Even with reservations it was a wait but IT was worth It the food was great and good pricing.
I recommend this place for special occasion with your girlfriend/boyfriend or friends. You can have a really good time together while the chef is performing the show.
We waited for 2 hours and still never got our table so we left ... awful service
Have spent 40 birthdays at Benihana. This place Rocks! Our chef Manny was great. He made the night fun for the whole group around the hibachi.
Everything about it was amazing making me feel like as if I was in Japan myself. Everything from the food to the show made it an outstanding place, which people should visit by the way and though it may be a little bit pricey if you bring a large number of people I can vow that every cent that you pay will be worthwhile.
Seating time was over an out despite having reservations. Waitress spilt the drinks and free charge was not offered for the mishap caused by the waitress.
Went to the first Benihani's in the 1960's and nearly 60 years later was very impressed. Food was great, table mates interesting (they shared a birthday cake with us). Price was 25% less than what we expected. Advanced reservations a must as wait was 90 minutes. Open Table slick!
The part that we had to wait 35 minutes more after showing up on time, made the experience not so great
Food was solid and prep was super entertaining. Great for a family or group on a special occasion. The hostess area, however, is a disaster. We waited 30 mins past our reservation time for our table. The hostess did not seem competent, nor would she give an estimate on waiting time, instead saying "I don't know." That is not acceptable given that we live in an age of technology.
We were seated an hour and a half later than our reservation. However we loved our server and chef.
Very important occasion with people from all different cities here visiting me. Reservation made in advance. On arrival, we were told they were behind an hour past my reservation time. I have never had this happen in any rest in NYC. Due to time constraints and it being Sat night we left to go elsewhere.
Personally, I wouldn’t go back just for that. It’s on them for overbooking and poorly managing tables. Food was good when I ate there many times in the past but theirs too many places to even think of returning after that let down.
Good dining experience except for the long wait. We had 9pm reservation but we were seated after 10pm. The long wait kind of took away from a great dinning.
Our primary experience was that we never got to eat at the restaurant. We arrived on time for our 5:30pm reservation. The hostess confirmed our reservation and asked us to wait. The waiting area was loud and chaotic with many people waiting for passing reservations. Went up twice to ask about status and was told they were still waiting for people to leave tables. Finally, after waiting 35 minutes, we had to walk out to be sure to make a show. All on my wife's birthday.
First, try to stay away from weekends. Second, leave lots of extra time for other commitments, since their reservations are a mere "indication". We've been going to Benihana for over 40 years. Since we were there last, it has become much more touristy.
Lastly, there are several restaurants across the street if you have to leave. My wife had to settle for a Chinese restaurant across the street that - luckily - was surprisingly good. Benihana was once an enjoyable restaurant.
we came for a show he didnt give us.
Unfortunately since I was sitting at the end of the table, each time the cook served the food (starting the opposite side of the table), I would end up getting less portion by.the.time it reached me..was not happy with that.
My reservation was for 10 pm and I arrived on time. I didn’t get seated until after 11. By 11:38 pm the cook still hadn’t come out to prepare our food in front of us. The food was kind of bland and needed some more seasoning.
We had a 9:45p reservation and they had yet to seat 8p reservations when we arrived at 9:30p. We waited until about 11p and then gave up. Can't rate the food since we never got a chance to eat. Reservations clearly aren't their strong suit.
The wait time was lengthy and it was so crowded. When we sat down, the server was very nice. She made sure we was taking care of. However, the chef was bland. He was not entertaining like other chef's near us. I guess he was tired LOL. But, I will go back soon. The food was good!
I had a great time once I was seated at Benihana however they were behind on reservations so even thought my reservation was for 6:15 I was not seated till an hour later. This could be improved for a better experience.
We had a 6 pm reservation and were seated at 7:30. Chaos all around as everyone else had the same problem. I understand from speaking with the staff (who were frustrated by having to deal with so many angry people) that this overbooking happens every weekend. Our 7-year-old granddaughter fell asleep at dinner because it was so late. We were there for her birthday.
This is terrible management and very intentional overbooking. They should not take reservations if they don’t even pretend to honor them.
The staff does their best and the food is good (albeit with a lot of MSG).
Noisy noisy noisy.. babies and loud office parties made this pla e a headache. Never again
Love this place
Today we were seated and we were very cold. Not just my daughter and me. The whole table was feeling the cold. We told our waiter, the manager, we offered to change tables and nothing happened. We ate in a very cold room. We couldn’t enjoy our meal as we should have. Other than that, the rest was great. We got the best chef Romeo and the food was fantastic. It’s a pity that we had to go through our meal uncomfortable.
