back. My local hibachi grill does it with more passion, better food and half the price. Will never go back.
The Chef we had Pedro , really made the experience wonderful. He was somehow able to amaze my step son (who isn’t easily impressed) , my sister-in-law finished all of her food first (she is not a big eater) and give us all a great memory. You’ve made my fiancé’s birthday one she’ll definitely remember and you’ve earned me some brownie points. Thank you for being such gracious host and we will definitely return !
This is not the first time i had with benihanas but i still chanced it & gave you'll another try. I just dont understand the point of making a reservation for this place, i made a 6pm reservation & wasnt seated until 7pm. It would have been nice if they had a nice size area for WAITING & with HEAT for the winter since it was 16°, to make matters worse i was seated on the same floor (with NO HEAT) as check-in/waiting area/& area where their were complaining customers about the time they have been waiting ; but Ramon (the chef) & the waiter made it a little better with their jokes & good food. For the price of this benihana visit i expected better, at least a HEATED area AWAY from people standing around me while im eating that was waiting to be seated, i am VERY UNSATISFIED
My fisrt time in ny was 10 years ago. A good friend recommend your restaurant, everything was amazing... now I came with my wife to your place to surprise her but the surprise was for me...... where are this Chinese chef with the unbelievable show???? And the food? Now the chef are from cheap hand workers no show no good food..... what a pity....
After reading other reviews I was nervous, but we went for New Year’s Eve were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was packed and yet we were seated at an appropriate time. Any waiting time was very minimal. This is the restaurant where you have to wait for everyone from your assigned table to arrive, so there is some waiting but there is a bar and windows to look out at the street and people watch. The service was fast yet timely and the food tasted amazing
I have eaten at several beninhanas this was just ok. The food quality was mediocre. The dipping sauces had absolutely no flavor very dull. The waiter was absolutely horrible attending to us. The chef who was cooking our meal had to step to the back to get him for us. Was not pleased with this Benihana at all. Food was not worth the prices that they charged.
The place is too loud and to be honest the service wasn't very good either. I guess at the end of the day it's a Benihanna and you know what you are getting into, the thing is that the prices are way too high to recieve a bad service, even from a Benihanna restaurant.
