Benihana - Minneapolis Ratings and Reviews
We finally were sat 45 minutes after our reservation and then had a less than attentive waitress. One of our guests had their meal prepared in the back due to a food allergy, but their food didn't come out until we all had been served our full meal! Our chef kept looking for our waitress and eventually left our table to go find her. 5 stars for our chef!
Food was ok. Our chef was not very entertaining. Brought 3 kids for their first time and he didn’t do any of the tricks other tables were getting. Didn’t juggle his utinsels or toss food. Was disappointed in that. For the first time ever at Benihana, I had a hard fatty piece on my chicken and the fried rice was fried too long and eggs were over cooked and everything was stuck together.
They really need to update their bathrooms at this location. There are only two stalls in the woman's and they are disgusting. Also, they crammed us into a table with a highchair which obviously did not fit all of us and therefore basically were eating our meals in our laps.
While Benihana has good food, I think they are way overpriced. I've been to other Hibachi restaurants for the same food, but much less money. Our chef had only been cooking for a month and you could tell. He made each item individually, so you never had your whole meal on your plate at the same time. This made the dining time way too long. I will only go there if friends really want to go, otherwise I will go to cheaper Hibachi restaurants that don't take as long.
Benihana in Golden Valley (Minneapolis) has become our annual birthday supper location. Our son (age 6) is a very picky eater and he loves hibachi chicken and shrimp and loves even more to watch it being prepared. It's a drive for us (over an hour) but it's well worth the trip. The wait staff and hibachi chefs are the best.
My friends and I usually come to this Benihana location 4-5 times a year for each others birthdays. We never leave disappointed by the amount of food and quality of food we receive. However, as a late the service has been terrible. This last time, we went on Tuesday night which was not busy at all. It took 10-15 minutes for the waitress to come to our table, and once we ordered, it took another 10-15 minutes for us to receive our drinks (which were 5 waters). We actually received our soup and salad prior to getting our waters. Once the chef came, the waitress did not come back 1 time to check on us. We eventually had to ask him to flag down the waitress so we could get refill. Unfortunately, a similar scenario has occurred the last 3 times we have been here. Moving forward we will either attend a different Benihana or go to a different restaurant all together.
We have been going here for birthdays, 3 times a year for 15 years and it is getting progressively more disappointing. Sometimes they do not acknowledge your birthday, or forget to take a picture, more than often our chef is not in a good mood and performance is just routine. The last time , our steak was overcooked and no diavelo sauce was added even tho asked for twice. So this may the end of an era for us. Especially for the money it costs, it is just not so fun anymore and never know what service you will get. Sorry and thank you.
We were very disappointed with this particular visit to Benihana and don't anticipate going back. The shrimp was delicious but the chicken was nondescript. The chef did the typical hibachi chef act which was entertaining as always, but given the entree price, it just wasn't worth it.
We are frequent Benihana visitors - typically for birthday dinners. This was the first time that we were not seated promptly. I had to go check in with the host to see what was going on and then he immediately seated us - not sure if we were forgotten?? I had the buzzer in possession, it just never went off. Once we were seated, our party of four was lined up on the long side of the table with two parties of two on each end. This made talking to each other very difficult. Our server brought drinks, soup and salad in rapid succession and then we waited.....and waited.....and waited for a chef to arrive. I'm not sure if the late seating caused the issue or if someone called in sick, but there was a half hour span from finishing salads to the start of the chef cooking. We did receive a small discount from the manager who recognized the extended wait. In future, I will ask the host to seat us around the corner so that we can converse - I feel that he should have directed the seating, but he did not. Have always loved Benihana and hope this was an isolated incident.
As always, the food was excellent, the chef was entertaining and experienced and the servers were very pleasant and attentive. We had two children with us and the staff made a special point to be sure they were taken care of. I have recommended your restaurant and will definitely recommend it in the future. Thanks for a very enjoyable Holiday lunch for our office staff and family.
My boyfriend and I usually come to Benihana once a month for celebrations. Most of our experiences have been great, and are what keep us coming back. However, our most recent visit was absolutely awful. We had an 8:30pm reservation, and were not seated for at least 25 minutes. Once we were finally seated, we quickly noticed it was terribly cold at our table, as if a draft was coming from the vent or something. Given its winter in Minnesota, we had to put our winter jackets back on. By 9:15 we still had not seen our server (45 minutes past our reservation time) so I walked up to the bar to order us drinks. While we sat in the cold waiting for our drinks and server to arrive, we noticed that the sauce dishes sitting at our table were dirty with something crusted on them (these ended up being the dishes we were served out of). In addition, there were food remnants scattered on the table from the prior meal served there, which was particularly concerning to me as someone with a shellfish allergy. When our server finally arrived with glasses of water, my boyfriend noticed there was something floating in his. Around 9:35 we still had not seen our chef, I got up to use the restroom and, after washing my hands, found there was nothing to dry my hands with in the bathroom. Our chef finally arrived at our table at 9:52, nearly an hour and a half after our reservation time! While our server was less than professional, our chef was professional and courteous, though it was clear he was physically exhausted from the night, he did his best to make our meal enjoyable. At that point, unfortunately, we were unable to enjoy the experience, given it was 10pm, we just wanted to eat something and get home. Such a disappointing Benihana experience... we will be very seriously hesitant to return in the future after this experience.
Horrible. The server (who on the receipt was named Goody) was slow, too quiet when talking and forgetful. And when we had a problem with our bill the manager seem to care and didn't fix anything. Never returning to ANY Benihana's ever again. Period. Been going the last five years and slowly the service and food have been getting worse (not to mention more expensive for what you get). Save your money and use it for one of the many other places in the Twin Cities metro, which are far more worth it.
This location has gone down hill over the years. It used to be our family’s “go to” for every birthday dinner. I’m not sure we will be returning. We went for my birthday on a Tuesday evening. I chose a 6:30pm reservation because I have a 5 year old with school in the morning. We did not get done until 9:15pm. The chef didn’t come to our table until around 7:45pm. Someone asked the server if a Chef called in sick or something because of how long it was taking. The server was very nice but the service was not good. My son’s order was not correct. We were not checked on throughout the meal- to the point where others at the table had to ask the Chef to ask our server for more drinks. Even after that we still were not offered refills. Everything was very slow even though it wasn’t particularly busy. My sister and my son’s meals both came with ice cream but they were not offered or asked what kind they would like. The restaurant and bathroom were both very messy. Paper scraps and garbage sitting out on tables and floors. Disappointing experience for the amount of money we spent.