Awful hospitality. Arrived 6:55 for 7:00 reservation. Was told it would be 7:30. Manager offered to give us drinks for the wait. We ordered drinks and then he claimed he only said beer or wine so we had to pay for half of them. Seated at 7:55, no apologies, and the host actually yelled at us multiple times when we asked for a status update saying “this is how it is here. What do you want from me?”
Would never come back here, ever
I suggested this place to my boyfriend for our one year anniversary since I have visited this location before. We were seated with a great group of people including one birthday. The chef, Richard, was great. We had an amazing time definitely looking forward to the next visit.
Wait time is acceptable. Service is good. Food is great. There has been a mistake in the billing but it was rectified.
They did not honor our reservation. We waited for 30 minutes with two very young kids and eventually had to walk out and eat at the restaurant across the street. Worst service I've ever had.
We had our OpenTable reservation and were sat 30 minutes after the reservation time. Host made no effort to check in with us or update us. I had to ask status more than once (over the 30 minute additional wait period).
Waiter and chef service was great, food was good. However, I cannot recommend given the excessively long wait time (it did not feel as though we made a reservation). This was the worst OpenTable experience we have had.
Great evening my family and I enjoyed it planning on returning real soon THANKS
The service was awful. We didn’t get seated until 45 minutes after our reservation. Our waiter disappeared for 90 minutes so we couldn’t put in our order for drinks and the hibachi chef was less impressive. Overall, I was very disappointed with my first experience at Benihana and will not be going back. There are better hibachi spots in Nyc that are cheaper and more enjoyable.
They overbooked, and as a result our 730p reservation did not even matter. We waited an hour until seated. There were kids screaming and the staff made no attempt to ask the parents to quiet them down. Our server rushed us to no end, don't even think about asking for a refill of a drink. He made it clear, drink orders and food would be taken at the same time. When he brought out the courses, he handed them to one person and instructed them to pass it around. When I asked for water, he got upset and said 'why didn't you ask for that when you sat down?' I haven't been here in years, but if THIS is how they run their show now, i'll forever say NOT THANK YOU
We waited in the NOISY , crowded space for over one hour WITH a reservation! Benihana has been “renovated “. What was once a cozy , yummy place with ambience is now a clinical ugly food mill with horrible lighting, terrible service (or lack of) and chemical ridden food which made us all ill . Luckily they have reduced the portion size radically ! The entire table even had to send their drinks back. I have been going to Benihana’s around the country from their infancy. Since Rocky Aoki passed away it’s been downhill . This was the worst! Never again!
If you like waiting for 40 minutes when you have a reservation, then Benihana NYC is for you. Otherwise, I would avoid like the plague.
The wait was extremely long even though I had a reservation. Dont think I will be returning.
We had to wait an hour and a half past our reservation. Once seated, it took over 30 minutes for a chef to come over to our table. They forgot our appetizers, and we had to ask for drinks multiple times.
It was extremely crowded and noisy.
Would not go back.
Reservation made (one week prior) for 8pm, but didn't get to sit down until 9.40pm. clearly had taken too many bookings, including walk-ups on the night. The local restaurant manager (who was a newbie) was trying his best to deal with the situation he found himself in an impossible position. Food was good when we eventually got some.
Our experience was TERRIBLE
our reservation was for 630pm and we weren’t seated until 815pm. The food was mediocre. They brought us the check and it was incorrect. They fixed the bill and we paid with a card but left a cash tip (because we figured a server might prefer to have their money in cash). The server came back to us and told us that the “tip was not included in the bill amount” as if we didn’t tip them.
We will NEVER patronize another Benihana again. In fact, I’ll do my due diligence and find out what parent company owns them and be sure not to spend a dime with any of their establishments.
Thanks for an eye opening experience.
1st time fist, thoroughly enjoyed & will recommend for another fun get together.
We arrived for my partners birthday and was the entrance was filled with people waiting we then got told our booked table would be ready shortly so we sat at the bar, after waiting for 30 minutes and seeing no one being seated the noise got overbearing so we walked out without eating!
Poor service, and organisation
We made a reservation but were seated 50 minutes later, enough said for service. It happened last time we went to this location, we will not go back. On top of that, the food was extremely blend, and the chef seemed to think every Asian person was Japanese(or knows Japanese), which was quite annoying.
