Benihana - Minneapolis Ratings and Reviews
Horrible. The server (who on the receipt was named Goody) was slow, too quiet when talking and forgetful. And when we had a problem with our bill the manager seem to care and didn't fix anything. Never returning to ANY Benihana's ever again. Period. Been going the last five years and slowly the service and food have been getting worse (not to mention more expensive for what you get). Save your money and use it for one of the many other places in the Twin Cities metro, which are far more worth it.
This location has gone down hill over the years. It used to be our family’s “go to” for every birthday dinner. I’m not sure we will be returning. We went for my birthday on a Tuesday evening. I chose a 6:30pm reservation because I have a 5 year old with school in the morning. We did not get done until 9:15pm. The chef didn’t come to our table until around 7:45pm. Someone asked the server if a Chef called in sick or something because of how long it was taking. The server was very nice but the service was not good. My son’s order was not correct. We were not checked on throughout the meal- to the point where others at the table had to ask the Chef to ask our server for more drinks. Even after that we still were not offered refills. Everything was very slow even though it wasn’t particularly busy. My sister and my son’s meals both came with ice cream but they were not offered or asked what kind they would like. The restaurant and bathroom were both very messy. Paper scraps and garbage sitting out on tables and floors. Disappointing experience for the amount of money we spent.
After calling the restaurant to ask if they would be open on Thanksgiving and was told they would be I went on line and booked the reservation for our party of 6. They left a voice message for me on Nov. 15th to let me know they would be closed and would not be able to honor my reservation. I then started calling around and was unable to book reservations at any of the restaurants that I called because they were all already fully booked. We finally decided to go to a buffet for our Thanksgiving dinner and ended up having to wait for 3 hours to be seated. This was very frustrating for us because this was caused by not being called in time to find another restaurant. When I called Benihana’s to enquirer why they waited so long to call me about being closed and why I was able to even book the reservation if they were going to be closed speaking to Kim she was very rude saying “we can’t just open the restaurant to serve you” and we don’t have anyone with strong accents that answer the phones...which someone with a strong accent answered the phone at the time I called to speak to her about the reservation being canceled. She ended up sending me a $20 coupon for an entree which I feel should have been offered to all 6 people in our party because it put all of us out for our Thanksgiving dinner.
I will not recommend Benihana’s to anyone going forward and will discourage them from going if I hear they are thinking about it by telling them my experience.
This outcome would have been totally different if I had not called ahead of time and asked if they would be open and told they would be. I would have hung up and found somewhere that was open in plenty of time before Thanksgiving.
It takes way to long for the cook to come out and start cooking.
We were seated (later than reservation), server left, came back and took our drink orders, 10 mins later our water came out, she left, 5 mins later, she took our food order, 10 mins later our complimentary dinner soup came, in another 10 mins the complementary salad came, and another 10 mins the cook came to begin cooking. Another 30 mins. The food was mediocre. It was much faster and better tasting at Mall of America. They get you in and out!
I normally would recommend your restaurant but not after this visit. Our chef was terrible and did things that shocked me. He got confused with order and when he handed out rice, my son flipped his rice over now onto his plate (note: he had been eating off his plate already). The chef decided something was wrong and actually took his rice off his plate and gave to someone else. That shocked me. Then a young girl had hair in her food. Instead of apologizing and quietly removing her plate to get another one, he first took her plate and pull out long piece of hair right over the grill and stuck it in the face of her parents just to say it wasn’t his. Completely unprofessional! I was embarrassed for my son who’s food was taken away, for the young girl and for my daughter since it was her birthday.
We always go for special occasions because my 5 year old loves it, but first really awful experience here. Slow food and service and absolutely no show from our cook. Manager was kind and did took some off the bill but I'm still leaving incredibly disappointed.
Have been here many times but recently the overall service and cleanliness is lacking. Chef and food was good, service was poor. Resteraunt itself was dirty, bathrooms were about what you see in a run down place, tables were barely wiped down, staff standing around, 2.5 hour meal. Beyond disappointed for a $100 meal for two! Go to mall of America, much cleaner and better service!
Had reservations and arrived on time. Was told they were running 15 minutes behind. Went to the bar to wait. Tried to order a drink but was ignored. Went to use the bathroom and both stalls were out of tiolet paper. After waiting for a table for 45 minutes left and went to Avenida. (which was very good) As we were leaving Benihana's there was several people smoking marijuana right outside the door. Will never go back. Wanted to give zero stars but there is no option to do so.
We had a 6pm reservation. Received our soup fairly quickly after our drink order. Salad came out next then just over an hour later the chef finally arrived. My group had reservations at 7:45 for our next destination with a non refundable deposit. We had to rush the chef to cook our food and closed out our checks as we were shoveling food in our mouths. Needless to say we were a half hour late for the our final stop. Did not get a refund costing me $355. The worst birthday I have ever had. There is always next year I guess
